Chapter 544 Better Off Dead
Lowell's face snapped to the side from the blow. He sneered, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Won't admit it even if it kills you, huh? Then let's see what's tougher—my gun or your mouth!" Sabrina showed no mercy. She grabbed Lowell by the collar, yanked him up from the couch, and beat him with her fists and feet.
Lowell clenched his jaw tight. He felt her punches and kicks landing on his body, the pain making him curl up, but he refused to say it hurt.
Sabrina pointed her gun at Lowell's head and threatened harshly, "Are you going to talk or not? If you don't, don't blame me for pulling the trigger."
Lowell lifted his eyelids and gave her a cold look. "Go ahead and shoot if you dare."
"You!" Sabrina threw Lowell hard to the ground and stomped viciously on his stomach.
Lowell felt like all the bones in his body were about to fall apart. He had no strength left.
Just then, someone suddenly knocked on the door from outside. "What's going on in there? Can you keep it down? Are you beating someone up?"
Sabrina jumped at the neighbor's shouting. She stared at the door warily.
Lowell sneered and ignored her. He'd already told her—the soundproofing here was terrible. The slightest noise could be heard upstairs and downstairs.
Seeing she couldn't get anything out of him, Sabrina rushed into the kitchen and grabbed a cleaver.
She pressed the blade against his neck. "If you really want to die, I can make it happen."
Lowell's brow furrowed slightly, and he felt inexplicably panicked. "Who are you exactly? Someone from GeneCipher Society?"
"Who I am is none of your business. You just need to tell me honestly where the formula Elijah left behind is."
Lowell shook his head. "I don't know anything about any formula."
"Bullshit! Elijah said it himself—the formula is on him. If it wasn't for the formula, do you think we would've risked breaking him out?"
Sabrina clearly didn't believe Lowell.
Lowell raised an eyebrow and asked casually, "You're the ones who broke Elijah out?"
Sabrina snorted coldly, which was as good as admitting it.
Lowell lowered his eyes, quickly thinking through his options. After a long moment, he slowly shook his head. "I really don't know anything about a formula. If you don't believe me, search all you want."
"You're his only son. How could he not leave you a clue?"
Lowell smiled bitterly and shook his head. "So you even looked into our relationship? Did you also find out that Elijah and I had a terrible relationship?"
Sabrina hesitated. What she'd found did show that Elijah and his son didn't get along.
But her instinct told her that Elijah couldn't have failed to leave himself a backup plan.
So she started frantically searching Lowell's place. After an hour, she'd turned the entire apartment upside down but hadn't found what she was looking for.
Lowell shifted to lean against the couch, watching her with leisure. "I already told you I don't have any formula here, but you wouldn't believe me."
"If you dare lie to me, I'll come back for you sooner or later!"
Sabrina sneered, used the cleaver to cut the ropes binding Lowell, and left.
Lowell was covered in injuries from the beating. Seeing her leave, he let out a huge sigh of relief.
After leaving, Sabrina gave orders to her subordinates: "Keep a close eye on him. If he does anything unusual, tell me right away."
"Yes!" the subordinates replied in unison.
Sabrina drove back to her own place. She didn't even bother changing clothes and went straight to the basement.
The basement was pitch black except for one weak light.
Sabrina turned on the main lights, and the brightness instantly flooded the entire basement.
It was dark and damp here, with an eerie atmosphere that made you feel cold all over.
In the corner, a woman bound by iron chains on her hands and feet slowly raised her eyes and shrank back into the corner almost imperceptibly.
"You didn't eat again today? You're really something, treating yourself like this and still not dead."
Sabrina sat down on a couch not far from the woman, her eyes full of mockery.
The woman's long hair covered her face, but as she lifted her head, that face gradually became visible.
It was a face identical to Sabrina's.
This woman was Sabrina's twin sister, Odette.
Odette opened her mouth and mocked her: "Got rejected out there again? You look like you're in a bad mood."
Perhaps because she hadn't spoken in so long, her voice was hoarse.
Sabrina's expression changed. "None of your business. Just stay here quietly and stop worrying about what's going on outside, and I might keep you around for a couple more years."
Odette laughed coldly. "Living like this, I might as well be dead."
Being locked up in this place where she never saw daylight—it was a fate worse than death.
Sabrina looked at her with disgust and suddenly said, "I had someone check Alaric's schedule. He's coming to Harmony City tomorrow."
At the mention of Alaric's name, Odette's pupils contracted. Her hands curled up anxiously, but she said nothing.
Sabrina took in her reaction, a trace of contempt flashing in her eyes. "After all these years, you're not still hung up on him, are you? You're delusional! My dear sister, from the moment you were locked up here, everything you had became mine."
Odette lowered her eyes. She hid the emotions in them, but her body trembled uncontrollably.
