Chapter 36
This thought flashed through Lila's mind with crystal clarity.
If she came clean to Alexander about not knowing how to cook these dishes, a storm would probably hit immediately.
Even so, Lila still braced herself and looked at Alexander, who had gotten out of the car and was walking toward her. After hesitating several times, she finally spoke up: "Boss, I don't know how to make any of the dishes on this menu."
Alexander's eyes turned cold, his tone becoming dangerous: "What did you say?"
Lila felt the air turn chilly and said carefully, "I... I've never eaten these dishes, and I don't know how to make them. I can only cook simple home-style meals, like basic sandwiches, pan-fried meat, pasta, oatmeal, things like that."
Alexander's expression visibly darkened. "So?"
Lila looked at him apologetically. "Could you just eat whatever I make?"
Alexander stared down at her, his cold blue eyes now tinged with anger, his slightly raised tone dripping with undisguised contempt. "What do you think?"
Lila felt intimidated by his gaze, looked away, and lowered her head.
At the same time, she shuffled to the side, putting some distance between herself and Alexander.
Then Lila tried hard to think about what to do.
But what good solution could she have?
Alexander was so difficult to deal with, even harder than an emperor.
Lila took a deep breath and muttered under her breath, "If it really doesn't work, you could eat out? You're so rich anyway, you could easily afford to eat at seven-star hotels every meal."
"If I eat out, what do I need you for? Can't drive, and now can't even cook? Miss Grace, why don't you tell me. What exactly is your value?"
Lila had no response.
This mental pressure was truly frightening.
Even she couldn't figure out what her value was anymore.
But thinking about it the other way around, what was Alexander's value?
A master at finding fault, with no other use whatsoever.
As Lila remained silent, Alexander's voice rang out again, "Since you've already promised to cook, don't even think about backing out. I'm not that easy to talk to."
Lila glanced at him. "I'm not trying to back out, and I can cook for you, but since you're doing nothing except eating, shouldn't you go along with the arrangements of me, the worker? I'll cook what I want and you eat it. We both compromise. Otherwise..."
Hearing her dare to say "otherwise," with quite a bit of a threatening tone, Alexander narrowed his blue eyes and cut her off, "What?"
Lila shook her head. "Nothing, nothing really. Otherwise, I don't know what to do either. How about this, Boss. You give me a solution?"
Alexander seemed to have something on his mind and suddenly changed the subject, staring at her as he corrected, "This is at home, not at the company. The way you address me should change."
Lila obediently changed her form of address. "Okay, Mr. Sinclair."
Alexander seemed dissatisfied, looking down at her. "At the Sinclair Family Manor, you seemed quite comfortable calling me 'darling.' How come now it's back to Mr. Sinclair?"
"You like hearing me call you darling?"
"I don't like anything about you. Stop dreaming!"
Lila rolled her eyes internally and said lazily, "Well there you go then. Calling you Mr. Sinclair keeps your ears clean and makes me comfortable too."
Alexander snorted coldly in displeasure, enunciating each word heavily. "I'd rather my ears not be clean if it means you can't be comfortable."
With that said, Alexander issued a direct order. "From now on, at home, call me darling."
Lila fell silent.
Are you out of your mind or something?
