Chapter 16 Chapter 16
Two hours earlier
In Emberwood, Brooke is sitting in a bedroom with her laptop. She is trying to complete her medical school registration. She was going through her email to put together the necessary information required. However, she came across a different email that caught her attention.
The subject of the mail read: customized order wristwatch ready.
She opened the mail and read through it. That was when she recalled she made a customized order of a wristwatch for Nathan. It was her gift to him for taking the position of the CEO of the family's business. But since then, all they did was argue. That made her totally forget about the order. She has to confirm the address before it will be delivered. After that, she will settle the balance when she receives her order.
She wanted to cancel the order but the company did not allow that and also, she knew how Nathan loved wristwatches. Especially ones that are customized for him.
"It will look good on him though." Brooke said. She imagined the wristwatch on him. So she decided to confirm the delivery address.
However, Brooke didn't want to speak to Nathan directly. She doesn't want any possible way that he can get in touch with her. So she decided to call the landline at the villa. It is a weekday and she is sure Nathan was still at work. So she can give Mrs Scooter the information necessary.
After a few rings, the call was picked.
When Mrs Scooter immediately recognised Brooke's voice. She became excited to hear from her.
"Missus, it is so good to hear from you. How have you been, my dear Brooke?" Mrs Scooter asked.
"I am doing well and trying to move on." Brooke responded. "The reason I called is to let you know there is a wristwatch delivery -"
"Is that Brooke, let me speak to her." Keren's voice came out of nowhere. She then snatched the phone from Mrs Scooter before she could even have the chance to say anything.
"Brooke, it's Keren speaking. Guess what?" Keren asked with excitement. "Nathan and I are now leaving together. This should have happened 3 years ago. But it's fine. Everything in due time. Anyway, thank you for setting Nathan free by agreeing to the divorce. Now we can finally have our happily ever after. All thanks to you." She informed her.
Brooke couldn't believe her ears. Although she knew they were together. But she never thought Nathan would bring Keren so quickly to their home. It was just so much that she didn't realize she had teary eyes already. She sniffed, trying to stop the tears from falling.
"I am happy to hear that from you. Besides, I have already given up a long time ago." Brooke said with a shaky voice. "All I ask is that you take care of Nathan. I believe we care about him. Something we have in common. Goodbye, Keren." She said and ended the call, not wanting to hear more of what the two have been up to.
She sat there and cried her lungs out. It hurts so much. But at the same time, that is another reason for her to move on with her own life. Nathan already did so easily.
Back to present
Back in Silverbrook.
Nathan rang the gate of the Leo's mansion impatiently. He just has to speak to Brooke and make her understand things are not what they seemed. She was fed with the wrong information.
"Bee, Bee, Brooke." Nathan kept calling at the Leo's gate. At the same time, the bell rang at the gate but no one seemed to be there.
The security lights were on but the main house seemed to be dark. As if no one was there.
"Brooke, please answer the gate. Let me in." He said through the intercom again. "Where is everyone?" He asked himself.
He knew the family were all made of him, especially Mrs Leo. But I must speak with Brooke. He will face Mr Leo's rage for that.
When there was still no evidence of movement in the house, Nathan decided to call Mrs Leo's phone. It rang once and went standing to voicemail. He tried again and the outcome did not change. He decided to call Mr Leo.
However, it was the same thing. Brooke's mother and father had blocked his number. He doesn't blame them though. He deserves it.
"Hello, sir. Is there a problem here?" A security man walked up to Nathan and asked. "A noise complaint was reported by the neighbors."
"Yes, sir. I just want to go into the house. I am Nathan Leo. The CEO of Leo's corporations." Nathan said he reached for his ID card and handed it to the security guard.
The security guard checked the ID card and confirmed Nathan is the one on the card. He handed it back to Nathan.
"Mr Leo, do you leave here or know the owners?" The security man asked.
"The house belongs to my in-laws." Nathan said, even though it felt strange to lie about that.
"Ok. Maybe you should call them then. It would be easier." The security suggested.
"I tried that but it seems no one is answering. Do you happen to know if the owners are around?" Nathan asked.
"I doubt that. The guards are the ones that turn on the security lights at night. I don't think I have seen any activity. Although, I haven't been here for long. Just a week ago." The security explained.
"Ok." Nathan answered. He began walking back to his car. The security guard spoke again.
"Although, I heard the owners will be here in a week."
Nathan thanked him. He got into his car and drove away.
'In a week's time, he will see Brooke again.' Nathan concluded and couldn't wait for the week to turn.
