Chapter 31
Lila's heart sank. She instinctively took a step back and lowered her eyes.
The spark of hope that had just been dancing inside her was completely snuffed out by Alexander's single sentence.
Lila felt secretly angry, keeping her head down without looking at him. "You're powerful and influential, you can do whatever you want. What can a nobody like me do about it? Whatever."
Her voice grew smaller and smaller as she spoke.
Alexander let out a cold laugh that almost escaped through his teeth.
Lila pressed her lips together. "Anything else? If not, I'll head out now."
"Where do you think you're going?"
"Anywhere. Just somewhere I won't be an eyesore to you."
He glanced at a spot to her left rear. "Didn't Grandma tell me to prepare a driver's rest area for you there? Just go wait there and rest properly."
Lila looked in the direction he indicated.
In the corner, there was no chair, no table, just a potted orchid on a plant stand, meticulously cared for.
Was Alexander telling her to face the wall and reflect on her mistakes?
How long would she have to stand there!
She turned back to look at him. Though already angry, her tone was still negotiating when she spoke. "Can I rest outside? When the rest area is ready, I'll come back in to rest."
Alexander gave her a sideways glance. "You're not in a position to bargain!"
Lila tried to communicate with him again. "This is your office. If Sinclair Group executives come in to report to you, aren't you afraid I'll overhear company secrets?"
"With your IQ, you wouldn't understand anyway."
Lila felt helpless.
Who was he looking down on?
She was a bit unhappy now, her expression souring. "I'm going out to rest."
With those words, Lila turned around.
She looked like she was holding back her frustration.
But just as she took a step, her arm was grabbed.
Alexander used considerable force, yanking her right in front of him.
Caught off guard, her nose slammed into Alexander's suit button without warning. It hurt like hell.
Lila covered her nose, her watery eyes staring at him, tears seemingly about to fall.
Alexander ignored this, dragging her to that corner of the office before letting go. Standing over her like a victor, he commanded. "Stay here. Don't go anywhere before work ends."
"Why should I?"
"Because I'm your boss."
Lila bit her lip in anger.
Alexander saw her left hand still covering her nose and frowned slightly. He grabbed her wrist and moved her hand away, checking that her nose wasn't bleeding, then released her hand with disgust, snorted coldly, and turned toward his desk.
Lila rolled her eyes dramatically at his back.
She was furious. Standing in this ridiculous spot was like being a punished elementary school student, completely humiliating.
But actually, more than just humiliation might happen over the course of an afternoon.
After standing for about twenty minutes, there was a knock on the office door.
After Alexander's dignified and indifferent "Come in," someone pushed the door open.
Lila had her back to the entire office space, so she couldn't see who it was.
But soon, the person spoke. "Mr. Sinclair, who is that?"
It was a woman's voice.
Alexander replied casually. "The driver."
"The driver?"
The woman laughed lightly. "Why is the driver in your office?"
Though Lila couldn't see the woman's face or expression, she could clearly detect from that voice the teasing and probing tone, even carrying a hint of that innate female sensitivity toward another woman, speculation and scrutiny.
