Chapter 140 Why Not Let Me Go
The warmth on Daniel's handsome face vanished in an instant.
He reached up and gripped Scarlett's chin, lifting her face.
Her eyes were moist and seductive, her cheeks flushed, her lips red and swollen—everywhere bore traces of their intense encounter.
The scent of sex still lingered in the car, and his heart was filled with burning tenderness.
Yet she was still thinking about leaving him!
Daniel felt like she'd dumped a bucket of ice water over his heart—bone-chilling cold that ignited extreme anger.
He suddenly tightened his grip on her jaw, his thin lips curling coldly.
"Back to the airport? I told you, without my permission, you're not going anywhere!"
His grip was a bit too strong. Scarlett frowned in pain, stunned.
"But you just agreed to take me back to the airport?"
She had just told him that after they made love this time, he would take her back to the airport, and she thought he'd agreed by default.
Daniel raised an eyebrow mockingly. "You said that yourself. When did I agree?"
Scarlett was furious. Humiliated and angry, she raised her hand and started pounding on Daniel's chest.
She punched rapidly and urgently. "Daniel, you bastard! You're just a shameless scum, totally unreasonable! You have no heart. If you didn't agree, why did you touch me?"
Her body was soft and weak, with no real force behind her blows.
She looked fierce, but her fists landing on Daniel's body didn't hurt him at all.
He even leaned back lazily against the seat, giving her plenty of space to vent.
"Was I the only one enjoying it just now? Who was crying under me, begging me to go slower and..."
Scarlett's face instantly turned bright red. She covered Daniel's mouth with her hand, saying in embarrassment.
"Stop talking!"
Daniel stared at her intently and kissed her palm.
Daniel's lips and teeth were burning hot. The warmth and the softness of his tongue brushed across her palm. Scarlett tried to pull her hand back in panic.
But Daniel suddenly grabbed her wrist, not letting her pull away.
He kissed her fingers, his movements gentle and endlessly tender.
The fingers are connected to the heart. Scarlett felt each kiss landing on her heart.
Her heart was thrown into chaos by him, complete chaos.
The reluctance and longing she'd barely managed to bury in her heart, along with her love, were easily stirred up by him again.
This was Daniel, whom she'd loved for so many years, from age eight to twenty-two.
Whether it was her love for family, or the gradual transformation from family affection to romantic love.
She had given it all to him! Only to him!
She couldn't remember when this feeling had changed, but she knew that for these fourteen years, her heart and eyes had been full of only him.
She'd loved too long and waited too long, only to be met with emptiness.
She didn't dare hope for that outcome anymore.
But his current crazy entanglement and ambiguous actions gave Scarlett the illusion again.
As if he loved her too.
Scarlett's lips moved, wanting to gather courage to ask one more time.
"You're clinging to me like this—does it mean you can't bear to let me go? Daniel, have you fallen for me?"
Scarlett held her breath, staring at Daniel with hopeful light in her eyes.
Daniel's eyes were deep and dark. "Does it matter? If I said I liked you, would you obediently come back with me, cancel the divorce, and stop making trouble?"
Even though he said "if," Scarlett's heart raced wildly.
She thought, yes, that's right.
Even if he was lying to her, she'd be willing to stay immersed in that beautiful dream and never wake up.
She pressed her dry lips together. Just as she was about to nod, her phone suddenly rang.
It was Scarlett's phone.
When Daniel had pulled off Scarlett's jeans earlier, her phone had fallen in the car. Now it lit up with a glaring light.
Ramon's name flashed on the screen.
Daniel's eyes fell on it. Seeing that name, his face darkened.
Daniel leaned down, picked up the phone with his long fingers, and handed it to Scarlett.
"Answer it first."
Scarlett had no choice but to take the phone and swipe to answer.
"Scarlett, you landed in Majestic City safely, right? I'm still worried about you, so I had my friend meet you at the exit. Go with him to the hotel and rest. I'll be there tomorrow."
This was the time Scarlett's original flight was supposed to land. Ramon obviously thought she'd already arrived in Majestic City.
Scarlett was about to tell Ramon that she hadn't been able to leave at all, but Daniel suddenly snatched the phone away.
"What are you doing..."
Scarlett instinctively tried to grab it back, but Daniel turned off the phone and confiscated it.
He was the one who told her to answer the call, and now he was the one hanging up on her.
Scarlett glared at him angrily. "Ramon kindly sent someone to pick me up. He'll be worried if he can't find me. At least let me explain things clearly!"
So Scarlett really was leaving with Ramon. She was worried Ramon would be anxious and concerned—just look how anxious she was now.
Daniel was both jealous and angry, his whole body radiating displeasure.
"What do you want to tell him? That you didn't go to Majestic City, that you're in my car right now, that you just had sex with me?"
Scarlett's face turned red again. She stopped insisting, but her mind was still on the unfinished topic from before.
She looked at him nervously again. "What you just said about liking me—was it true?"
Daniel sneered coldly. "You left out the word 'if.'"
Having said that, as if annoyed by her pursuing this topic, he rolled down the window, reached out his hand, and snapped his fingers.
The driver's footsteps quickly approached. Scarlett quietly lowered her head.
She moved away from Daniel's embrace and shifted to the sofa seat across from him, looking out the window.
Yes.
She had left out the word "if."
Sure enough, him liking her, loving her, could only happen in a hypothetical situation.
She felt very sad.
Scarlett silently hugged herself, holding tight.
She could feel the strong oppressive presence from Daniel in the car, could feel him staring at her constantly.
His gaze was intense and focused, but Scarlett didn't want to ask anymore.
She didn't want to explore why he had to chase her back.
After all, none of it would be the answer she hoped for.
Daniel gazed at Scarlett with narrowed eyes, a cold smile at the corner of his thin lips.
He'd merely refused to let her talk on the phone with Ramon and confiscated her phone.
And she didn't even want to talk to him anymore, wouldn't even come near him.
She was just great!
The car drove smoothly. Before long, Scarlett unknowingly fell asleep.
She was too tired—exhausted from inside out, body and soul.
Her body gradually slid down, and her head wobbled toward the car window.
Daniel leaned forward in time, reaching out his palm to block the window glass.
Scarlett's head bumped into his palm. Only then did he shift positions to sit beside Scarlett.
He lifted her legs and carefully let her lie on his lap.
Scarlett, in her sleep, was completely unaware. She turned over, pillowing her head on Daniel's thigh to find a more comfortable position, but still murmuring.
"Why won't you let me go, Daniel, you big jerk."
Daniel looked down at Scarlett.
A tear slowly slid from the corner of her eye. Daniel's heart tightened. He reached up and gently wiped it away with his fingertip.
"You want to escape from me even in your dreams? Too bad, Scarlett, you've missed your chance."
Before, he'd thought about letting go, even tried to let go.
That's why he'd registered the divorce with her, but he discovered he simply couldn't do it.
Now that she was carrying their child, she had even less of a chance.
Even if she found it torturous, he could never soften his heart and let her go again!
