Chapter 344 The Lion with Smooth Fur
Yesterday, Thaddeus made a special trip to find Sophia and asked to meet her, saying he had something important to discuss.
With so many guests around at the time, Sophia didn't dare ask too many questions.
Sophia and Finnley arrived at the agreed location and slowly parked the car.
Finnley turned his head to look at her. Seeing Sophia's somewhat serious expression, not knowing what she was thinking about, he quickly grabbed her hand, interlocking their fingers and holding them tightly in his palm.
"What are you thinking about?"
Sophia snapped back to reality and shook her head at him. "I don't know, I just feel a bit uneasy."
"Don't be afraid, I'm here," Finnley said.
Finnley's deep eyes seemed to have a power that could calm people's hearts.
Sophia's anxious heart immediately settled down.
She smiled again and nodded at Finnley. "Okay, let's go."
Thaddeus was already waiting at the entrance. Seeing them appear, he immediately waved at them. "Follow me."
Sophia and Finnley exchanged glances, not understanding what Thaddeus was up to, but they followed anyway.
When they followed Thaddeus into the office, they saw a familiar person.
The man was sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, lazily drinking coffee.
Hearing the door open, he slowly raised his eyes.
A gleam flashed through his dark blue eyes, and his gaze fixed on Sophia, unable to look away.
"Ms. Brown, long time no see."
"Mr. Langley, we just saw each other last night," Sophia said coldly.
Finnley frowned, stepped forward, and subtly positioned Sophia behind him, his gaze falling on Wilford with displeasure.
"Although we met yesterday, I've been missing Ms. Brown terribly."
As Wilford spoke, he winked at Sophia, completely ignoring Finnley.
No man could tolerate this kind of situation.
Finnley let out a cold laugh, ready to step forward and teach this reckless Wilford a lesson.
But the next second, a tingling itch came from his palm.
Sophia was gently scratching his palm, silently soothing his emotions.
Finnley froze. The anger that had been building up in his chest disappeared instantly like air leaking from a balloon.
So, Thaddeus and Wilford were surprised to discover that Finnley, who had been radiating a menacing aura and was ready to punch someone, was instantly calmed down.
Like a lion whose fur had been stroked, he retracted his cruel and bloodthirsty claws in front of his beloved and became incredibly docile.
This completely overturned their understanding of Finnley.
Thaddeus and Wilford exchanged glances. For the first time, they realized how important Sophia was to Finnley.
"Alright, let's get down to business. Mr. Langley, what did you want to tell us?" Thaddeus cleared his throat and spoke first.
The smile faded from Wilford's lips, and his expression immediately turned cold and serious.
"I've received some information recently. Have you heard of the GeneCipher Society?"
Thaddeus was shocked and immediately became alert. "How do you know about this organization?"
In contrast, Sophia and Finnley appeared quite calm.
Wilford took in their changing expressions.
After a moment of silence, he continued, "I had people investigate. This GeneCipher Society mainly operates in Novaria, but now they're expanding their influence outward."
"Mr. Langley, what are you trying to say?" Thaddeus asked, confused.
Wilford looked at him deeply, then picked up a folder from the coffee table and handed it to him.
Thaddeus took the file and flipped through it, his expression becoming stern.
"This... isn't this Celestria's Deputy Executive, Dwayne Larson? How does he know Elijah?"
Sophia leaned over to look and was also stunned.
If Elijah knew Dwayne, did that mean the GeneCipher Society's influence had already expanded to Celestria?
Wilford suddenly looked at Finnley, his eyes cold and sharp. "I also found out that Mr. Bryant spent two years in the GeneCipher Society. I wonder what role you played there? And what's your purpose in getting close to the White family?"
His tone was calm, but every question he asked was pointed.
"What are you trying to say?"
Sophia instinctively stepped in front of Finnley. She felt uneasy.
She knew the events from two years ago would be discovered sooner or later, but she didn't expect it to happen so soon.
Finnley patted Sophia's shoulder reassuringly and said softly, "Don't be nervous, it's okay."
"Mr. Langley, I did stay there for a while, but I never had access to the GeneCipher Society's core. You won't find any leads from me."
"Also, the GeneCipher Society changes locations regularly. I sent people to search their previous base, and it's already been cleared out."
Sophia looked at him in surprise. When did this happen?
Why had he never mentioned it before?
Wilford was so shocked he stood up from the sofa. "What did you say? You went to their base?"
"Yes. If your information is good enough, you should know that the GeneCipher Society tampered with my memory. I came back naturally hoping to get everything back on track."
The implication was that he wouldn't work for the GeneCipher Society anymore.
Wilford stared at Finnley, trying to tell from his eyes whether this statement was true or false.
But Finnley remained composed, letting him scrutinize him with a calm expression that revealed nothing.
Finally, Wilford slumped back onto the sofa and said irritably, "There's less than a month until Celestria's election officially begins."
Celestria's Executive was equivalent to the president of many countries—the highest leader—and the position changed every four years.
Although Celestria was small in land area, its economic development ranked among the top internationally, and it had a good relationship with Novaria.
Both Wilford and Dwayne were popular candidates for Executive. Four years ago, their vote counts were neck and neck.
In the end, Wilford won by a margin of two votes and became the new Executive.
But Dwayne had always been resentful and constantly pulled tricks behind the scenes.
With the election coming up, Wilford felt that Dwayne must be planning something big to bring him down.
Sophia showed a knowing expression. "Looks like my guess was right."
From the moment they caught those people secretly monitoring her at the hospital, she had already suspected something.
She just didn't expect Elijah to be involved.
Thaddeus's expression was cold. "That organization is secretive. We've sent people to search many times, but found nothing in the end. If they've gone abroad now, it'll be even harder to find them."
Finnley spoke up at the right moment. "Every action leaves a trace. Since Elijah and Dwayne are secretly connected, we can follow that lead."
"Then I'll immediately message my subordinates and have them secretly watch Dwayne."
Wilford rubbed his face and suddenly stood up from the sofa.
That bastard Dwayne actually played dirty tricks and sent people to assassinate him—he was asking for death!
They sat together and worked out a plan, reaching a preliminary cooperation.
