Chapter 529: Shedding Tears for Her
Sophia looked at Olivia's face, and she was unable to describe how she was feeling.
Two years ago, Sophia had already told herself that whatever happened to the Brown family in the future had nothing to do with her anymore.
But when she saw Olivia lying on the hospital bed, barely alive, she felt a bit of sourness in her heart.
She forced down the surging emotions and left the ward without responding to Olivia.
With help from the prison staff, they quickly contacted a nearby hospital.
Medical personnel pushed Olivia into the ambulance, and Sophia and Sawyer got in too, heading to that hospital together.
The hospital wasn't very big, but it had decent equipment. Besides Sophia, several other nurses entered the operating room.
Sawyer was left outside. Family members weren't allowed in the operating room and could only wait outside.
As time passed bit by bit, Sawyer became more and more restless, pacing back and forth in the hospital corridor.
After hearing the news, Heath and Flynn also rushed over one after another.
They walked up to Sawyer, dusty and disheveled, asking anxiously, "How's Mom?"
"She's still in surgery. I don't know the details either." Sawyer leaned against the wall, his eyes fixed on the tightly closed operating room door without blinking.
Heath and Flynn looked at each other, their feelings very mixed.
Like Sawyer, they hadn't seen Olivia in two years either.
They didn't know what attitude to take toward Olivia, and they couldn't forgive themselves for the mistakes they had made.
More than three hours later, the operating room light finally went out, and the door was pushed open from inside.
Heath and Flynn saw the figure coming out and couldn't help but freeze. "Sophia?"
Sophia nodded at them and said, "The surgery was completed successfully. The patient needs to rest well now."
Given Olivia's situation, she would still return to prison after the surgery, just with slightly better treatment than before.
Actually, this wouldn't change anything.
After saying that, she left directly without stopping at all.
Heath and Flynn were still too shocked to react. Sawyer glanced at them speechlessly and quickly chased after her.
At a time like this, shouldn't they try to keep Sophia there first?
He really didn't want to admit that Heath and Flynn were his brothers.
So embarrassing!
Heath and Flynn finally came to their senses and immediately chased after her.
"Sophia, wait."
Hearing the footsteps and shouts behind her, Sophia paused slightly and slowly turned around. "Is there something else?"
They hurriedly caught up and stopped in front of Sophia, but their minds were completely blank.
They just wanted to keep Sophia there. That's what they thought, and that's what they did. Where would they have time to think of an excuse for keeping her?
Heath reacted quickly. He asked Sophia, "Are there any other things we need to watch out for? We want to let her stay outside for a few more days."
The "her" naturally referred to Olivia.
Sophia thought for a moment and mentioned several precautions and things she needed to avoid eating.
Heath silently memorized everything, but his eyes were fixed on Sophia without blinking, reluctant to look away.
Two years. This was the first time they had been this close to Sophia.
They hadn't received wedding invitations to Sophia's wedding, and this was their biggest regret.
When they saw Sophia in the video wearing a wedding dress, walking down the red carpet holding Xander's hand, their eyes turned red, and then they cried hard.
But they didn't plan to tell Sophia about this.
All vulnerability and pain only matter when shared with people who care.
And they knew themselves well enough to know that in Sophia's heart, they weren't important enough for that.
In the end, they could only watch helplessly as Sophia left, unable to do anything. This sense of powerlessness was like surging tides, almost drowning them.
Sophia had no idea what they were feeling at that moment. After the surgery ended, her task was already complete.
Maybe she was being a bit cold, but she had gone missing when she was only 1 year old, and by the time she returned to the Brown family, she was already 19, and only stayed for a little over a month.
So she really didn't have deep feelings for the Brown family.
All she hoped for now was that both sides wouldn't bother each other. If they happened to meet, they could just pretend not to know each other to avoid awkwardness.
If they came to her for medical treatment, fine, but they needed to follow her rules.
The only people she would make exceptions for were those she considered important enough.
After leaving the hospital, Sophia suddenly saw a familiar car parked at the entrance.
She widened her eyes in surprise, then quickened her pace toward the car.
Benjamin got out of the car, his eyes full of smiles. He pulled Sophia into his arms and kissed her forehead.
Sophia's eyes lit up as she looked at him curiously. "How did you get here? Wait, how did you know I was here?"
Benjamin chuckled softly. "Guess."
Sophia glared at him playfully, tilted her head in thought for a moment, then suddenly realized, "You investigated me again!"
"It's not really investigating. At most, it's caring about my wife's whereabouts."
Sophia twitched her lips speechlessly. He was getting better and better at making excuses.
But... she was in a pretty good mood today, so she'd reluctantly let it slide this time.
Benjamin reached out and opened the back door. After she got in, he sat down beside her.
