Chapter 263
Chapter 263
Gaia felt quite helpless.
Her grandson had been smart his whole life, so why was he being foolish now?
If Celeste was really that great, she wouldn't have left without a word when he had the car accident.
In her view, Celeste's failure to return now meant one of two things: either she had already married and had children with some other rich man, or she felt too ashamed to come back.
If it was the second reason, at least it showed she had some humanity. But what if it was the first?
Gaia glanced at her grandson, collected her thoughts, and asked him calmly, "Setting aside having children, what do you think of Lila as a person?"
Alexander's expression remained neutral as he considered the question about what Lila was like.
What was she like?
It had been barely a month, so he couldn't say he knew her particularly well, but from their time together, he'd found she wasn't as annoying as he'd imagined, or even as money-hungry as he'd thought.
"Does one question require that much thought?" Gaia asked, seeing him lost in contemplation.
Alexander snapped back to attention but said nothing.
Gaia continued, "Don't tell me you've discovered so many good qualities in Lila that you don't know where to start?"
A slight, indifferent smile curved his lips as he said slowly, "Good qualities? I haven't found that many. I can only say I don't dislike her, and living under the same roof with her isn't as unbearable as I imagined."
Gaia chuckled softly, "You make it sound so reluctant, but what you're really saying is that you've developed feelings for Lila, isn't it?"
Alexander seemed unwilling to admit it. "What feelings? Did I say that?"
Gaia looked at him knowingly. "Grandson, you've always been a very picky person. You should know that about yourself, right?"
Alexander was dismissive. "Am I picky?"
Gaia glared at him. "Do you really need to ask?"
Then she continued, "For someone as picky as you, not disliking someone is the beginning of liking them. What's more, you were so resistant to Lila at first, yet in just one month your opinion of her has changed so much. What does that tell you?"
Alexander said flatly, "What?"
"It means you accept Lila as a person."
"Is that so?"
Gaia let out a long sigh. "Yes! I've lived most of my life, what can't I see through? I knew all along I wasn't wrong—Lila is the most suitable person in the world for you."
Alexander twitched his lips, making no comment on Gaia's words.
In the courtyard of the Sinclair Family Manor.
After Arabella pulled Lila out the door, Lila withdrew her arm from Arabella's grasp. "Miss Sinclair, we're not that close, are we? You're being too friendly."
Arabella looked at her with a half-smile. "Sister-in-law, you've married my brother, so why are you still calling me Miss Sinclair? So formal. Is it because you think my brother doesn't like you and prefers Celeste, that you'll divorce sooner or later, so you're keeping your distance from me too?"
Lila stared at Arabella for a moment.
From the beginning, she had felt that Arabella didn't seem to like her much. Then yesterday when she went to Alexander's office and asked those questions, and now today, constantly bringing up Celeste and divorce.
She could now be certain that Arabella's pretense of being friendly had no good intentions behind it.
After sizing up the situation, Lila smiled at her. "I call you Miss Sinclair because we really aren't close, and I don't think my husband and I will definitely divorce. As for your Celeste—"
She paused, then raised her eyebrows and asked back, "So what if she comes back? At least right now, I'm Alexander's legal wife."
