Chapter 161
Alexander looked at her, his originally expressionless face gradually turning cold, his eyes even more icy and stern.
When he spoke, Alexander let out a cold snort, "If your feelings for me are so pure, then who do you actually love? Chris, or your Matt?"
"I..."
Lila was about to answer when Alexander cut her off dominantly, "I don't care who's in your heart—clear them all out."
Lila glared at him and couldn't help retorting, "You're really something. Do you think you can just forget someone with a few words? Feelings aren't objects you can pick up and put down whenever you want."
These words instantly enraged Alexander.
He suddenly grabbed her arm, his grip tightening without him realizing it.
Lila frowned in pain.
But Alexander didn't notice how hard he was gripping. Looking down at her, his angry warning voice carried a heavy threat, "Lila, I'm your husband, the man who should matter most to you. I suggest you think carefully before you speak, or else..."
He didn't finish, but his threatening look was enough to intimidate Lila.
She bit her lip and struggled. "You're hurting me."
Only then did Alexander glance at his hand gripping her arm, and immediately loosened his hold.
Free now, Lila looked at him once and walked out of the kitchen.
Alexander closed his eyes, forcing down the anger in his chest, then turned and followed her.
He only found out today that the contract wife his grandmother had found for him was apparently surrounded by so many flies—high school classmates, college classmates, some town doctor, and a neighbor boy.
Ha, so many men!
Alexander couldn't help thinking that if Lila ranked all these men including himself in her heart, she would probably put him dead last without hesitation.
In his twenty-five years of life, he had never ranked so low in anything.
In the courtyard.
The old lady sat on a stone bench enjoying the sun. Seeing Lila and Alexander come out, she asked casually, "Lila, Alex, finished with the dishes?"
Lila replied, "Yeah."
Alexander said, "All done, Grandma."
The old lady nodded. "Good, good. Come sit and chat with this old woman."
Lila sat down beside Grandma and said, "Grandma, the weather's so nice today. The sun feels wonderful."
"Yes, it's been gloomy for days, but as soon as you two came back, the sun came out. Perfect for getting some vitamin D."
"That's great."
While they were talking, Alexander had already sat down across from them.
The old lady then turned her attention to him, "Alex, I want to ask you something. May I?"
"Please go ahead, Grandma."
"Why did you marry our Lila?"
Hearing this question, Lila got goosebumps all over.
Why?
Ha, because his grandmother forced him to.
She tugged at the old lady's arm. "Grandma, don't ask such pointless questions. Just talk to me instead, okay? We haven't seen each other in days. What's there to talk about with him?"
The old lady shot her a look and said, "Don't make trouble. I want to chat with Alex. My precious granddaughter is living with someone. I need to understand the basics before I can feel at ease."
Lila couldn't come up with another excuse.
Things had come to this point, so she could only hope Alexander would be merciful and not upset her grandmother.
But thinking about their confrontation in the kitchen just now, she really felt she couldn't count on Alexander for anything.
