Chapter 107 Bitterly Weeping and Begging to Stay
Scarlett's explanation came to an abrupt halt, and she felt a tightness in her chest.
She and Daniel had just filed for divorce, and Daniel couldn't wait to tell Alice already?
Even though she desperately wanted the divorce, she didn't want to see Alice, the other woman, right after filing.
At least today, she should get the respect she deserved from Daniel, right?
"Since you're so eager, you should've just agreed to it earlier." Scarlett let out a cold laugh and started to walk away.
But Daniel grabbed her wrist. "You think I asked them to come?"
Scarlett didn't respond, just tried to pull her hand away.
"Let go of me. We're divorced now. Mr. Wilson, please show some restraint."
Before she could finish, Daniel wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace.
"What are you doing?"
Scarlett struggled, but Daniel lowered his head close to her ear, his voice low and carrying a hint of wicked teasing.
"Need to remind you—we filed for divorce, but we're not officially divorced yet. And right now, you're still my wife!"
Scarlett gritted her teeth, unable to break free, and gave up struggling.
At that moment, Blair and Alice had already approached them.
"Daniel, are you two... divorced?" Blair asked, suppressing her excitement while furrowing her brow with a concerned expression.
Daniel looked at Blair and Alice with cold indifference. "Why are you here?"
"I went back to The Wilson Mansion today and happened to see Tom going back for documents. I was worried, so I followed. Alice called me on the way—she was so worried too, so we came together."
Daniel let out a cold laugh, full of mockery.
Blair's face darkened, clearly thinking Daniel was mocking her.
But Scarlett knew Daniel's scornful laugh was directed at her, because his grip on her waist tightened.
She had indeed misunderstood him. He was angry now, so Scarlett didn't want to provoke him further and stayed still in Daniel's arms.
Mainly because Alice looked so eager and excited—Scarlett didn't want to see her gloating.
"Daniel, you and Scarlett should both think this through. Don't act impulsively. Being husband and wife isn't easy. Many couples don't have love, but they still support each other. Scarlett, is it because of me? You've really misunderstood. There's nothing between Daniel and me. I never meant to replace you..."
Alice's acting was more polished than Blair's. Her eyes reddened, looking distressed—if you didn't know better, you'd think she was the one getting divorced.
Watching Blair and Alice's performance, Scarlett felt mischievous. She smiled sweetly.
Her body went soft as she nestled into Daniel's embrace, wrapping her arms around his waist and interrupting Alice.
"I'm so touched. Don't worry, everyone. Daniel can't bear to leave me. He was just crying his heart out in front of the mediator, begging me to stay. So we didn't get divorced. I've decided to give Daniel another chance."
Alice and Blair's expressions froze instantly, like they'd been struck by lightning.
Scarlett burst out laughing. "Just kidding! Look how scared you are."
Blair's face filled with anger. "Scarlett!"
Tears fell from Alice's eyes as she pulled at Blair, maintaining her act.
"Mrs. Wilson, Scarlett is angry with me and just teasing me. Please don't be upset. If you get sick from anger, it'll all be my fault."
Scarlett was tired of watching their performance. She withdrew her arms from around Daniel and stepped out of his embrace, waving dismissively.
"Business is done. I'll be going now."
Without another glance at Blair and Alice, she walked away.
Daniel's eyes darkened as he watched Scarlett's carefree, departing figure. His hand at his side clenched slightly, his handsome face cold.
"Daniel, look at her! No grace, no virtue, no manners at all. A woman like that—it's better to be divorced. Alice is pregnant with your child. You two should hurry up and get your marriage certificate before her belly gets too big. Oh, did you ask the staff when you can come back to register your marriage?"
Blair, having been exposed by Scarlett without any face-saving, stopped pretending.
Alice's heart pounded like a drum. She blushed and lowered her head, filled with anticipation.
Scarlett was just a fake heiress. Everything Scarlett had was because she'd once taken over Alice's life.
