Chapter 246: Phoebe Actually Plotted Against Her
Chapter 246: Phoebe Actually Plotted Against Her
Vivian was discussing this quarter's marketing budget with her subordinate when she heard a noise and instinctively blinked.
When she saw Larry, a flash of pleasant surprise crossed her eyes as she smiled and said, "Mr. White, you're here. Why didn't you let me know in advance?"
Before she could finish speaking, Larry cut her off expressionlessly, "Slap her!"
Vivian froze for a moment. She was about to ask what was going on when Reid slapped her hard across the face before she could speak.
The slap was incredibly forceful. Her face whipped to the side, a trace of blood seeping from the corner of her mouth, her cheek instantly burning with pain.
The employee beside them, caught between the two, was already frozen in shock.
"Again. It doesn't look good when both sides aren't symmetrical!" Larry sat down on the sofa with his cane and ordered coldly.
Vivian raised her hand, signaling Reid to wait. "Mr. White, can you at least hear me out first?"
"Didn't you hear what I said?" Larry might appreciate her abilities, but if she dared to scheme against him, he wouldn't let her off easily!
Reid acknowledged and stepped forward to slap Vivian's other cheek.
Vivian's body swayed. She grabbed the table to barely steady herself, feeling a ringing in her ears.
What was going on?
She had told Larry about Phoebe's fake pregnancy. Even if he was angry, logically, he shouldn't blame her for it.
What exactly went wrong?
The employee nearby went weak in the knees and collapsed to the floor.
"Mr. White, whatever this is about, let's talk it through. Can you let him leave first?" Vivian pointed at her subordinate and said with a bitter smile, "He's a new employee we just hired this year. He hasn't seen much of the world. Don't scare him too badly."
Larry snorted coldly, "Embarrassed to get slapped in front of your employees?"
"I just don't want people saying Mr. White acts brutally," Vivian said earnestly.
Larry threw the cup in his hand directly onto the floor. The cup shattered instantly, with a shard flying to Vivian's feet.
Vivian's heart seized with the sound. She hadn't met with Larry many times. Though the atmosphere at their previous meetings wasn't exactly warm, it had never been this hostile.
What on earth was happening?
How had she offended Larry?
Or had the Bell family or the Bell Group provoked Larry, causing him to take it out on her?
"I have way more experience than you. Don't think your little tricks can fool me!" Larry practically roared. "Do you think I'm an idiot?"
Those were very harsh words.
Vivian wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth. She still didn't understand the situation and knew that saying more would only make things worse. It was better to stay silent.
"Feel like it's embarrassing to get slapped with someone watching?" Larry asked her again.
Without waiting for her answer, he ordered Reid, "Go make this gentleman a cup of coffee and have him sit on the sofa and watch carefully!"
Vivian frowned slightly and looked at the male employee. Being stared at by both her and Larry, the male employee's legs went weak, and he couldn't move. Reid grabbed him by the collar and hauled him to the sofa, then had one of his men make coffee.
"Mr. White, can I ask why?" Vivian winced as soon as she spoke, her mouth hurting badly. "Is there some misunderstanding between us?"
Larry suddenly struck his cane hard on the floor and raised his voice, "Misunderstanding?"
With his high position came an intimidating presence. The male employee was so scared he nearly fell off the sofa.
"Let me ask you first. Two years ago, using the news that the Bell family was about to form a business alliance with the White family through marriage, having the Bell Group take the opportunity to enter the smart home market—was that your idea?" Larry asked.
Vivian bit her lip and answered obediently, "That was indeed my idea. But didn't you already make things clear with the Bell family a few days ago? And the Bell Group has also made appropriate compensation."
"You only need to answer yes or no. No need for all this nonsense!" Larry said sternly.
Vivian frowned but still softly agreed.
"Let me ask you again. Did you tell me about Phoebe's fake pregnancy?" Larry said.
Vivian nodded. She wanted to explain briefly, but remembering his earlier rebuke, she ultimately held back.
Larry continued questioning Vivian, "Let me ask you again. Did you know about Phoebe's fake pregnancy from the very beginning?"
Vivian had indeed suspected from the start that Phoebe was faking her pregnancy, because Phoebe said she was two months pregnant, but about a month ago, Phoebe had been rushed to the emergency room several times.
Even if there really was a baby, it would be very difficult to keep it!
So she nodded.
"Phoebe didn't lie to me after all!" Larry immediately stood up, his face dark. "The idea for her to fake the pregnancy—it really came from you!"
Only if it was Vivian's idea could she have known from the beginning that Phoebe was faking her pregnancy!
This conclusion stunned Vivian. After processing it, her face instantly turned deathly pale as she hurried to explain, "Mr. White, is there some misunderstanding here? I never gave Phoebe the idea to fake a pregnancy!"
What was going on?
Larry was saying that Phoebe told him the fake pregnancy idea came from her.
Larry didn't believe Vivian's words at all and said through gritted teeth, "You still dare to make excuses!"
"Mr. White, I'm really not making excuses!" Vivian said anxiously. "To put it bluntly, I've always wanted to be with Noah. How could I possibly help Phoebe come up with ideas?"
Larry said, "Right, of course you wouldn't kindly help her with ideas."
Hearing this, Vivian relaxed slightly. Her clothes were already soaked with cold sweat.
Then she heard Larry continue, "You gave her this idea with bad intentions from the start! Now you're telling me about her fake pregnancy because you want to use me to get rid of Phoebe, right? Everything connects, one step after another, quite a thorough plan!"
If it were any other time, he might praise her for doing well, but she was scheming against him, which was a different matter entirely! No one could scheme against him and walk away unscathed!
All color drained from Vivian's face. "Mr. White, let me explain. This doesn't make any sense."
"Vivian, you shouldn't have schemed against me. You'll regret your actions very soon!" Larry interrupted her. "Also, no matter how smart you are, you miscalculated this time. Phoebe is really pregnant. You want to use me to get rid of her? Let me tell you, I'm not that easy to use."
He paused and stared at Vivian with a sinister look. "Today is just a warning. Go back and tell your father to watch his back."
With that, he didn't give Vivian another chance to explain and left directly with Reid and the others.
Vivian's legs were functional, but she didn't like people seeing her walk with a limp.
She sat in her wheelchair and quickly wheeled after them. "Mr. White!"
No response.
Larry didn't even look back.
Vivian's eyelids twitched wildly, her limbs weak and powerless.
What on earth was happening?
How had things developed like this?
Vivian suddenly gripped the wheelchair armrests tightly, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
Right, Larry said it was Phoebe who told him.
Phoebe. Phoebe was actually pregnant.
Then those hickeys on her neck!
Her pupils suddenly contracted. Phoebe had actually schemed against her?
