Chapter 63
Lila panicked for a moment.
She instinctively reached out to take the phone, and Alexander actually handed it to her.
After unlocking it, she opened the recent call log. The moment she saw that eleven-digit number, the phone was snatched away by a hand reaching down from above.
"What are you doing?" Lila blurted out.
Alexander acted as if he hadn't heard her at all, and directly blocked and deleted the number he'd wanted to get rid of earlier.
Lila's expression changed slightly. "What gives you the right to delete my call records?"
Alexander narrowed his eyes.
Lila was raising her voice at him.
Over another man.
Alexander looked down at her, his slightly raised voice carrying a hint of danger. "What, can't bear to part with it?"
Lila met his gaze fearlessly. "That's my phone, my personal property. You have no right to do that."
Alexander's cold voice carried a warning. "You're Mrs. Alexander. Whether it's your things or you yourself, I'll do what I want when I want. I can do whatever I please, and you have no choice but to accept it!"
Lila could only clench her teeth. Whatever small bit of goodwill she'd felt toward him from their physical contact earlier vanished completely in an instant.
Lila accused him seriously. "Alexander, you've gone too far."
Alexander didn't care what she said at all. He shoved the phone back into her hands and spoke in a superior tone. "Tell me, who's that man?"
"How should I know who it is? I didn't even get a clear look at that eleven-digit number!"
"You sure about that?"
Lila countered with a question. "If you don't believe me, why are you asking? Besides, have you ever told me who you're in contact with every day? Have I ever questioned you about it? Why do you always stand on some moral high ground to judge, scrutinize, and control me? We're equals!"
"Equals?"
"Yes, all people are born equal!"
"You, someone who can't even do a driver's job properly, want to talk about equality with the CEO of the Sinclair Group? Think about it yourself—isn't that ridiculous?"
"The equality I'm talking about isn't about that, it's..."
Halfway through, Lila suddenly didn't know how to argue anymore.
But Alexander pressed on with a mocking attitude. "It's what?"
Lila turned her head, and soon came up with an argument. "It's between husband and wife. We have a marriage certificate. At the very least, our relationship as a married couple is equal. If you want to control all my social contacts, then shouldn't I be able to ask who you're dealing with every day too?"
Alexander snorted. "Who I deal with, during work hours, aren't you sitting in the lounge watching everything clearly?"
Lila suddenly froze.
Because she couldn't argue with that.
"Now, your turn to tell me who called you in the middle of the night?" Alexander asked again.
Lila looked at him, suddenly remembering that day she was made to stand as punishment, when a woman came to his office to report on work and invited him to dinner.
She mimicked Alexander's tone. "Darling, why don't you tell me first? Who was that woman who came to your office that day to ask you out to dinner? One of your admirers at the Sinclair Group?"
As if he hadn't expected her to suddenly come out with that, Alexander looked at her with some disbelief, narrowing his eyes slightly.
Lila pressed her advantage. "Why so quiet now? Guilty conscience?"
Alexander snorted coldly, his scoff carrying a hint of disdain. "There are so many female employees at the Sinclair Group, plenty of people admire me. Even if someone invites me to dinner, am I supposed to remember them all?"
She reminded Alexander. "But there probably aren't many female employees who can enter your office to report on work, right?"
Alexander glanced at her.
He hadn't realized she'd gotten so clever.
