Chapter 178
Chapter 178
"Impossible, this can't be happening!"
Eleanor put her hands on her head and made high-pitched, creepy sounds that made people shiver.
She viciously tore at her own hair. If someone had been standing beside her, they could have even heard the sound of hair breaking—the pain must have been intense.
But Eleanor seemed completely numb to it, just kept tearing away, handful after handful, countless strands ripped out and scattered all over the floor.
"Not possible!" This can't be how it is! There must be something wrong!
Eleanor's body kept trembling as she picked up the report again and read it several more times.
But each time she looked, it hit her like a blow.
"Ah!"
Eleanor screamed again in a high-pitched voice and slammed her head hard against the wall.
"How could those three children possibly be William's biological kids?"
"Now Emily's back with William too, the five of them all together like one happy family. Where does that leave me?"
"What about me?" Does this mean I can't be with William? That he won't see me again?
"Why? I was only abroad for a few years. Why did everything turn into this mess when I came back!"
"No, it's not like this. I'm the one William loves most, I am!"
Eleanor screamed like a madwoman, threw her phone violently across the room, then started smashing everything in sight. Tables, chairs, and decorations shattered into pieces.
The commotion quickly drew her parents, Arthur Beaumont and Ophelia Carrington. They struggled for quite a while before managing to get the door open.
Seeing their daughter in such a crazed state, Ophelia cried out in distress and rushed forward to restrain Eleanor, but couldn't hold back her frenzied daughter.
"Eleanor, what's wrong?"
"We're back home now. What happened abroad has nothing to do with us anymore. You're safe now."
Ophelia desperately tried to hold Eleanor tight, but was shoved away hard.
Eleanor shook her head frantically, completely losing control. "Mom, do you know? William has children now, he has three children!"
"Hahaha, I was only abroad for a few years, and he already has three children!"
"What?"
Ophelia looked shocked, instinctively turning to Arthur, who also wore an expression of disbelief.
"Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
Arthur quickly walked to Eleanor's side, his tone full of doubt. "In just these few years, how could William possibly have children?"
"You must be wrong. When I get the chance, I'll go to his place and ask. This has to be a mistake!"
"Don't get upset. The doctor said you can't handle stress."
"No! I can't accept this!"
Eleanor broke down crying, tears streaming out mixed with uncontrolled emotions.
"Do you know what I went through abroad? The only thing that kept me going was William."
"I thought when I came back, I'd marry him, we'd have our own children, and he'd love me."
"Before we left the country, he was so good to me. He even said he'd wait for me to come back and keep taking care of me."
"Why did he have children with another woman while I was gone? Why did it turn out like this?"
"Dad, tell me, why? Why?"
"Ophelia, what are you standing there for? Get her medicine!"
Arthur anxiously pushed Ophelia. She finally snapped out of it and frantically searched through drawers and cabinets for the medication.
But Eleanor suddenly raised her hand and gripped her own throat tightly, muttering, "I don't want to live anymore! What's the point of living?"
"My whole reason for living is gone. William doesn't want me, he has someone else..."
"What am I supposed to do? What were all those years of holding on for? What was all my suffering for? What about my future?"
"Ophelia! Hurry up!"
Arthur gripped Eleanor's arm tightly, using all his strength to control her.
Ophelia searched even faster for the medicine.
She turned the drawers upside down, even pulled out Eleanor's suitcase from the corner, but still couldn't find the medication.
"Arthur, I can't find it. What's going on? Did she hide it? Or did she throw it away?"
When Eleanor went crazy, Arthur, over fifty years old, couldn't control her at all. His fifty-something body was no match for his daughter in this frenzied state.
In a moment of carelessness, Eleanor shoved Arthur away hard, grabbed an eyebrow razor from the vanity, and slashed it viciously across her arm.
"Eleanor!"
Ophelia's heart broke as she rushed forward to stop her. "Silly child, what are you doing?"
"Even if William has children and doesn't want you, you can't punish yourself like this. This isn't your fault at all."
"Eleanor, listen to me. We'll be with you. We'll find you a better man in the future. How could you possibly not find someone to marry?"
"Arthur, go find the medicine! Go downstairs!"
Arthur immediately rushed downstairs.
About a minute later, he came running back up in a panic, having lost one of his shoes.
They struggled with all their might to get the medicine into Eleanor's mouth and made her drink some water.
Only then did Eleanor slowly calm down, though blood was streaming from her arm—it looked like she'd cut a vein.
Arthur didn't dare alert anyone else in the house. He found the medical kit and carefully bandaged Eleanor's wound.
By the time they came out of Eleanor's room, a full half hour had passed.
Ophelia wiped her tears, her voice full of helplessness. "What are we going to do?"
"Didn't the doctor say Eleanor's mental state was stable and she wouldn't have episodes anymore? How did she suddenly become like this?"
Before Arthur could respond, she cursed through gritted teeth, "It's all that bastard William's fault!"
"He promised to wait for Eleanor to come back, but he went and had children with another woman—three of them! How could she handle that?"
"The Brown family—not a single good person among them!"
"And it's your fault too! Didn't you say Eleanor could definitely marry William when she came back?"
"Why did you make that promise to Eleanor if you weren't sure? Now look at her—what are we supposed to do?"
"How was I supposed to know things would turn out like this?"
Arthur also looked pained and anxious.
Eleanor suffered from schizophrenia and mania.
When they went abroad, she had been fine. Even during the physical exam before leaving, nothing unusual was found.
But abroad, many unbelievable things happened to Eleanor. She suffered terribly, and during that time, her condition fully manifested.
The worst time, Eleanor stabbed herself several times.
Fortunately, Arthur and Ophelia discovered her in time and rushed her to the hospital, which saved her life.
