Chapter 247: The Bell Group Bankruptcy
Chapter 247: The Bell Group Bankruptcy
In just three days, for Vivian, it was like falling from heaven straight into hell.
The Bell Group.
"Ms. Bell! This is bad! The bank sent a lawyer's letter demanding we pay back the two billion dollar loan within three days, or they'll seize the building!"
"Ms. Bell! The suppliers drove all their trucks away, and the factory has shut down!"
"Also, the Bell Group's stock has hit the limit down for three consecutive days. The shareholders are all demanding to pull out."
Secretaries ran into the office one after another, bringing nothing but bad news.
Vivian sat in her leather chair, hair disheveled, her usually well-maintained face now covered in oil and fear.
"Get out! All of you, get out!"
She grabbed documents from the desk and threw them hard at the secretary. "Where's my dad? Get my dad to handle this! I'm not dealing with this!"
The secretary couldn't dodge in time and was struck in the forehead by the folder. She got angry, too. "Mr. Bell is still unconscious in the ICU! The doctor said it was a sudden brain hemorrhage, and they don't even know if he'll wake up! Ms. Bell, you're all that's left of the company now. If you don't handle it, who will?"
"How am I supposed to handle it? I don't have money either!" Vivian screamed. "Go find Noah! Yes! Find Noah! I don't believe he could be that heartless."
With trembling hands, she reached for her phone on the desk and dialed.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is busy."
She dialed again.
"Sorry, the number you have dialed is busy."
Vivian wouldn't give up. She kept dialing that familiar number over and over.
Until finally, a cold automated message came through. "Sorry, the number you have dialed does not exist."
Noah had blocked her.
Vivian threw her phone hard on the ground. The screen shattered into a spiderweb.
"Why? Why are you doing this to me!"
She held her head, curling up in the chair, her nails digging deep into her scalp.
"No, I can't lose like this."
Vivian suddenly lifted her head, her eyes turning crazy. "I'm the daughter of the Bell family! I can't become broke! I'll go beg him. As long as I'm willing to lower my head, as long as I cry pitifully enough, he'll definitely soften!"
Night fell.
At the entrance of Phoebe's newly bought villa, Noah's car pulled up smoothly.
The car door opened. Noah got out first, then turned around, carefully protecting the roof, and extended his hand.
Phoebe took his hand and slowly got out.
She wore a loose beige trench coat that covered her slightly rounded belly. Her face was bare of makeup, but she looked much better than before.
"I told you there's no need to pick me up and drop me off. I can do it myself," Phoebe said quietly.
"The doctor said you need to move around more, but you can't get tired." Noah held her hand tightly, not giving her a chance to pull away. "Besides, I don't feel comfortable letting you go out alone."
Phoebe pressed her lips together and said nothing more.
Just as they were about to go inside, suddenly, a dark figure rushed out from the nearby bushes.
"Noah! Noah!"
The figure lunged forward, but before getting close, was grabbed by a nearby bodyguard and pinned to the ground.
"Let go of me! I'm Vivian! You stupid idiots!"
Vivian lay on the wet tiles, looking miserable. Her hair was plastered to her face by the rain, her designer dress covered in mud stains, with not a trace of a rich young lady's appearance.
He turned around, his eyes cold.
Noah let out a cold laugh. "What are you doing here?"
Vivian lifted her head with effort. Seeing Phoebe beside Noah, her eyes turned red with jealousy.
Why?
Why could that stupid Phoebe stand beside him, protected by him like a treasure?
While she had to lie on the ground like a dog?
But thinking of Roy in the hospital fighting for his life, thinking of the company about to go bankrupt, Vivian forcibly suppressed the hatred in her heart.
"Noah."
Tears instantly poured from her eyes, putting on that pitiful look again.
"I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong. I shouldn't have targeted Phoebe, shouldn't have been so willful. But, but my family really can't hold on anymore. My dad is dying, and the company is about to collapse. Please, for the sake of our past relationship, let the Bell family go!"
Vivian cried and crawled forward, trying to grab Noah's pant leg.
"Let you go?"
Noah took half a step back, as if avoiding something dirty.
He looked down at Vivian from above, his voice bone-chillingly cold. "Vivian, you bribed people in prison and tortured Phoebe for three whole years. You made her sleep next to the toilet, had people shove her head into the toilet bowl, and poured ice water on her in the dead of winter."
With each sentence, the coldness around Noah grew heavier.
Phoebe stood beside him, listening to these words, her body trembling slightly.
Those were nightmares she didn't want to remember.
Noah sensed her distress and immediately put his arm around her shoulders, holding her close, the warmth from his palm seeping through her clothes.
"Don't be afraid," he whispered in her ear.
Then he looked at Vivian on the ground, his eyes devoid of any emotion.
"Vivian, all the pain you inflicted on Phoebe, I will pay back double. The Bell family going bankrupt is just the beginning."
"No! Don't!"
Vivian completely panicked. She knew Noah meant what he said.
She forgot about dignity and turned around, desperately begging Phoebe for mercy.
Her forehead hit the hard tiles, and blood soon seeped out.
"Phoebe! Please! Please say something for me! It was all my fault before; I was possessed! For Ethan's sake, since he truly cared for you, spare me this once! I'll work like a slave for you, anything!"
"I really have no other way. My dad will die, and I can't survive either."
Vivian cried her heart out, blood from her forehead flowing down, mixing with rain and tears.
Phoebe looked at her.
Right now, she looked like a pitiful wretch.
Phoebe thought she would feel happy, satisfied.
But she didn't.
"Vivian," Phoebe spoke, her voice hoarse.
Vivian froze, looking up with hopeful eyes. "Pheebs."
"Don't call me Pheebs. It disgusts me."
Phoebe looked at her expressionlessly and pointed to her still-aching left leg.
"This leg, even when it heals, will still hurt like hell on rainy days. Can your begging now make up for that pain?"
"Those thousand-plus days and nights I spent in prison, I wanted to die every single day. You've only tasted that feeling for a few days, and you can't take it anymore?"
Phoebe took a step forward, staring at Vivian.
"You say you can't survive? Perfect."
"Go die then."
These words, light as they were, shattered Vivian's last hope.
After saying this, Phoebe didn't spare her another glance. She turned to look at Noah.
"I'm tired. Let's go home."
"Okay."
Noah's eyes softened. He put his arm around her and turned to walk into the villa, not giving Vivian on the ground another look.
The rain grew heavier. Vivian sat slumped on the ground, watching their retreating figures, letting out a miserable laugh.
"Phoebe, Noah, you have such cruel hearts."
"I curse you! I curse you both to die horrible deaths!"
Her voice dissipated in the wind and rain. No one cared.
A bodyguard walked over and simply lifted her up. "Ms. Bell, Mr. White said no one from the Bell family is allowed within five hundred yards of the villa. Please get lost."
With that, he threw her directly into a mud puddle across the street.
A car sped past, splashing dirty water all over Vivian.
She lay in the muddy water, her nails digging into the dirt, her eyes full of hatred.
The rain outside wouldn't stop.
The Bell Group.
The glass door of the CEO's office had a crack from being smashed by debt collectors.
Vivian curled up under the desk, clutching the phone tightly with its shattered screen, listening to the harsh cursing outside.
"Vivian! Come out! Pay your debts!"
"Don't think hiding in there will save you! If you don't pay up, we're going to splash paint everywhere!"
