Chapter 94 94
Since Brooke's first encounter with the motorcyclist, no other threat has come her way. That did not stop Nathan from always telling the bodyguards to be very vigilant all the time.
The hospital also played their part in giving Brooke protection in the way they can. She no longer uses the hospital general driveway. She is now giving access to a guarded route meant for emergency ambulance service. This was the administrative decision after what had happened to her.
That evening , Brooke was on her way home, sitting at the back of the car. Her phone was fixed on her ear, which shows she is on a call at the moment. Her eyes roaming on the streets.
"I am fine, Nathan. Brooke always, no harm has come my way still." She assured him. Because that was a question that Nathan always asked when they were on call.
"Good. Who are the ones with you now?" Nathan asked on the other line.
"Matteo and Andrew." Brooke reported. "I have spoken with Terry. Him and Ricardo picked up Liam a few hours earlier from school."
"Yes, I called them too." Nathan confirmed.
"Just to confirm, Matteo and Andrew are the ones with you, right?" Nathan asked again.
With a furrowed brow, Brooke answered. "Yes, I just told you that. Why?"
"I have mapped their schedule so I just wanted to confirm." Nathan said.
"Ok." Brooke said.
"Let me see them." Nathan requested.
"What?"
"Put me on a video call. I want to see and confirm that they are doing their job right." Nathan insisted. His voice was stern and Brooke was too tired to argue.
"Fine. I am as safe as I can be, just so you know." She said and changed the call to a video call. Her face was the first to show on the video call. Before she could change it to the back camera, Nathan spoke.
"You look really tired. You need to get some sleep soon." Nathan complained.
"I will do that. I just had an early operation today and I have been busy with other work since then." Brooke explained.
She then raised her hand to change her phone to back the camera. So that he can see Matteo and Andrew when Nathan interrupts again.
"Who was that?"
"What? Where?" Brooke turned her back but there was no one. Only another car that was a few meters away from them.
"I thought I saw someone behind." Nathan said again.
"There is no one there. Nathan, you are making me paranoid." Brooke warned.
"I am sorry. Maybe I just thought I saw something." Nathan said.
"Now, let me show you Matteo and Andrew -"
"That won't be necessary. I am sure they are with you." Nathan interrupted her. "I am glad I spoke with you. I would also like to speak with Liam when you get home. Take care and get some rest." He added before ending the call.
Brooke just shook her head. It was after the call she realized what Nathan did there. He played her well and got his way. He knew that she wouldn't agree to a video call with her. That was why he used the bodyguards as an excuse to see her. She chuckled lightly.
Later that night.
Liam is sitting on his bed and Brooke's phone is held in his hand as he spoke into the phone.
"When are you coming back, daddy? I miss you so much." Liam said with pouty lips. He then turned to his side, giving his back to his mother. His way of preventing her from taking the phone too early From him.
"As soon as I can, buddy. I really missed you too." Nathan answered.
The father and son always had a video call before Liam went to sleep. But that night, Brooke was really exhausted and wanted to get some sleep early too as well.
"I think we should call it a night, Nathan. Liam has school tomorrow and I am exhausted." She said on the phone.
"No, not yet please mommy. I missed daddy so much. I want to talk to him some more. What can't we go and be with him in Silverbrook?" Liam turned to his mother and spoke with a sad expression.
Liam's last statement was going to be another topic for discussion if she insists further. So she decided to give up.
"I am so tired right now, Liam. I need to sleep. When you are done, bring the phone to my room. Don't forget to plug it in to charge." Brooke instructed.
"Ok, mommy. I will. Thank you." Liam answered with excitement.
Brooke kissed his head. "Don't be too long. I love you. Goodnight."
"Goodnight Bee. Rest well." Nathan spoke.
"Goodnight." She said back.
"Goodnight mommy. I love you." Liam said.
Brooke smiled as she got off Liam's bed. "Love you sweetie."
"Love you, mommy." Liam repeated.
"Love you."
"I love you more."
"No, I love you more."
"Daddy says I love you too."
"I love y-" Brooke stopped mid sentence. She was about to exit the room when the mother and son were saying 'i love you' back and forth. Turning it into play. But Brooke was almost tricked by her eight year old boy.
She could hear him chuckle. "Daddy says he loves you, mommy." Liam said it again when he didn't get a response for the first one.
She stood quiet for a moment at the door before finally saying something. "Goodnight sweetie. If you are not able to bring my phone, you shouldn't worry about it. I will just get it later on." Brooke instructed before finally leaving the room. She went to her room and immediately went to bed. After all, she was very sleepy.
Later that night, Brooke was awoken by the sound of the heavy downpour. She got up and went to Liam's room to check on him.
Immediately she walked into the room, she was met with what touched her heart deeply. At that moment, all she could feel was guilt. Guilt of being the reason for her son being away from his father.
