Chapter 62
Lila knew perfectly well that dressed like this, she couldn't just walk over and talk to Alexander.
She immediately retreated to the bathroom, frantically grabbing a jacket she'd already changed out of and putting it on over her pajamas. She carefully buttoned it up, one button at a time, before slowly walking back out.
Lila stopped at some distance from Alexander and looked at him with confusion. "Why did you come to my room?"
He didn't say anything. His slender fingers picked up the phone resting on his lap and waved it at her.
She immediately ran over. "Why do you have my phone?"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she reached out to grab it. "Give it back."
Alexander raised his hand back, easily dodging her.
Lila was focused only on getting her phone. As she leaned forward without any guard up, her foot unexpectedly caught on the sofa leg, and her whole body fell toward Alexander.
She landed on top of him.
In that instant, the strong masculine scent coming from Alexander forced its way into Lila's nose in an irresistible, dominating way.
She had never been this close to Alexander before. She didn't know if everyone had their own scent, but the fir tree smell she was catching now made her inexplicably drawn to it.
Lila even sniffed, wanting to smell more of it.
"How many times are you going to pull this throwing-yourself-at-me trick?" A cold, displeased voice with a warning tone reached her ears. She instantly snapped back to reality and quickly stood up.
Lila's face had turned completely red.
She didn't know if it was because this was the first time she'd actively fallen onto a man's body—such a rare feeling—or because Alexander's embrace was firm yet warm, but her heart was beating uncontrollably fast.
Lila secretly glanced at Alexander, who was still sitting on the sofa.
His posture remained elegant, as if the little incident just now hadn't happened at all.
Lila tried hard to calm herself down. When she looked at Alexander, she put on a timid yet gentle smile. "Honey, I wasn't trying to throw myself at you. I just wanted to get my phone. Can you give it back to me?"
"Now you know to call me honey?"
"I'm just doing what you asked. Don't you like it?"
Alexander looked at her silently, his gaze gradually deepening.
She had just taken a bath, and from staying in the bathroom so long, her cheeks were flushed. Combined with her half-dry hair, she looked completely different from her usual well-behaved image. That innocent face even had a special charm somewhere between girl and woman.
When she had fallen onto him just now, he had felt a softness he'd never experienced before. In that moment, some intimate images had unexpectedly flashed through his mind.
But when Alexander's gaze moved down from her face, he caught sight of the jacket she was wearing over her nightgown and frowned slightly.
What was this supposed to mean?
Guarding against him?
Alexander's expression turned a few degrees colder. He stood up from the sofa, holding her phone and asking, "Since you know you have a husband, why don't you keep your distance from other men?"
Lila looked at the phone in his palm.
Had Chris called her?
That was the only male she could think of, but facing Alexander, she definitely couldn't tell the truth.
Lila pressed her lips together slightly, planning to muddy the waters. "After we got our marriage certificate, besides you, I've only seen two males—Mr. Lucas and Charlie. Isn't that keeping my distance?"
"Is that so?"
"Yes."
Alexander let out a light scoff, his deep eyes staring straight at her delicate little face. "Then tell me, who's this man in your phone calling you close to eleven o'clock at night asking if you're asleep?"
