Chapter 109 Scarlett Must Leave Shadow City
# Hospital Ward
Sarah kicked Marc away and shielded Scarlett.
"Scarlett, are you okay?"
Scarlett shook her head at Sarah. Meanwhile, Marc fell to the ground, clutching his chest and screaming in pain.
"Marc, what's wrong?" Natalia ran over.
"Natalia, I think that bitch broke my ribs! It hurts so bad! We need to demand more medical expenses from them!"
Marc clutched his chest, glaring angrily at Scarlett.
Susan also held her lower back and sat on the ground, making a scene. "My back is hurt too! Scarlett, you need to pay at least another million dollars in medical fees!"
The commotion in the ward had already attracted onlookers at the door, some recording videos on their phones.
Susan cried out to the crowd, pointing at Scarlett. "Everyone, look! This daughter of my husband's sister—her brother is lying in bed as a vegetable, and her mom is counting on her for support. But now that she's married rich, she won't care whether her mother lives or dies. She won't pay a cent for support and wants to leave the country and never come back."
Susan grabbed Natalia beside her. "Natalia, how unlucky you are! How did you raise such a heartless daughter!"
Marc stood up holding the wall, blocking Scarlett's way.
"Scarlett, if you won't support Natalia, fine—she's my sister, and I'll take care of her as her brother. But you can't refuse to give any living expenses at all. Tell me, is what she's doing right?"
The onlookers had no idea what was really going on.
Seeing Natalia and the others crying and hurt, and James lying unconscious in the hospital bed, they immediately felt sorry for Natalia. They started pointing at Scarlett, cursing and criticizing her.
"She's dressed pretty well. If she has money to go abroad, how can she not support her parents?"
"Your parents worked hard to raise you. You can't just think about your own good life."
"Right, she must pay support. Otherwise, they can sue her!"
"Natalia, don't worry. If Scarlett refuses to pay support, I'll post the video online and make her look bad even after she leaves the country!"
They pointed and gestured, filled with righteous anger.
Someone produced an egg from somewhere and threw it at Scarlett.
"Won't even support your own mother—what scum!"
"Scarlett, watch out!"
Sarah shielded Scarlett. The egg hit Sarah's head and broke, sticky mess dripping down.
"Serves her right! So satisfying! Too bad it didn't hit Scarlett in the face."
In the hospital parking lot, Alice sat in her car holding her phone, watching a live stream of the scene in the ward.
Alice had asked Natalia to cause trouble, and of course she wanted to watch it herself. She had arranged for someone to livestream it and even bought some traffic to boost it.
The stream now had decent viewership—tens of thousands watching online, with comments cursing Scarlett.
[This woman looks pretty good, but she's so heartless—won't care for her brother or mother, and even beats her elders!]
[Someone like this, no matter how good-looking, is just scum]
[Carrying a bag worth tens of thousands of dollars but won't support her parents, cold-hearted toward her sick brother—go to hell!]
[Looking like that, obviously a homewrecker]
Alice was thrilled seeing the angry comments flooding the stream.
Scarlett and Daniel had already registered their divorce. Daniel definitely wouldn't deal with Scarlett's mess anymore.
Even if Scarlett left the country, she wouldn't leave comfortably—she'd have to scurry out of Shadow City like a rat!
The livestream continued.
In the ward, Scarlett pulled Sarah aside, anxiously checking her head.
"Sarah, are you okay?"
"I'm fine, fine. It's just an egg, not a rock. But seriously, why did it have to be a rotten egg!"
Sarah touched the egg liquid on her hand, smelled the stench, and nearly gagged.
But Scarlett's expression changed—something felt very wrong.
How did Natalia and the others know she was going abroad and show up at the hospital so timely?
And if it wasn't planned, how could someone just happen to have a rotten egg?
Even the medical staff trying to maintain order were blocked by the crowd and couldn't get in.
Scarlett's sharp gaze swept toward the doorway, settling on the tall figure of Kirk.
While others held phones to record, Kirk was using a livestream stand.
Just then, Natalia stepped forward looking distressed, grabbed Scarlett's hand, blocking her view, and cried.
"Scarlett, you're my child! You can't just leave me like this. If you do, I'll call the police like these people are saying."
Scarlett forcefully pulled her hand free from Natalia's grip and said loudly, "Fine! Let the police come and decide how much support I should pay and whether I can take James away."
Scarlett turned to Sarah and whispered, "I think someone's livestreaming this."
Sarah quickly caught on. She pushed past Marc and Susan blocking their way and went to the door, calling out loudly to the crowd.
"You've all been fooled by them! This woman is no loving mother! My friend and her brother grew up hungry and beaten. James has been in a vegetative state for over a year, and my friend has been paying all the medical bills and taking care of him. This woman only asks my friend for money and doesn't come to the hospital more than once every month or two!
Now that she heard my friend wants to take James abroad, she's afraid she won't get any more money, so she brought her brother's family to make trouble! They're demanding ten million dollars from my friend—this isn't asking for support, it's extortion! If you don't believe me, ask the nurses!"
Hearing Sarah's words, a family member from a nearby ward spoke up.
"That's right. I'm from the next ward, and I often see that young lady visiting her brother."
"I saw her once when paying fees. But this mother looks completely unfamiliar."
Kirk, who was livestreaming, saw the situation turning and quickly tried to close the stream and run.
Sarah pushed through the crowd, grabbed Kirk's shoulder, dragged him into the ward, pressed him against the wall, and snatched his phone.
Unfortunately, the livestream had already been closed.
"What are you doing! Give me back my phone!" Kirk panicked.
Sarah elbowed him hard in the chest, making him too hurt to grab for the phone.
Sarah let go, and Kirk slid down the wall clutching his aching chest.
Sarah sneered, "Love livestreaming so much, why close it? I'll be nice and keep it going for you."
She reopened the livestream.
The viewers had been watching intently when the stream suddenly cut off, and they hadn't dispersed yet.
Seeing the stream reopen, they all rushed back in.
Sarah pointed the camera at the nurse's name badge.
"Please tell them."
"The patient in bed 23 has indeed been cared for by Ms. Lewis. Ms. Lewis comes every two or three days. I've barely seen Mrs. Lewis twice, and these so-called relatives—today is my first time seeing them."
"The patients here are very weak and need complete rest! You're crowding here making noise—if anything happens to the patient, can you handle the consequences?"
Just then, a tall figure strode over quickly, speaking sternly to the noisy crowd.
