Chapter 37
Lila thought to herself that it was a good thing she had a good temper, otherwise she could really get into a fight with Alexander at any moment.
Of course, the reason she didn't fight now wasn't just because of her good temper.
It was also because she didn't dare.
Alexander always looked like he could strangle her at any moment, so how could she dare to go against him?
Lila calmed herself down, blinked her bright eyes, and called out obediently, "Darling."
This call pleased Alexander both physically and mentally. Looking at her obedient appearance, a fleeting flutter crossed his heart. He curved his lips and asked back, "What is it?"
"Can you please eat the food I make?"
"Beg me, and I'll eat it."
Lila's expression changed slightly, and she asked uncertainly, "What did you say?"
For the first time, Alexander patiently repeated himself, "I said, if you beg me, I'll eat the food you make."
"That's too much, isn't it?"
"You're the one who's not skilled enough to meet the agreement's requirements. If you want me to back down, naturally you need to beg me. How am I being too much?"
Lila bit her lip, her voice somewhat aggrieved, "I do the work, you eat the food, and you still want me to beg you? Why should I?"
Alexander stepped closer to her, looking down at the indignant girl. "Because here with me, you have no choice but to obey."
With that, he turned and walked to sit on the living room sofa.
Alexander casually pulled out cigarettes and a lighter from his pocket, took one out and lit it. For a moment, his handsome face hidden behind the swirling smoke appeared and disappeared, adding much mystery to him.
Lila felt a tightness in her chest.
She didn't walk over to beg him.
After standing there for a while, she went into the kitchen, checked what ingredients were in the fridge, and started cooking.
At least at this moment, what she was thinking was: eat it or don't, I don't care.
As for what she'd think later, she'd deal with that then.
In the living room, Alexander saw that she actually went straight to the kitchen and started cooking, completely ignoring what he had just said. The displeasure in his chest almost shot up instantly.
He took a hard drag on his cigarette. Not only did his face look terrible, but his eyes staring at the girl's back also became increasingly deep and complex.
Twenty minutes later, Lila had finished cooking two dishes.
One was pan-fried fish with bay leaves, the other was blanched lettuce.
She had originally wanted to cook oatmeal, but remembering that she hadn't bought any bread when she came back earlier and worried about not having enough to eat, she made spaghetti with meat sauce instead.
Lila knew how to cook quite a few home-style dishes.
This came from when she was ten years old. Her grandmother got sick, and her father was working out of town. To take care of her grandmother, little Lila stood in the kitchen, imitating how her grandmother usually cooked, trying to make food for her.
She was smart and lucky - she succeeded on her first try.
Later, under her care, her grandmother recovered.
After that, she would also take on the important task of cooking when her family was busy with work.
Now she was twenty-two, which meant she had over ten years of cooking experience. So home-cooked meals were easy for her, very simple.
She just hadn't expected that a rich young master wouldn't like the home-cooked meals she was good at.
She and Alexander were from different social classes. She didn't understand his circle at all, or some of his lifestyle habits. Sometimes she couldn't figure out why Gaia was so determined to bring them together.
Now that the food was ready, Lila started thinking, 'Should she really go beg Alexander to eat?'
Or find a way to make him come over on his own?
She first served two bowls of spaghetti and placed them on the dining table, then brought over the dishes she'd cooked. Then she took out her phone, dialed a number, glanced toward the living room, and called out in a sweet voice, "Grandma."
Hearing her call "Grandma," Alexander, who was sitting elegantly in the living room, immediately assumed she was going to complain to his grandmother. He stood up right away, his face dark, and strode toward her.