What right did Scarlett have to marry someone as outstanding as Daniel and act so smug in front of her?
Now that Scarlett was divorced, Daniel would be hers.
As Scarlett's figure disappeared, Daniel finally turned to look at Blair.
"Didn't Scarlett just say I was crying and begging her to stay? The divorce didn't go through. Since we're not divorced, what marriage would I be registering?"
His expression was cold, showing no sign of joking, yet his words seemed too serious.
Blair was stunned again, and even Alice looked up in shock.
Daniel's eyes were unreadable.
Alice bit her lip, suppressing her impatience, when she suddenly noticed Daniel's right hand and cried out.
"Daniel, your hand is injured! Let me see. How did this happen?"
Blair looked over too, her expression changing.
Daniel's right hand was indeed bleeding. He was clenching his fist, so they couldn't see how bad the injury was.
"What happened?" Blair was concerned about Daniel.
Alice had already stepped forward anxiously to grab Daniel's hand, but he raised it away from her.
Without finishing his sentence, a flash of self-mockery crossed his eyes as he strode toward the exit.
The wound on his palm was from the broken bank card earlier—a shallow cut that had already stopped bleeding in the car. He'd forgotten about the pain until reminded.
Now that it was pointed out, he felt the pain and realized he'd clenched his fist so hard that the wound had reopened.
But Scarlett had been with him the whole way and never noticed his injury.
After filing for divorce, she really had become blind to him.
"Daniel?"
Blair called out, but Daniel's back remained cold as he walked away without turning around. Blair frowned.
"It must be because of that Scarlett again—she's a disaster! But what did Daniel mean just now? Did they actually divorce or not?"
This is so frustrating!
Alice desperately wanted to know too. She comforted Blair while reassuring herself.
"With Daniel's personality, how could he cry and beg Scarlett to stay in front of a mediator? They must be divorced. Mrs. Wilson, wait here. I'll go ask at the window and we'll know for sure."
Ten minutes later, Alice got the answer she wanted.
After dropping Blair off and spending the whole ride being sweet and flattering until Blair was happy—almost ready to have Alice call her "Mom"—Alice finally left, satisfied.
On the way back, thinking of Scarlett's arrogant behavior earlier, Alice's face darkened.
What right did Scarlett have to still be smiling?
That bitch Scarlett!
Alice's eyes turned cold as she pulled out her phone and called Natalia.
"Natalia, Scarlett and Daniel filed for divorce today. And Scarlett has been accepted as a student by the world-renowned dancer Vivienne and is about to go abroad to study. You didn't know about any of this, did you?"
On the other end, Natalia's shrill, anxious voice immediately rang out.
"What? Divorce? Study abroad? That bitch Scarlett! She didn't tell me anything—ungrateful thing! She wants to abandon me and go abroad to enjoy life by herself!"
Alice sighed. "Natalia, even if Scarlett doesn't care about you, she can't ignore James, right? If she goes abroad and doesn't come back, what will happen to James..."
Natalia was already heading out to find Scarlett. She absolutely couldn't let Scarlett just fly away like this.
Without that connection to Scarlett, how would she get into The Wilson Mansion in the future? Where would she get money?
But Scarlett wasn't easy to manipulate—she was cold-hearted and stubborn, completely indifferent to Natalia's struggles. Getting money from Scarlett was harder than climbing to heaven.
Hearing Alice's words now, Natalia's eyes lit up with an idea.
The next day, Scarlett arrived at the hospital early in the morning. She'd talked with Ramon on the phone last night and arranged to handle James's transfer procedures today.
James had also contacted the medical team in Astoria. They would immediately send medical personnel to handle James's transfer abroad and monitor his vital signs throughout the journey.
But Scarlett didn't expect that even the transfer procedures wouldn't go smoothly.
Natalia, who rarely visited James, had arrived early with her brother Marc Ruth and his whole family, camping out in the hospital room and blocking Scarlett from taking James away.
