Chapter 108 The Couple's Affection and Righteousness Have Been Severed
"Where are you taking James? He's my only son. I'm counting on James to wake up and take care of me in my old age. James can't go anywhere!"
Natalia sat on the hospital bed, holding onto James and refusing to let go.
Natalia's brother Marc blocked Scarlett's way.
"Scarlett, you're really out of line here. James is Natalia's biological son. He's already in this condition, and you still want to secretly take him abroad. What if something happens on the plane, or if James's body can't handle it overseas? Natalia wouldn't even get to see James one last time!"
Marc's wife Susan Murray nodded, pulling at Scarlett's arm as she spoke earnestly.
"Scarlett, I know you're a good kid who values loyalty. You've taken on the burden of caring for James and want to take him abroad for treatment. That's not easy, but you have to think about Natalia too. If James were awake, he definitely wouldn't want to leave Natalia behind."
Sarah stayed by Scarlett's side. Seeing them blocking the hospital bed, she sneered coldly.
"You all talk such a good game. Do you ever actually visit James? You say you're James's mother, but you only come to the hospital once every month or two. Marc and Susan, have you visited James even once this whole year? Now that Scarlett wants to take James abroad for better treatment, you all suddenly show up. What are you trying to do?"
Sarah wished she could take an axe and split open their hearts to see if they were black inside.
How could they be so calculating?
"You can't say it like that, young lady. We're all ordinary people living hard lives. We work from dawn to dusk to make money. Sure, we think about James, but we don't have loads of free time like Scarlett, the wife of the Wilson family heir, to come to the hospital and put on a show. We want to help but can't."
Susan said with a bitter expression on her face.
Not only was Susan talking nonsense, but she was also implying that Scarlett came to the hospital just to put on an act.
Sarah was furious. Rolling up her sleeves, she said, "You won't leave? Fine, I'll throw you out one by one!"
"Someone come quick, call security! Someone's causing trouble in the hospital room!"
Susan sat right down on the floor and even started rolling around next to James's hospital bed.
Scarlett held Sarah back. Her face was cold as she looked at the three of them and asked.
"Just tell me, what do you want?"
They were acting this way because they had conditions to negotiate. Scarlett wanted to hear them out.
Natalia let go of James and looked at Scarlett.
"Scarlett is smart after all. Actually, it's not that I can't let James go with you. He's my son, and as his mother, I'm the one who most hopes and wishes for him to wake up. But you two are my only children. If you both leave, how am I supposed to..."
Scarlett didn't want to watch her act. She interrupted impatiently.
"Stop the act. Get to the point."
"Ten million dollars! Give me ten million dollars for my retirement, and you can take James." Natalia stated.
"Ten million dollars? Are you crazy? You're greedy beyond belief, living in a fantasy world. Do you think Scarlett is an ATM? You push the sick James onto Scarlett and want ten million dollars in exchange to go live it up. You Ruth family people really know how to scheme. Aren't you afraid of divine punishment?"
Sarah was furious, almost sick from the disgusting greed on the Ruth family's faces.
Scarlett hadn't expected Natalia to ask for so much money. She said coldly, "I don't have money. If you don't believe me, you can check my bank information. Forget ten million dollars, I don't even have one million dollars."
Scarlett really didn't have money. Paying back that thirty million dollars to the Wilson family had already drained her.
The money she had left was barely enough for her to go abroad, to rent a place and scrape by for a month.
How could she possibly give any more to support these Ruth family people who only wanted something for nothing?
"How can you not have money? You're Daniel's wife. Even if the divorce didn't get you ten billion dollars, you must have at least one billion!"
Marc looked completely unconvinced. Thinking about it this way, he felt like ten million dollars was too little.
Susan also got up from the floor and rolled up James's right sleeve.
"Scarlett, James used to care about you the most. Look at this scar—it's from when he protected you from John, right? Such a long scar. James bled a lot back then. You're not going to be stingy about this ten million dollars now, are you?"
There was a particularly shocking scar on James's right arm, running from his forearm all the way to his armpit.
James had indeed taken that hit for Scarlett.
James had been lying there for over a year. His body was weak, and muscle atrophy made that wound look even more gruesome and ugly.
Scarlett didn't want James to lie there being manipulated by Susan like this, suffering such humiliation. Her eyes turned cold.
"Don't touch James!"
Scarlett suddenly stepped forward and forcefully pulled Susan away.
Susan staggered back a few steps, her lower back hitting the corner of the table. She screamed.
Marc, seeing Susan hurt, flew into a rage and swung his hand to hit Scarlett.
Sarah had been by Scarlett's side the whole time. How could she let him succeed? She kicked out and sent the not-so-thin Marc flying.
For a moment, the hospital room was in complete chaos.
The Wilson Group CEO's office.
Daniel wore a dark gray suit, looking refined and distinguished. His expression was normal as he sat behind his desk, seemingly handling company business like any other day.
However, what lay open in front of him wasn't any official document.
It was a planner.
The one Scarlett had thrown at him yesterday. In the planner, Scarlett's familiar handwriting recorded her daily routine, work plans, and each source of income, line by line.
Page after page, line after line—all the hard work she'd put in during this time.
Each accumulated sum was indeed money Scarlett had earned through her own hard work.
Deep down, he had still thought of her as that poor little thing who couldn't survive without the Wilson family.
He had underestimated her too much.
Scarlett was far more capable than he'd thought, and far more heartless.
This money, not easily earned, also showed Scarlett's determination to leave him.
Daniel's fingers gripping the planner pages were so tight his knuckles turned white.
Just then, Tom suddenly pushed the door open.
Daniel calmly closed the planner and put it in the drawer.
He looked up. "What is it?"
Tom had been on edge since yesterday, afraid that one wrong word would get him into trouble.
But actually, from yesterday until now, Daniel's emotions had been quite stable—so calm it didn't seem like he'd just gotten divorced.
Yet the calmer he was, the more terrifying Tom found it.
Tom felt like he was walking on thin ice, truly experiencing what it meant in ancient times to serve a ruler like serving a tiger.
Especially since what he had to report now was related to Scarlett. He didn't even know if he should report it.
But if he didn't, Tom was afraid the consequences would be even worse.
He had it so hard.
"Um, it's about Ms. Lewis, she..."
"Ms. Lewis? Which Ms. Lewis?"
Before Tom could finish, Daniel coldly interrupted.
But from Daniel's reaction, Tom understood everything. He immediately spoke more smoothly.
"It's about Ms. Scarlett Lewis. The hospital called to say that Mrs. Natalia Lewis brought her brother Marc and his family to Mr. James Lewis's hospital room to cause trouble, and they got into a physical fight with Scarlett."
Last time when James almost had his medication and equipment cut off and was nearly kicked out of the hospital, Daniel had instructed the hospital to contact him immediately if anything happened.
That's why the hospital called Tom right away this time.
Tom breathed a sigh of relief after speaking, but still felt uncertain.
Scarlett had insisted on divorcing and going abroad, and now they'd registered the divorce.
Would Daniel still care about her affairs?
And about Scarlett going abroad—Daniel clearly had ten thousand ways to stop her, but these past few days, he really hadn't done anything.
Could it be that Daniel had truly cut all ties with Scarlett and was just letting her leave like this?
