Chapter 106 Registered for Divorce
Scarlett's eyelashes fluttered slightly, but she smiled and said, "I was just thinking, I tied your tie once before. Do you still remember?"
Daniel's Adam's apple bobbed. Of course he remembered, but that wasn't what he wanted to hear.
He felt utterly disappointed and said coldly, "I don't remember."
Scarlett smiled bitterly to herself. She knew it—he must have forgotten.
After all, it was ten years ago.
That day was his coming-of-age ceremony. Daniel, the future heir of the Wilson family, had come of age—a significant milestone.
It marked that the Wilson family's future leader had truly grown up and was ready to shoulder heavy responsibilities and begin his era.
Naturally, the ceremony had to be grand and formal, full of ritual.
The Wilson family had been preparing for three months, and it was then that she had pestered Daniel, wanting to help him tie his tie on such an important day.
When she asked, he agreed without a second thought.
For this, she asked the servants for advice, learned from videos, and practiced on a mannequin, determined to tie the most beautiful knot for Daniel.
Finally, the day of the ceremony arrived. He put on his custom-made tailcoat, looking dignified and spirited, as if overnight he had transformed from a big boy into a man.
She took the tie, pushed open the door, and ran into the room. When she saw Daniel standing by the window, she was stunned for a moment—he seemed both unfamiliar and yet something vague and tender began to grow in her heart.
He waved to her, showing his familiar smile, and only then did she nervously walk up to him with a flushed face.
She was incredibly nervous. The key issue was that after being mistreated by John for two years, her growth had been delayed. Even though she was already in middle school, her body still looked like an elementary school student's.
She stood on her tiptoes as hard as she could, almost jumping, but still couldn't reach Daniel's neck to put the tie around it.
The servants standing nearby were all laughing, and she blushed with embarrassment.
"Daniel, you're doing this on purpose! Bend down!" she cried anxiously.
He suddenly laughed, and then he bent down.
But not in the way she expected—he bent down and picked her up, raising his eyebrows.
"Alright, I'm done teasing you."
She had practiced well, but somehow she was so flustered that she tied it wrong twice in a row.
Blair was getting impatient waiting and came over to check. When she entered and saw that scene, she immediately got angry and said sternly.
"What day is today! What does this look like! Put her down right now, I'll do it."
Scarlett lowered her head in shame and disappointment, but Daniel didn't put her down. Instead, he lifted her up a bit more and said.
"Go ahead and tie it, no rush."
She still remembers his gentle and affectionate tone from that moment.
She cheered up and gathered courage to continue tying his tie.
Blair said angrily, "Where have you seen a sister tie her brother's tie? That's something a wife should do. Your future wife won't be happy about this either. Even though you're not blood-related, you..."
Blair's words were cut off by Daniel's sharp look.
He said casually, "Mother is making too much of nothing. A wife who can't accept Scarlett isn't worth having. Besides, if I, Daniel, want to let Scarlett tie my tie, she can do it for a lifetime. Who dares to question it?"
Those few words made Blair so angry she got a headache and left holding her head.
But later...
Scarlett became his wife, yet he refused to come home.
Scarlett never expected that as his wife, the only time she would tie his tie would be under such circumstances.
So at this moment, she tied it very carefully and very slowly.
Like a child about to become homeless, secretly saving one last precious piece of cake for herself.
But Daniel suddenly raised his hand, pulled the tie from Scarlett's hands, and said coldly.
"That's enough. If you don't want to be Mrs. Wilson, don't do what Mrs. Wilson should do."
After Daniel spoke, he opened the car door and got out first.
Scarlett felt the silk tie slip through her fingers. She instinctively tried to grasp it, but caught nothing.
Tom arrived fairly quickly. Daniel got the documents and went into the court with Scarlett.
Driver Oscar came up to them. "Mr. Wilson, I got a number in advance. It's almost our turn."
Tom followed behind, looking at Oscar with disbelief, feeling a bit sorry for him.
Tom hadn't expected that even though he'd been foolish enough today, there was still someone to take the fall below him.
Oscar was truly his good friend.
Daniel showed no extra emotion. He pulled the paper from Oscar's hand and led Scarlett to the window.
But that very night, Daniel transferred Oscar to another position. Of course, that's a story for later.
At this moment, Della at the divorce window looked at the exceptionally attractive Scarlett and Daniel standing before her with regret.
They were so well-matched. Forget everything else, their babies would be beautiful too.
"Are you two really sure? Why don't you go over there and talk to our mediator..."
Before Della could finish, Scarlett and Daniel spoke almost simultaneously.
"We've decided."
"No need."
Della sighed. Seeing how determined they both were, she couldn't say much more.
Scarlett and Daniel had no children, and the divorce agreement was already signed.
But when Della looked at the divorce agreement, she immediately got angry.
What was with this divorce agreement? Not only did Daniel not give Scarlett any assets, but Scarlett also paid out thirty million dollars.
Della's look at Daniel immediately lost its appreciation and regret, becoming disgusted and sharp. She asked Scarlett again.
"Girl, did you really sign this divorce agreement voluntarily?"
Scarlett nodded. "Yes, voluntarily."
Della didn't believe it. "Girl, don't be afraid. If someone threatened or forced you, you can tell me."
Daniel's face darkened. Scarlett felt both amused and helpless, quickly waving her hands. "No, no, really not."
No?
Then Della understood. Who would have thought that Daniel, a man with such a strong presence, actually lived off women and even took such a large sum from Scarlett in the divorce.
There really are all kinds of people.
Della's attitude changed completely. She immediately processed everything for Scarlett and Daniel, then said.
"Thirty-day cooling-off period. During this time, if either spouse changes their mind, they can withdraw the divorce application. After thirty days, you can come get the divorce certificate."
Della explained the procedure clearly and handed back the documents.
Scarlett asked, "I'm going abroad in a couple of days. Does the person have to come in person to get the divorce certificate? Can a friend pick it up for me?"
As soon as she asked this, the air pressure around Daniel clearly dropped even lower.
He looked down at her, his voice seeming to squeeze through his teeth. "Scarlett, are you being this casual even about divorce?"
Scarlett felt a bit guilty. She had actually checked online—the divorce certificate had to be collected in person.
But first, she would already be abroad by then, and coming back would be too much trouble.
Second, she was afraid her belly would be showing by then and Daniel would find out.
That's why she asked despite her reluctance.
But Della shook her head. "After the cooling-off period, you must come in person to collect it. No one can pick it up for you."
Scarlett was a bit disappointed and nodded.
But Della suddenly gave Scarlett a reminder, saying, "Girl, next time you choose a husband, keep your eyes open. You can't just look at the face."
Living off women and being so fierce—what kind of attitude was that?
Scarlett fell silent.
Daniel laughed coldly and turned to leave first, his back incredibly cold.
Scarlett smiled awkwardly and explained, "Thank you, but it really was my own decision not to take anything. He's not the kind of man who cheats women out of money like you think. Please don't misunderstand him."
Even in divorce, Scarlett didn't want Daniel to be looked down upon.
She turned and quickly chased after him.
Della stared at their backs, thinking what a strange couple.
Could it be that Scarlett had an affair?
Scarlett felt it was her fault that Daniel was being looked down upon by Della. Feeling somewhat guilty, she caught up with Daniel.
"Daniel, don't be upset. I already explained to that lady. I..."
But before she could finish, she saw Blair and Alice walking over.
