Chapter 17 Chapter 17
"Mr Leo , I trust we have come to the best in the business and we are going to get the best work." Said the new client that just finished having a meeting with Nathan. He stretched out his right hand to shake Nathan's hand.
Shaking the man back, Nathan responded. "No doubt, Mr Charles. I am sure you will be pleased with the outcome and come back for more contracts." Nathan said.
"I hope so. I know Mr Garcia's recommendations are the best in whatever field he does recommend." Mr Charles said.
Mr Garcia is the client that Nathan had problems with, but they eventually settled. He was also the one that recommended the new client, Mr Charles to Nathan.
That was the reason why Nathan put up with Mr Garcia. He knew it would be worth it in the end as the man has a lot of connections in his territory. Now before their contract even expires, he already sent in a recommendation.
Nathan walked the man out of the office then he asked his assistant to see Mr Charlie off.
Nathan let out a sigh of relief before walking back to his office. He sat down with a smile, happy with where the business is heading to. He is managing the business quite well. He was delivering better than his father had expected.
Nathan's phone began to ring. He looked at the screen. Seeing it was Keren calling, he ignored the call.
That is what he has been doing for the past three days since she left the villa.
Even though he was attending to businesses, at the same time, he didn't want to talk to her. So work was the perfect excuse to stay away from her. The last time he saw her was when she left the villa.
He also didn't want to approach her about her call with Brooke. In making Brooke think they were leaving together. Recalling Keren said that to Brooke makes him go in rage. He doesn't want to talk to her about it while he is still furious.
Keren called twice again but he still did not pick. Then a text message came through. He knew it would be from Keren. But then, another message entered. He wanted to clear them and put his phone on silent to rest a little. But then, he realized the second message was not from Keren.
It was an email from one of his directors that went on a business trip for the company. He knew it had to be important. So he unlocked his phone and went to check the message.
Keren: "Nathan, I know you are not happy with what happened but I am sorry. You ignoring my calls is making me go into depression- "
Nathan began to read Keren's text mistakenly. He stopped and exited the message and went ahead to delete it. But unfortunately, he deleted the director's message.
"Damn it, Keren." Nathan said aloud. He knew it had to be important. Luckily, he has his phone back up on cloud. So he went ahead to get it back from the cloud.
He successfully did. But he noticed he got more than just the director's message. There was a deleted message from Brooke. He knew he didn't receive any message from Brooke. So he decided to go through the message.
The text was about the divorce papers. She mentioned she has signed them and she doesn't want the alimony.
Then the image. Nathan looked at the image with a knitted brow..it is a picture of him in Keren's apartment. He recalled the time he was sitting there in the morning. That was after he gave Brooke divorce papers the previous night. It was obvious the picture was sent to anger Brooke. Especially the caption attached to the image.
He didn't need to read the caption to know it was Keren who sent it. They were the only two in her apartment that morning. Then
("So it was you all this time, Keren. You kept sending me pictures and what not. Anyway, you have nothing to worry about anymore. You can have him.")
Was Brooke's response. Her response broke his heart. It is as if she has given up all the fights and accepted defeat.
"Keren, why!" Nathan questioned out loud.
He wondered how she got to his phone and even deleted his messages. "How the heck did she know my password?" He questioned again.
Nathan could never have thought Keren had it in her to do such. She is the quiet type and a good listener. A librarian to top it all. But there she was finding ways to provoke Brooke. Making what was between them look more than what it is.
He got up preparing to leave. He is going to Keren's apartment straight from the office. He wants to confront her. He wanted to understand the kind of game she was playing with him and with Brooke especially.
A knock came on his office door. Before he spoke, the person barged in. It is his assistant. Nathan wondered why he was out of breath but stood quietly and waited for him to speak.
"Sorry to barge in, sir. But the security at Miss Williams' apartment just called. He said Miss Williams tried to kill herself."
"The nanny and the guard rushed her to the hospital."
As Nathan had promised, he assigned a bodyguard for Keren and also a house help.
"What is wrong with that lady?" Nathan asked. Why would she do that? What could possibly be her reason for trying to commit suicide?
Nathan's assistant told him which hospital they were at. He left the office for the hospital. Besides, he was planning to go see her. He has questions that she needs to give him answers.
However, unlike before, he had no remorse for the news he heard. Because what she has done to him now is just making him question her whole display of innocence.
Nathan drove from the office building, straight to the hospital. Throughout the drive, a lot was racing through his mind.
