Chapter 32
She was probably already guessing in her mind what her relationship with Alexander was.
"You damaged the car, so this is your punishment." Alexander still had some patience.
"I see."
After testing out her presence, the woman began reporting for work. "Mr. Sinclair, here's last quarter's financial report. The electronic version has been sent to your email."
Alexander made a sound of acknowledgment and said nothing more.
From the corner of her eye, Lila glanced back and saw the woman in a business suit looking her way, her gaze somewhat curious as she sized her up.
However, with her back turned, the woman couldn't see her face no matter how hard she looked.
Of course, Lila couldn't see the exact expression on the woman's face either.
Alexander's voice suddenly rang out again. "Anything else?"
The woman's voice was softer than when she'd been discussing work, taking on a more feminine gentleness. "Mr. Sinclair, are you free tonight? I'd like to take you to dinner."
"No." His rejection was decisive and straightforward.
The woman's expression stiffened a bit, but she still maintained her composure and nodded. "Alright, another time then."
Alexander didn't respond.
Utterly cold.
The woman looked at his indifferent demeanor and reluctantly turned to leave.
Lila's sixth sense told her this woman was definitely one of Alexander's many admirers at the Sinclair Group.
After witnessing Alexander's consistent coldness and disregard toward women, she grew more and more curious.
What exactly was so special about Celeste to him?
But her curiosity was quickly replaced by the pain in her feet.
Her heels felt like they were standing on hard stones, hurting like hell. When her body leaned forward slightly, her soles felt like they were on fire, making her so miserable she wanted to cry.
Lila slowly turned around and looked sideways at Alexander, who was sitting at his desk reading documents with his head down. "Boss, my feet hurt."
Without looking up, he tossed out an answer like he was granting a favor, completely casual. "Deal with it."
Lila gritted her teeth, resentment growing in her heart. For a moment, she even thought about complaining to Gaia afterward, but then she reconsidered. She still had so many days ahead living under the same roof as Alexander. She couldn't go running to complain every time, could she?
She had to find a way to save herself.
Just as she was about to say something to plead her case, Alexander's phone rang. He picked it up with elegant movements, swiped to answer, and his thin lips uttered one word. "Speak."
Lila had no interest in admiring his profile, which was perfect from every angle and could be captured as phone wallpaper, nor did she have time to be captivated by his composed, handsome maturity. She only felt her soles burning with fire, her face scrunched up in pain like a bitter melon.
That awful, terrible Alexander. He was driving her crazy!
But this time, she couldn't disobey him.
Because this strategic, high-and-mighty person was deliberately punishing and making things difficult for her today.
If she disobeyed, Alexander would definitely think she was challenging his authority, and relying on Gaia to do it. Once that thought took root, Alexander would probably only punish her even more severely.
Maybe if she endured the pain and cooperated this once, Alexander's anger would subside, and Lila's days ahead would be a bit easier.
Living in someone else's house, she had no choice but to bow her head. Lila carefully tried to read his intentions, struggling to survive.
She didn't know how much time had passed, but just when Lila was about to pass out, Alexander finally shut down his computer, rose from his office chair, glanced at her, and tossed out his words like a handout. "Time to go."
"Okay." Lila was in so much pain her voice was weak.
Alexander walked toward her.
Lila tried to lift her feet, but her legs were completely numb. When she tried to stand on tiptoe, she even thought she hadn't left the ground at all.
She tried to move again.
But with this movement, her legs felt like they were being bitten by thousands of ants.
Lila fell uncontrollably toward the ground...
However, when her knees were ten centimeters from the floor, Lila's arm was grabbed by a broad, large palm. The person yanked hard, and she crashed without warning into a broad, warm embrace.
