The Envelope Secret

Mitchel's hands trembled as she placed her hands on Nate's table to pick up the envelope. Her heart raced so fast as she could hear the sound of her heart beat, she could not help but wonder what the content of the envelope would be all about.

She walked out of Nate's office and went back to her office. After some seconds she took up the boldness to open the envelope, Mitchel dipped her right hand into the flap of the envelope and pulled out the contents.

Mitchel's eyes widened as she was shocked at the words that were written on the paper. It was a contract, listing the new terms of her employment.

She was expected to spend extra two hours everyday in the office, this extra hours will be use to meet up with some target that was listed in the contract.

Deep down in her, she knew it would be impossible for her to beat the target considering the time limits that was given to her. The pay was good but the demands are way too much for her to handle.

Whille she was still lost in thought, she heard a knock on her door,

“Please come in”, Mitchel said as she tried to compose herself.

Ben walked into the office, putting on a worried face,

“Hey Mitchel, I need to talk to you about something very important”, Ben said.

Mitchel nodded, trying to focus on what Ben wants to say.

“What is it?”, Mitchel asked.

Ben waited for some minutes before he answered saying,

“I got a letter from Nate's office. It's about the new terms of my employment. The rules are way too difficult, the rule states that I am to stay an extra two hours daily to meet up with some task that seems almost impossible go achieve within the time frame given and also, the rule stated that I will do doing more travels. I'm just worried, did you get any letter like that?”.

Mitchel eyes snapped back to focus.

“Yes, I got the same letter. It's ridiculous,I don't know how we are going to meet up with those demands considering that we have our own personal activities we have to attend to”. Mitchel said as she held the paper containing the new rules.

Ben walked to her desk and collected th paper from her hands, he glanced through it to be sure it was the same thing with the one he received.

“This is insane, we need to figure out what to do. Nate is becoming unfair”. Ben said as she dropped the paper on Mitchel's desk.

Mitchel nodded, feeling a sense of relief that she was not alone in the new development of her work.

“Let's talk about it, what can we do to overcome this?”, Mitchel asked.

As they discussed about the contract and it's rules, Mitchel felt a bit happy that she was not alone, that will really be a more difficult situation for her if that was the case.

She was happy that she had Ben, with her, atleast with him, they would be able to figure out a solution.

But as they continued in their discussion, Mitchel's mind went back to her son. She wished Ben would come up with a solution, she knew if he don't, her relationship with her son will be at stake.They won't be that close cause she will always come home late and will miss his school event and will not have time to take him out like she use to do.

When Ben left her office, Mitchel felt a sense of disappointment, they were not able to come out with any reasonable solution. She knew she had to make a tough decision and she has to be fast about it.

Mitchel knew she could not do it alone, she needs to talk to someone. She needs someone that would understand her concern and offer her a solution.

Mitchel decided to call Ivy her best friend. Ivy was always there for her to give her listening ears and also a supportive shoulder whenever she was down. She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed her number.

As she waited for Ivy to answer her call, Mitchel felt a sense of anxiety. She knew she was getting to her breaking point, and was scared she do not make a wrong decision.

When ivy answered the phone, Mitchel poured out her heart. She told her about the contract and it's rules, Ben's concern and how the rules will affect her relationship with her son. Ivy listened attentively as she offered her words of encouragement.

When Mitchel finished talking, Ivy said,

“You are not in this alone, Mitchel, we will figure out a solution so cheer up please. And I have a good news to share with you.”

Mitchel became curious, she wondered what Ivy wanted to say,

“What is it?” She asked.

Ivy waited for some seconds before she finally broke the good news.

“Ryan got a new job! He's going to be working in ‘Velito Foods”, one of the biggest eateries in town.”

“Wow, that's amazing. I'm so happy for him”, Mitchel said as her face lit up with a smile.

Yeah, he's really excited. And I have another good news to share, Dan and I are getting serious. He asked me to move in with him”. Ivy said.

“Wow, I'm so happy for you bestie. Congratulations”. Mitchel said.

Ivy blused, looking happy.

“Thanks bestie, I'm really happy with Dan, he is a good guy and I think I will be his wife someday”. Ivy said as she beamed with smile.

As they chatted and laughed, Mitchel felt a bit relief. She realized she wasn't alone and she had friends that care for her and are ever ready to support her.

As they needed the call and she returned back to work. Her mind returned to the contract. She knew she had to make a tough decision whether to choose her job or her wellbeing. She knew that whatever she chose, she will have to face the consequ

ence.

She thought about the what-if. She was confused as she got more scared.
