Chapter 35 You Should Have Confidence in Your Husband
"Honey, I'm fine. Don't blame Lily. It wasn't fair to ask her to get coffee." Sophia tried to appear indifferent, but tears streamed down her face.
Sophia looked so upset, it tugged at everyone's heartstrings.
Lily was too furious to even speak!
Benjamin's icy gaze cut through the room like a knife. "If you don't want the job, then quit."
Lily shook her head frantically, tears spilling over.
This time, she was genuinely crying.
Tears flowed like a river, deepening her sense of injustice.
She wanted to explain, but Benjamin wasn't interested.
He wrapped his arm around Sophia's shoulders, his eyes narrowing. "If you don't want to work, go to HR and hand in your resignation."
With that, he turned and led Sophia into the CEO's office without a backward glance.
As the door closed slowly, Lily felt like she'd been struck by lightning.
Her legs gave out, and she crumpled to the floor, eyes wide with shock and confusion.
Why?
Why did it end up like this?
She was so sure she had it under control.
Quickly wiping her tears, she grabbed her phone and dialed a number. "Find out who this Sophia really is."
"Don't ask questions, just do it!" Lily's sharp voice echoed through the empty hallway, filled with anger.
In the CEO's office, Benjamin sat on the couch, looking at Sophia's red eyes. "Tell me, what happened earlier?"
Sophia tilted her head, feigning innocence. "What are you talking about, honey? I don't know anything!"
Benjamin's long fingers drummed lazily on his crossed legs, his demeanor casual but imposing.
"Was that little act for my benefit? Where'd you learn those tricks?"
Sophia pouted, looking hurt. "I get bullied, and you question me!"
Benjamin was speechless.
He frowned, moved to sit beside Sophia, and seeing her genuine distress, he felt a wave of helplessness.
He raised his hand, gently wiping the redness from Sophia's eyes with his rough fingertips, his tone softening. "Did you feel wronged?"
"What do you think?" Sophia looked up, tears still in her eyes. "She started it! If I weren't quick on my feet, I wouldn't have been able to defend myself!"
Sophia proudly puffed out her chest, a look of defiance on her face. "I'm a pro at this! She's got nothing on me!"
Even if Benjamin hadn't shown up, she could've handled it herself!
Benjamin's eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn't speak. His gaze, however, was cold.
He continued to gently wipe Sophia's tears, his voice low. "No more crying in the future. Not even pretending."
Seeing Sophia's tears fall, Benjamin felt a sharp pain, unlike his usual ailments.
His heart felt like it was soaked in a bottle of sour plum wine—sour, bitter, with a hint of sweetness.
He looked at Sophia, his eyes glinting. "Sophia, you can tell me about these things in the future. I'll handle them."
Sophia's pure nature shouldn't be tainted.
He married Sophia to protect her, not to let her suffer.
Sophia tilted her head, surprised. "Do you really believe me?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Benjamin tapped her forehead twice.
She winced, leaning back to avoid Benjamin's hand, glaring at him in accusation. He spoke, his tone full of disdain, "Silly. You're my wife. She's just an outsider. Would I be foolish enough to believe an outsider over you?"
Benjamin extended his arm, pulling Sophia back into his embrace, his thin lips brushing a gentle kiss on her hair. He whispered, "Sophia, you should have faith in me ."
Sophia blinked, feeling a sudden surge of joy and happiness.
'Is this what it feels like to be trusted? It feels pretty good!' She thought.
Sophia's lips curved into a smile, her mood instantly brightening.
She suddenly remembered something and quickly lifted her head from Benjamin's embrace. "Honey, weren't you going to a meeting?"
Benjamin replied, "I came back to get something. Stay in the office, someone will bring you snacks and coffee soon."
With that, Benjamin stood up to leave.
Before leaving, Benjamin ruffled Sophia's hair playfully.
Looking at Sophia's now-messy hair, Benjamin's lips curved slightly as he discreetly withdrew his hand.
After Benjamin left, Sophia began to inspect the CEO's office.
It was different from what she had imagined.
The room was large but very simply furnished.
One could even call it plain.
The overall color scheme was a minimalist black and white, with two paintings hanging on the white walls.
Aside from that, there was nothing else.
A thick stack of files sat on the black desk, and behind it was a bookshelf.
The gray and white sofa and coffee table were probably the only pieces of furniture with any color.
It was definitely Benjamin's style.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
A man in his twenties, dressed in a black suit, walked in, carrying several bags that didn't quite match his demeanor.
They contained coffee and snacks."Hello, Mrs. White. I'm the CEO's assistant, Chase Hays."
Sophia studied Chase carefully, feeling he looked familiar.
Chase seemed to notice Sophia's confusion and explained, "Mrs. White, I delivered the documents on the day you and Mr. White got married."
"Oh, it was you!" Sophia's eyes widened in surprise.
She had been tired and hungry that day, barely noticing anyone other than Benjamin.
So she hadn't recognized Chase.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, she scratched her head and apologized.
Chase quickly waved it off, placing the items on the coffee table and quietly said to Sophia, "Mr. White is in a meeting. If you need anything, you can contact me."
As he spoke, his gaze lingered on Sophia's slightly disheveled hair, suppressing a chuckle with a few coughs.
He pursed his lips and gently reminded her, "Mrs. White, there's a restroom in the CEO's lounge over there. You can tidy up your hair."
Sophia was puzzled. She touched her hair and froze.
"Benjamin!" Sophia gritted her teeth, her face flushing with embarrassment.
She covered her face and quickly ran to the restroom.
She couldn't face anyone now!
