Chapter 249
After Alexander's words fell, the study became terrifyingly quiet.
Lila stared at his handsome face. It's either she did not know how to respond to him, or she was stunned by the question. She stood there frozen, unable to say a word for a long time.
It wasn't until Alexander stopped right in front of her that she finally found her voice, "What do you mean by that?"
What did he mean by willing to let her pester him?
His deep gaze fell on her face, those eyes distant as if conveying many complex things that were hard to understand. His low voice slowly let out a few words, "Exactly what I said."
Lila repeated blankly, "What does 'exactly what you said' mean?"
Her two questions in a row made Alexander frown.
Instead of answering, he asked back, "Did Mrs. Sinclair never go to school? Or can you not understand English?"
In the dimly lit study, the overhead light shone on Alexander, as if coating a divine figure in golden light, making him seem so high and mighty, so unreachable.
Lila ultimately couldn't withstand his burning gaze and lowered her head in defeat.
She pressed her lips together slightly, "We have an agreement."
"Agreements are dead, people are alive. Besides, doesn't the agreement say that if feelings develop, there's no need for divorce?"
"But you haven't developed feelings for me."
Hearing her soft voice, Alexander asked back, "Who told you that?"
Lila looked up, "Do you like me then?"
"Can't I have feelings of wanting to keep you as my wife forever and bully you? Does it have to be liking you?"
"I don't want to be bullied by you."
Looking at her cheeks puffed up in dissatisfaction, he found her inexplicably adorable.
For a moment, he couldn't help but smile.
Alexander let out a helpless yet indulgent sigh from his throat, reached out to pull her into his arms, and held her.
His large hand stroked the soft hair on top of her head on and off, his low, husky voice flowing from his throat, "I asked you to hug me, and you went on and on with all this nonsense. Mrs. Sinclair, when it comes to wasting time, there probably aren't many people in this world who can beat you, right?"
Being held by him, Lila's cheek pressed against his soft, comfortable, and expensive bathrobe. She felt so warm.
The scent of his body wash mixed with a natural, masculine scent, strangely intoxicating.
Her cheeks flushed slightly.
Fortunately, with them hugging like this, he probably couldn't see.
Coming back from her thoughts, Lila responded to his words rather defiantly, "You were the one who asked me questions first. I was just answering cooperatively."
Alexander chuckled, "Why do you like to argue so much?"
"I don't!"
After declaring this, she lifted her head from his embrace, looked at Alexander's perfect, superior jawline, and spoke with a hint of grievance, "You won't let me talk back. How would I dare?"
Alexander's right hand held her shoulder while his left hand lifted her chin, speaking with unclear meaning, "Mrs. Sinclair always says she doesn't dare, but in reality, she does everything she should and shouldn't do, and has even thought through all the arguments in her mind, hasn't she?"
Lila stared at his perceptive eyes, shocked for a moment!
He knew what she was thinking?
Impossible!
She shook her head mechanically, "No, I haven't done anything I shouldn't have done, and I haven't been arguing in my mind. Don't wrongly accuse me."
"Wrongly accuse?"
He snorted lightly, his thin lips holding a bit of a smile as he spoke, "You're the one being stubborn, you're the one arguing, and you're still the one blaming me. Mrs. Sinclair's skills, I've really learned something today."
