The Day of Uncertainty

Mitchel was sincerely happy for Ryan, she was happy that he got a job in one of the biggest eateries in town, she knew that the pay will be good and he will be happy not only because of the pay but because cooking was one of his hubbies.

She was also happy for Ivy's relationship with Dan but she was still yet to decide which to choose, either her job or her family. The thought was still lingering in her heart. She had to shake off the feeling of unease and assure herself that she would figure out something.

Her day at the office was blur and then she remembered she agreed to assist Nate with a project and Ben was to assist her. She hoped the meeting won’t take so much time so she could go home and rest, she was really stressed for the day and needed to relax and most importantly see her son Jason.

As the meeting time arrived, Mitchel walked into the conference room. Ben was already sitted waiting for Mitchel and Nate's arrival, and within a few minutes Nate arrived. They spent hours discussing about the project but Mitchel's mind was somewhere else.

Mitchel was lost in thought, and was not sure if she will still be working in the company till the end of the project. She imagined how her life would be if she continued working in the company, the late nights and the weekends she will have to spend in the office, the business trips she will take with Nate and how her absence would affect her relationship with her son, Jason.

As the meeting drew to a close, Nate handed over some files to her.

“I need you to review these files and give me a report before the end of the day”, Nate said.

“Okay sir”, Mitchel said as she stretched her hands to collect the files.

She could not question him, he's her boss and he has the right to give her more work to do at anytime but she was upset, she thought she will be done for the day after the meeting at the conference room but now, she has to review the files Nate handed over to her before leaving the office.

“Hey, how is it going? I can see you still have work to do before you go home”. Ben said noticing the files she was carrying.

Mitchel sighed to relief herself. She felt overwhelmed.

“It's just been a long day for me, I'm not sure I can continue like this”, Mitchel said.

“I know how you feel, considering the fact that you are single mom. This extra hours you will be spending in the office will really affect your son but don't worry I will help you out with some of this files and I'm sure very soon we will figure a way to make this work”. Ben said sympathetically.

Mitchel nodded, she felt a sense of gratitude towards Ben. She handed some files to him before leaving for her office.

She walked into her office and sat down at her desk. She began to review the remaining files left with her. She tried to focus as she dropped the thought of her son and how she has always wants to be there for him. She shifted her focus on the work that was given to her, she had to focus so she will finish on time.

Within a few minutes, she was done with the review and documented her reports. She then left for Ben's office to pick up the files and report.

“Ben are done reviewing the files”, Mitchel asked politely as she walked to Ben's desk.

“Yeah, I'm done. I have reviewed them and here is the reports”. Ben said as he stretched out the files and report for Mitchel to collect.

“I'm really grateful Ben, thanks for your support. Let me hurry and hand them over to Nate. I will be going from there, see you tomorrow “. Mitchel said as she took the files from Ben and walked out of his office.

Mitchel left from Ben's office to Nate's office, but he was not there. She guessed he must have gone home or somewhere else but she was not bored. Mitchel was happy she didn't see him, she didn't want to get into any conversation that would make her spend more time in the office.

Mitchel walked back to her office and picked up her bag, she was greatful that she was done for the day, so she quickly hurried home.

Mitchel got to her apartment and noticed that everywhere was silence. She assumed that Jason was asleep and Ivy was not home so she tiptoed to Jason's room to check on him. She met him asleep.

Mitchel smiled as she felt a sense of relief. She was happy that he was fine and that she can finally take a break from the chaos of the busy day.

Just as she was about to leave Jason's room, her phone rang and the call was from Ivy.

“Hey girl, hope your home now?, I left the house when I noticed Jason was asleep. I'm in the club now with Dan and I don't think I will be coming home tonight”, Ivy said.

“Yeah, just got back from work. Thank you for always looking out for Jason”, Mitchel said with her voice mixed with emotions.

“It's fine bestie, Jason is my son too. You don't have to always thank me for looking after him, I love him so much and taking care of him is not a big deal for me”. Ivy said as she paused to laugh.

“Okay bestie, let me leave you to have fun. I need to rest now, I'm tired. I need some sleep, byee and take care”. Mitchel said before ending the call.

Mitchel smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her friend Ivy. She has always been supportive to her and Jason since they moved into the city.

Mitchel taught about how her and Jason's life were perfect when they moved into the city. She taught of how they bonded and how everything changed the minute she walked into Nate's company and when she was promoted to being his secretary.

Mitchel sighed to r

elief herself as she headed to her bathroom to take a shower.
