Chapter 219

Chapter 219

Alexander was very serious and focused, his deep blue eyes resting on Lila's face with an inexplicable sense of pressure.

What Alexander said surprised her even more.

An apology?

There was actually a word like "apology" in Alexander's dictionary?

Lila had always thought that someone as domineering, dictatorial, and self-righteous as Alexander wouldn't even know how to spell "apology."

When she didn't respond, he raised his tone to urge her: "Mrs. Sinclair, I'm waiting for your response, hmm?"

Only then did Lila snap out of her thoughts.

She glanced at the flowers he was holding out to her and sorted through the current situation in her mind.

If she accepted them, it would mean she agreed.

If she didn't accept them, it would mean she refused.

But this was just a turning point for the two of them to make peace—there didn't seem to be any need to refuse, right?

Lila's gaze moved from the gorgeous, vibrant flowers to Alexander's face. Meeting his burning stare, she looked away nervously, pressed her lips together, reached out to take the flowers, and dropped two words with extreme discomfort: "Thank you."

Alexander's eyes darkened slightly.

Lila actually seemed so calm?

She didn't seem moved at all, and her face didn't even show the sense of vanity he had imagined.

He found it hard to believe. He helped adjust her chair so she could sit back down, his puzzled gaze falling on her face as he narrowed his eyes slightly.

Lila didn't notice Alexander's scrutiny.

After sitting down, she placed the flowers beside her, then looked up at him.

Alexander walked back to his seat.

At that moment, the waiter knocked and came in to serve the food.

The two maintained a moment of silence. After the waiter left, Lila looked at the delicious-looking food in front of her, then thought about the sky-high prices on the menu, and suddenly became curious about what this food would taste like.

A voice interrupted her thoughts: "Mrs. Sinclair, I'm treating you to dinner and giving you flowers. What do you think?"

Lila's gaze shifted from the dishes to Alexander's face. Looking at his handsome face with a slight smile, she curved her lips: "I think this restaurant's food is really expensive, not a good deal."

Alexander was so annoyed by Lila's pragmatism that he couldn't find words.

His expression immediately turned gloomy.

Unwilling to give up, Alexander pressed on: "Nothing else?"

Anything else?

Lila thought for a moment, then glanced at the flowers she had placed beside her: "The flowers are pretty nice. Today is the first time I've received flowers from someone, so I'm quite happy."

Alexander frowned: "That's it?"

She frowned too, looking at Alexander with confusion: "Boss, what exactly do you want to ask?"

What did he want to ask?

Alexander wrinkled his brow somewhat helplessly: "Nothing, let's eat."

"Okay."

After responding, Lila picked up her utensils and started eating.

She first tried a piece of broccoli, chewing carefully, wanting to see if the broccoli from such a high-end restaurant with such expensive prices could taste different from what she'd had before.

The result was: no.

If there was anything special about it, it was probably that this broccoli was cooked with a richer flavor than ordinary broccoli.

She looked at Alexander with some confusion: "Boss, can I ask you a question?"

Alexander dropped a word with little interest: "Ask."

"This restaurant is so expensive. Do you think their food tastes better than other affordable restaurants?"

He frowned: "What, you think it tastes bad?"

Lila shook her head: "No, I just think it's too expensive. Even though you're very rich, boss, you shouldn't bring me to such expensive places to eat in the future. It's kind of a waste of money. If you want to treat me to a meal again, I can choose the place. I'll take you to affordable restaurants with good food. How about that?"

How about that?

Alexander was so annoyed by Lila's pragmatism that he didn't know what to say.

The dinner and flowers he had carefully prepared had become a "waste" in her mouth?
