Chapter 83 The Cruel Truth
Diana looked up at Henry.
He was usually emotionless, and it was only in bed that she could see him lose control and become passionate. She couldn't see through Henry, but she understood what it meant to go back to Evergreen City with him.
"What? You don't want to?" Henry looked down at Diana in his arms.
"Yes, I do," She said.
"We'll probably leave in about a week. Get ready." He said.
After he left, she sat in the living room in a daze. She liked him, wanted to go with him, and hoped this relationship would have a result, but she didn't want to maintain it in this way.
She used to think she'd be carefree when they parted, but she was wrong. People were greedy; she wanted more than just staying by his side.
She was daydreaming when her phone vibrated with a call from Elodie. When she answered, Elodie started yelling, "Diana, do you still consider me a friend? You didn't tell me about being kidnapped and hospitalized! I'm telling you, I'm very angry!"
Elodie had been writing a thesis recently, staying up late every night, and hadn't been paying much attention to the outside world.
Had Caleb not messaged her asking to check on Diana, she wouldn't have known that so much had happened in the past few days while she was writing her thesis.
"I'm fine now," Diana reassured her.
"Are you still in the hospital? I'll come over right away," Elodie said.
"I've been discharged!" Diana replied.
"Then send me your address," Elodie said.
When Elodie arrived, she brought a lot of things, and with what Juniper had prepared, there was almost no place to put them.
"Who prepared these?" Elodie looked at the expensive supplements and then at the milk she brought, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Henry's mother," Diana answered.
"You two are progressing so fast? You've met his mother? How is she? Is she nice?" Elodie asked.
"How do you always have so many questions?" Diana retorted.
"I just want you to be happy. You deserve the best," Elodie muttered, "It's just a pity about Caleb."
"I don't like him," Diana said directly.
"He knows and hasn't been pestering you. He's very considerate," Elodie said.
"By the way, I'm planning to go back to Evergreen City with Henry," Diana said.
Elodie was stunned for a moment, then hugged her excitedly. "I knew it! Even if Henry leaves Velvet City, he won't abandon you."
That night, Elodie stayed over, and the next afternoon, she accompanied Diana to the police station.
After the questioning, the police handed her the written statement and pointed to a spot. "Sign here."
Diana picked up the pen. While signing, the police said, "Aurora wants to see you and apologize in person."
"No need," Diana said coldly.
She thought she could be quite ruthless at times.
She didn't want any more ties with the Windsors. Whether Aurora apologized or not, she didn't care.
The police nodded. "It's up to you. But during our questioning, she revealed some information about your parents. However, she refused to say more unless she saw you."
The polices shouldn't have agreed to the suspect's request, but since it involved Diana's parents, they had to inform her.
Diana pursed her lips. "Fine, I'll see her."
In just a few days, Aurora looked haggard with her handcuffs. She looked gaunt, no longer the vibrant and flamboyant person she once was.
Seeing her so down and out, Diana felt no sympathy; only deep emotion.
"What do you want to say to me?" Diana asked.
"I," Aurora opened her mouth, glancing timidly at the police officer beside her. "I want a glass of water."
After drinking some water, Aurora looked at Diana. "You know, I've always been jealous of you."
"You, jealous of me?" Diana said flatly.
She explained, "The first time I saw you, you were dressed like a little princess, smart and beautiful. Even if you wanted the moon, your parents would get it for you."
"But life is unpredictable," Diana chuckled softly.
Aurora continued, "When they died, I was actually happy. You were no longer the high and mighty little princess, but everyone still loved to compare me to you. I wasn't as obedient or as good at studying as you.
"Even in school, the boys I liked fought over you. Why?"
She suddenly became agitated. "What makes me inferior to you?!"
"Calm down!" the police officer reminded.
After calming down, she smiled. "My parents have given up on me, you know?"
"Yes." Diana nodded.
"They didn't even hire a lawyer for me, leaving me alone," She said.
Diana frowned. "You said you had information about my parents. That's why I'm here; not for this."
Elodie was still waiting outside, not having time to listen to Aurora's ramblings.
"Do you know why my mom was so good to you?" Aurora asked.
"To build a kind and virtuous image for herself?" Diana said.
"Not just that," Aurora shook her head. "Our family never intended to adopt you, until..."
Elodie waited in the police station lobby for a long time. It wasn't until the sun was setting that she saw Diana come out.
"Diana, I saw a good Mexican restaurant recommended by someone on Facebook. Let's go eat there." Elodie ran over with a smile, but saw Diana's face pale as a sheet, barely able to stand.
"Elodie," Diana looked at her with red eyes.
"What happened? Are you feeling unwell? Headache? Stomachache?" Elodie quickly supported her arm.
"How are some people so cruel?!" Diana said.
When her parents had the car accident, Diana was also injured and hospitalized. Being too young to understand much, she was grateful when Nathan and Celeste adopted her; always being cautious, obedient, and sensible.
"You mean Aurora?" Elodie frowned, "She bullied you since childhood, she's just inherently bad. Now she's getting what she deserves, and you're feeling sorry for her?"
"Not her." Diana shook her head.
"Then who?" Elodie pressed.
"I want to go back and rest. I'm so tired," Diana said.
She didn't want to talk, so Elodie didn't press her further. She took her back to Serenity Manor and stayed in the living room until Henry returned.
"Mr. Spencer, Diana hasn't been herself since she returned from the police station. Please take care of her." Elodie said.
Henry nodded.
After Elodie left, he opened the bedroom door. He didn't turn on the lights; the air conditioning was very low, and Diana was curled up in the blanket like a baby.
He thought she was asleep and tried to pull the blanket away so she wouldn't sleep with her head covered, but he couldn't. When he used more force, the blanket came off, revealing Diana's eyes that were red from crying.
"Diana?" Henry frowned.
"Aurora said Nathan used my parents' inheritance to start his company, which is why Celeste was good to me," She said with tears.
"They were feeding off my estate all over and finally sold me to a fat guy, to squeeze out my last bit of value." She was agitated.
Learning the truth felt like someone was stabbing her in the chest with a sharp knife. She was terribly heartbroken with how cruel the Windsor family was!
