Chapter 220
Alexander didn't know how to respond to her.
Lila noticed his expression darken and wondered if she had said something wrong.
She didn't dare push for an answer and quietly lowered her head to eat.
But Alexander spoke through gritted teeth: "Lila, if it weren’t for me, you probably would’ve never had the chance to eat at a place like this in your entire life. You know that, right?"
There was no hiding the displeasure in his cold tone, and Lila distinctly caught the arrogance laced within it.
She didn't know why he suddenly changed his mood, but still nodded: "I understand."
"Since you understand, then appreciate this rare opportunity to eat at a fancy restaurant and talk less."
"Got it."
Lila responded and said nothing more, lowering her head to eat dinner.
She couldn’t figure out why his mood had changed so drastically, but she didn’t dare press him. All she could do was lower her head and finish the expensive dishes in front of her.
After eating, Lila wondered why Alexander had chosen this restaurant when he barely seemed to eat anything.
Whatever, he's paying anyway. She thought.
When the two left the restaurant, it was already late.
Although Oceancrest City was a coastal city, the temperature difference between day and night was significant. The instant she left the warmth of the restaurant, bouquet pressed to her chest, Lila shivered as the cold air wrapped around her.
Noticing her movement, Alexander—his expression already dark—frowned even more deeply.
He quickly took off his expensive suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
Lila instinctively turned around, and when she met his deep, dark eyes, she froze for a few seconds, then refused: "Boss, no need, we'll be in the car soon."
Alexander stopped her movement and said firmly: "It's cold, wear it!"
"Thank you," she said.
When she finished, she smiled at him softly, her eyes glowing with sincere warmth. “Boss, you’re really good to me.”
Alexander's gaze paused slightly.
He narrowed his eyes a bit, looking at her with an unclear expression: "That's all it takes?"
Lila nodded vigorously: "Yeah, it's cold and you gave me your jacket to wear while you're cold yourself—isn't that being good to me? To be honest, I'm actually a bit touched."
As the words left her lips, she glanced shyly and briskly made her way toward Alexander’s car.
Alexander stood still and suddenly smiled.
A smile gradually spread across his face, and the annoyance sparked by Lila’s comment about the high price of the restaurant faded away in an instant.
So, in her understanding, giving her a jacket to wear meant being good to her?
Was it that simple?
He seemed to suddenly understand this feeling—when carefully planned actions don't meet expectations, but spontaneous gestures receive more appreciation.
Alexander shook his head with a light laugh and strode to catch up with Lila, opening the car door for her before she could reach for it.
With a smile in her eyes, Lila looked at him one last time before climbing into the car.
Alexander watched her holding the flowers and suggested: "Give me the flowers, I'll put them in the back seat?"
"No need."
"No?"
Her face showed a sweet, adorable smile: "These flowers are so beautiful, I want to look at them more and smell their fragrance. Boss, don't worry, I can hold them."
So she liked the flowers too.
Alexander curved his lips, suddenly feeling even more pleased.
His blue eyes fell on her fair, pretty face as he reminded her in a low voice: "Mrs. Sinclair, it's after work hours now. You should call me honey, not boss."
Lila turned to meet his gaze, playing along. “Honey, it’s cold out here. Get in the car quickly—let’s go home.”
“Okay,” Alexander said as he closed the car door.
He walked around the front of the car to the driver's seat, and as he started the engine, he glanced at Lila in the passenger seat from the corner of his eye.
She lowered her head, inhaling the fragrance of the roses in her arms, a faint smile on her lips.
To Alexander, the scene was peaceful and captivating. It melted his heart, but at the same time, dark and uncontrollable desires rose from deep within.
