Chapter 35
Elara: [I went to the Lucas Group for my final interview this afternoon. Mr. Lucas Jr. had his arm around some woman while interviewing me. You have no idea how awkward I felt. That woman was even flirting with Mr. Lucas Jr. the whole time. So ridiculous.]
Lila was shocked and couldn't help blurting out, "That's so messed up!"
Hearing her words, Alexander frowned and glanced at her, "What kind of nonsense are you looking at?"
Though phrased as a question, Alexander wasn't really asking. He was more like scolding her, in the tone parents use when lecturing their children.
Lila snapped back to reality, realizing she'd accidentally said her thoughts out loud. She replied casually: "Nothing, just chatting with a friend and reacting to something."
After saying that, she typed a message: [This Mr. Lucas Jr. of yours is seriously sick, right? My boss may be difficult, but at least he keeps to himself. Today someone tried to ask him out for dinner, and he rejected them without even looking.]
Elara: [I think Mr. Lucas Jr. was forced to come to the company to interview me. Probably brought his girlfriend along to show his protest or something. Not really sure, but it was definitely ridiculous. But your boss sounds pretty good, though. Not many rich guys keep to themselves like that. You're around him every day, so who knows, you might have a chance! Go for it!]
Elara: [drooling.gif]
Lila: [eye roll.jpg]
Lila: [Even if this opportunity was handed to me on a silver platter, I wouldn't want it. He's always so high and mighty. Who would like someone like that?]
Just as she sent the message, the car suddenly made a sharp turn. Caught off guard, Lila nearly hit her head on the window.
Lila glanced at Alexander.
Coincidentally, he was looking at her too! With that mocking expression.
Before Lila could even ask "what's wrong," she received a barrage of criticism from Alexander: "Who's supposed to be the driver here? Are you going to keep staring at your phone forever? Why aren't you paying attention to the road and watching how other people drive?"
After saying that, Alexander shot her a fierce glare before turning his gaze back to the road ahead and continuing to drive.
This time Lila had no excuse, so she quietly took the criticism.
Her phone rang.
This time, she didn't look at it. She just stared at Alexander driving.
He looked straight ahead, checked the rearview and side mirrors when changing lanes, used his turn signal when turning. His slender fingers turned the steering wheel smoothly and effortlessly, his thin lips pressed tight, his brow slightly furrowed as if displeased.
Lila secretly smiled to herself. Always displeased.
Like someone had betrayed him or cheated on him or something.
"I'm talking to you, didn't you hear?" After turning a corner, Alexander suddenly glared at her again.
Lila quickly responded, "I heard you! I was watching the road and observing how you drive. Is that wrong too?"
Alexander glanced at her. "What's with that attitude?"
What's with YOUR attitude?
Lila really wanted to ask him that, but she didn't dare.
Alexander was always criticizing others, never reflecting on himself.
Impossible to communicate with.
Fifteen minutes later, the car arrived at Island Mansion.
After getting out of the car, Lila finally dared to open her phone to check the message she'd received earlier. It was from Charlie—a menu.
Today was Monday. She looked at the dinner menu.
French roasted lamb chops with garlic red wine sauce, sea urchin chilled tofu with sake salmon roe, French white wine scallops, aged wine dry pot chicken.
Lila froze.
These fancy-sounding dish names. She had no idea what they were, let alone how to make them.
She wasn't a five-star hotel chef!
Her expression growing worse, Lila scrolled down to look at tomorrow's menu.
Tomato red wine beef tendon pot, Burgundy red wine braised beef, wine-cooked chicken cartilage, slow cooker dishes.
She was doomed!
