Chapter 19 Chapter 19
"Don't think I didn't know about how you made Brooke believe that we are leaving together. Why on earth would you say that to her?" Nathan said in an angry tone.
'Oh no! He knows. That bitch of a maid. I will make sure to get back at her for exposing me to him.' Keren thought silently. But at the moment, she has to find a way to defend herself.
"Nathan, I - I am sorry. I wasn't thinking." She used a very innocent voice.
"Clearly you were not. Maybe I once had the Idea that we would be a thing but I assure you I don't have that feeling anymore. I just want to be free from all the relationship things. I am telling you this so that you don't go further spreading the rumor that we are in a relationship, because we are not." Nathan said before scrolling through his phone again. The investigator had forwarded the video to him.
"I wonder if your story about the assault actually happened or if it is one of your schemes." Nathan said. At that moment, he was really confused about what to think of Keren.
'Oh no! Now this is all messed up.' Keren thought. She had everything planned out. Acting to commit suicide was supposed to be a huge step. The plan was to make Nathan feel guilty and run to her. Then they will finally be together forever with no one coming between them.
Now Nathan is coming up with things she didn't think through.
"Nathan, I - I am so sorry. I love you. That is why I did all that. I know I have gone too far with it all but I cannot help it, seeing another woman coming between us. The worst was, you seemed to start getting attached to her. Until I made you realize who you really want. We can be together now, just as it supposed to be -"
"Attached to her?" Nathan questioned.
"Yeah. I mean, back in college, you kept talking about her and you always couldn't wait to come back home to see her." Keren continued.
"All I wanted was for Brooke to understand that we belonged together. Even though you were forced into marriage with her."
"It helped because it made her sign the divorce papers." Keren said.
Nathan looked at her in utter surprise. How could she be defending her actions in such a way.
"You can't be serious, Keren. Is that your excuse for your actions? Provoking Brooke into signing the divorce papers? If that is your explanation for that, I can't wait to hear what you have to say about this." Nathan spoke, going through his phone. He played the video his private investigator had just forwarded to him. He turned it towards Keren.
"I can't wait to hear what you have to say about this. You already claimed you walked for a while from the club to get a cab. But there you are outside the club with a group of teenage boys."
"Nathan -" Keren began but Nathan was quick to stop her.
"Maybe I never liked the idea of my forced marriage to Brooke. But one thing is for sure. She was always honest and pure in her actions. I might not like it then, but it was honest. As for you, I cannot say the same. You seem to have a lot of schemes on your sleeves and a lot of manipulations you keep planning." He shook his head.
"I have forwarded this to the police. For your own sake, I hope your story checks out, one way or the other." He added.
Before Keren could try to explain anything or defend herself, Nathan got up and walked out of the room.
Keren was left there frozen in her stance. She was in shock and couldn't believe how things escalated in such a small amount of time.
"He cannot find out. If he does, I am dead. I have to get out of here." Keren kept blabbing as she got up from the hospital bed. She removed the IV attached to her wrist and got up abruptly.
She was so glad that the housekeeper Nathan hired for her left a pair of clothes for her in the hospital wardrobe. She changed into her clothes in a hurry and rushed to the door. Her plan was to leave before the police came or Nathan returned.
She opened the door but was immediately met with a man that stood in her way.
"Where do you think you are going, Miss Williams?" The man asked.
Keren stood there looking at him with wide eyes. She has a guess of what the man's job was. It was all cleared when he spoke again.
"I need to leave now." Keren said, trying to walk away through the side. The man was quick to block her passage again.
"I am sorry, Miss Williams. But I cannot let you out of my sight. My boss's order. Until you are cleared of all accusations before you could leave." The guard said.
"You don't understand, I really have to go now. It is very important." Keren said. She continued to plead but the guard won't hear of it. She had to go back into the hospital room.
Later, the nurses came and did a regular check up. Keren pleaded with them as well. But they were not in position to help her as well.
Keren has been in the hospital for a day already. Nathan has not returned since he left. The guard outside the room she is in has been standing in his post, not even sitting down.
"Everything will be destroyed if he finds out. My life will be over if he finds out." Keren murmured to herself as she paced in the room. "I can't let that happen." Sha concluded.
She stopped pacing and went for her phone. She dialed a number. After a few rings, the call was answered.
"Hello. We have a problem. I really need your help right now, dad." Keren said on the phone with a shaky voice.
