Chapter 34 I Don't Mind Funding Your Return to Elementary School
Lily's face went pale, shock written all over her features. "You want me to... get a latte?"
She had to fetch a latte for Sophia? No way!
"Is there a problem?" Benjamin's eyes flickered with impatience, his tone turning icy.
Lily forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. "Mr. White, there's a meeting coming up. How can I go buy a latte?"
Benjamin frowned. "Isn't there anyone left in the admin department? Am I paying you all just to lounge around?"
"And you're not my assistant. If you can't even speak properly, I wouldn't mind sponsoring you to repeat elementary school."
Lily was the assistant to the department manager in the admin department. Because she was quite competent, most of the document deliveries were handed over to her.
Benjamin, of course, had no idea what was going through Lily's mind when she said that.
He only knew that a CEO's assistant and an admin department manager's assistant were two different roles.
If she couldn't even understand her position, how could she perform her duties well?
Standing beside Benjamin, Sophia found Lily's pale, fear-stricken face amusing.
Benjamin was just too impressive!
In just a few words, he not only exposed Lily's vague excuses but also indirectly stood up for Sophia.
Sophia's lips curved into a smile. She tiptoed and planted a kiss on the corner of Benjamin's lips.
Catching Benjamin's surprised look, Sophia's smile deepened. "A reward."
Benjamin was bewildered, not understanding why Sophia kissed him again.
However, the soft, sweet scent lingering on his lips made his heart skip a beat.
He cleared his throat, trying to appear composed. "I have to go to a meeting. Behave yourself."
After Benjamin left, Sophia crossed her arms and leaned against the wall.
Her lips curved slightly, her delicate face looking like a doll in a shop window.
Even Lily, who prided herself on her beauty, couldn't help but feel inferior in front of her.
Sophia looked at Lily, her lips curving. "Lily, I'd like a hot latte, no extra sugar, thanks."
Lily seethed inside but kept smiling on the surface. "Anything else, Mrs. White?"
Sophia rested her chin on her hand, thinking seriously. "Get some chips and cookies too."
She hadn't had enough of the chips and cookies from last night!
Recalling the delicious taste, Sophia couldn't help but swallow.
Lily smiled and was about to leave when she suddenly paused.
She turned to Sophia, her tone shifting. "Mrs. White, I don't know what you're talking about! Mr. White and I are just colleagues, nothing like what you're thinking!"
Her eyes reddened, tears welling up, ready to fall any second.
She looked utterly wronged.
Just then, footsteps approached from behind.
Sophia tilted her head, suddenly understanding.
Her eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing in them.
Trying to mess with her?
Did they really think she was a pushover?
Benjamin had forgotten something and turned back halfway.
As Benjamin walked in, he saw Lily, who had been fawning over him moments ago, now hanging her head, tears in her eyes, looking wronged. "Mrs. White, Mr. White and I really aren't what you think. If you can't tolerate me, I'll resign tomorrow."
Benjamin frowned, about to step forward when another soft, pitiful voice spoke up, filled with an indescribable grievance. "What do you mean? I just wanted to ask about my husband's work, to know him better. How did that turn into me forcing you to resign?"
"Lily, I know asking you to get coffee was too much. You're right to be upset. I... I can give you extra pay for it!" Sophia stood straight against the wall, her eyes red, biting her lower lip, her clear eyes filled with unspoken grievances.
Benjamin's heart ached.
He frowned, quickly walking to Sophia's side. "What's going on?"
Lily's face turned pale at Benjamin's appearance.
She had only intended to say a few misleading words to spread rumors about Sophia bullying employees, ruining Sophia's reputation.
She never expected the person behind her to be Benjamin.
And Sophia... she wasn't as simple and gentle as she appeared.
Lily, the only female employee free to enter the 56th floor, had a sense of superiority.
She believed that as long as she kept impressing Benjamin, he would eventually notice her.
Then, she could become Benjamin's wife, envied by all.
So, she had used every trick to drive away all the young, beautiful women around Benjamin.
That trick had always worked before.
Everyone in the company knew she was gentle and kind, but often bullied because of it.
She was beautiful, with striking features and a hot, sexy body, attracting countless admirers and followers in the company.
Even if she suffered the slightest grievance, her followers would handle all the trouble for her.
She had thought Sophia was weak and easy to bully, but she never expected Sophia to turn her own tactics against her.
And use them even better.
Sophia threw herself into Benjamin's arms, tears streaming down her face, her voice filled with grievance. "Honey, you're finally back..."
She didn't mind if someone was interested in Benjamin.
It showed he was excellent and that she had good taste.
But if someone dared to target her, she would fight back with their own methods!
Acting? She was a pro!
She had been Joshua Thomas's practice partner for countless scenes as a child.
Her acting skills were recognized by the most famous film directors in the country!
Benjamin lowered his gaze, gently stroking Sophia's hair, his lips pressed into a tight line.
He was tall and imposing, his cold eyes sweeping over Lily.
A sense of authority emanated from him, making Lily feel breathless.
"What happened?"
He had only left for a few minutes, and someone was bullying his wife?
Seeing Benjamin's stern face, Lily panicked. "Mr. White, let me explain..."
Lily never expected to fall into her own trap.
She lowered her head, her mind racing for a solution.
At that moment, Sophia looked up from Benjamin's embrace, tears welling in her red eyes.
