Chapter 162
Alexander hadn't said a word since Grandma finished speaking.
Lila felt really nervous inside.
The old lady looked at him again. "Alex, tell me what you think. I'm listening."
Alexander glanced at Lila and caught sight of her dejected look. His lips curved up slightly, though his expression didn't change much.
Then he looked at the old lady and slowly began. "Lila is very sweet and lovely. She has a good personality, and sometimes she's pretty smart too. We get along well most of the time. As for getting married, it was a decision we both made together."
Hearing these words, Lila's drooping head immediately shot up, and she looked at Alexander.
He was looking at her too, his gaze like cool spring water on a summer day, making Lila's heart itch inexplicably.
In the moment she looked away, Grandma had already started speaking again. "By the way, Lila has never told me how you two met?"
"She helped my grandmother once by chance, and my grandmother introduced us."
The old lady immediately smiled. "Really? Our Lila has always been helpful."
Alexander responded with unclear meaning. "Mm, I can see that."
After the old lady finished speaking, she felt something was off and quickly asked. "Wait, Alex, your marriage to Lila—it wasn't your grandmother's idea, was it?"
Lila interrupted her. "Grandma, why do you have so many questions? If he didn't agree to the marriage, just his grandmother agreeing wouldn't make it happen. Stop talking to him so much. Chat with me instead—tell me if anything interesting happened in town while I was away these past few days?"
The old lady patted her hand. "Okay, okay, Grandma will chat with you."
Just as she was about to speak, she noticed something and looked down at Lila's hand. It was completely bare, with nothing on it.
The old lady immediately looked at Alexander. "Young Fu, there's something I'm not sure if I should say or not."
"Please go ahead, Grandma."
"I just asked Lila about you. You're a manager at a small company, making over ten thousand a month. After working all these years, you must have saved up some money."
Alexander made a sound of acknowledgment in response while looking at Lila with a cold gaze.
One look at his expression and Lila knew he was still bothered by her saying he was a manager, as if it damaged his reputation.
She really didn't know where he got such high standards from.
He wasn't an idol or anything!
Grandma continued. "I've never expected our Lila to find someone super rich. I just want her to find someone who knows how to cherish her and will take good care of her. Meeting you today, I think you're polite. You don't say much, but at least you're steady, so I feel somewhat at ease. But there's one thing I want to mention. Don't think I'm being vulgar, old woman that I am."
Alexander was unusually patient. "I won't."
"I've never expected a grand wedding when Lila gets married. Whether you have a wedding and honeymoon is up to you young people. But my precious granddaughter is no worse than anyone else. She can't get married without even having wedding jewelry, can she?"
Hearing Grandma say this, Lila's heart immediately started pounding.
If it were a love match, or someone met through normal matchmaking, when it came to marriage, a wedding and jewelry would definitely be necessary.
But she and Alexander had a marriage agreement with no emotional foundation—they hadn't even gone through the normal dating process. How could she have the nerve to ask him for these things?
