Chapter 145
After seeing Gaia off, Alexander went back upstairs.
He walked to the master bedroom door and was about to enter when Lila pulled the door open from inside.
For a moment, their eyes met.
Lila spoke first, "Why did you lie to Grandma just now?"
"Lie about what?"
"You said you got the injury on your head while fooling around in bed, but that's not true."
Alexander chuckled, crossing his arms as he looked at her, "If I didn't say that, did you want me to tell Grandma that you were the one who hit me?"
She froze.
That definitely wouldn't work.
Fine, she'd just assume he said that to protect her.
But she still felt that what he said to Grandma was a bit improper, and Grandma's reaction was interesting too—what was that about ordering an extra-large bed?
Lila snapped back to reality and glanced at Alexander, "Grandma's gone, I need to go back to my room to change."
With that, she lifted her foot to leave.
However, she had barely taken a step when she was suddenly swept up into the air.
She turned her head in surprise, looking at Alexander who was princess-carrying her for the second time that morning, and stammered, "What... what are you doing?"
Alexander glanced at her and said casually, "You're barefoot. If you catch a cold, Grandma will blame me again. I'm taking you back to your room, is that not okay?"
Lila looked at his perfect jawline, "I'm not that delicate. I won't catch a cold from walking a few steps."
Alexander said seriously, "Lila can be not delicate, but Mrs. Sinclair cannot."
She twitched her lips, unsure whether she should be happy about the special treatment that came with being "Mrs. Sinclair."
After a few seconds of silence, Lila looked at Alexander who was carrying her.
He was very good-looking, with handsome features and an elegant, noble air—the type that would make people's hearts flutter at first sight. Of course, that was assuming he kept his mouth shut and didn't talk much.
Having experienced his sharp tongue, Lila didn't have much fondness for him.
But being held by a man like this, especially a rich and handsome one, she really couldn't keep her mind clear.
She would get flustered too, her thoughts would wander.
As he stepped into the guest bedroom, Lila reminded him softly, "Actually, if you have a girl you like, you shouldn't be holding other women. That kind of behavior is a bit unfaithful."
He gave her a meaningful glance, "Am I playing with your feelings?"
"Not really, after all, you married me because you had no choice."
"So, cut the nonsense."
She pressed her lips together and asked, "But aren't you afraid Miss Phillips will be angry with you when she comes back?"
The moment those words left her mouth, Alexander's previously calm and gentle expression turned cold.
His steps stopped, and his chilling gaze fell on her face.
Lila's heart instantly jumped. After a brief silence in the air, she gathered her courage and tactfully assured him, "I'm sorry, I won't mention her again."
Alexander's dark eyes stared at her, his words carrying a heavy warning, "You'd better remember—not everyone is worthy of mentioning her in front of me."
Her eyes flickered and her expression stiffened.
Just moments ago, he had been worried about her catching cold from walking barefoot, so he carried her. Now she was in his arms, their skin touching, such an intimate and beautiful scene, yet the words coming from his mouth were so cruel and harsh.
Lila's soft heart felt like it had been pricked by a sharp needle.
The sensation made her nose sting.
She pressed her lips together, lowered her eyes to avoid Alexander's gaze, and responded softly, "I understand."
When she said this, there was already something off about Lila's voice.
But...
