Chapter 317 I Am So Scared
In the operating room, besides the doctors and nurses, there were two bodyguards responsible for protecting Wilford closely.
They stood to the side, watching Sophia's every move the entire time, not daring to let their guard down for even a moment.
Sophia handled the scalpel skillfully, her movements smooth and flowing, completely unaffected.
But the other doctors and nurses weren't as calm as her, constantly stealing glances.
The expressions on those two bodyguards' faces were truly terrifying, especially their eyes, filled with a sinister and ruthless look.
Being stared at by those two pairs of eyes made everyone very nervous.
"Focus."
Sophia's cool voice rang out, startling the others. They quickly gathered their thoughts and concentrated their attention on the operating table.
Fortunately, after about four hours, the surgery finally ended.
Everyone finally showed expressions of relief. The difficulty of this surgery was simply indescribable.
They were already top-tier doctors and nurses in the hospital and had participated in many surgeries, big and small, but none had ever been as nerve-wracking as today.
"Move him to the observation room first." Sophia's voice was as calm and composed as always, with a slight hoarseness.
Despite her young age, Sophia gave off an indescribable sense of composure that made people instinctively want to follow her lead.
Hearing her words, everyone hurried to clean up the instruments and prepare to move Wilford to the observation room.
Outside the operating room, Thaddeus Guest stood with his hands behind his back, constantly pacing in the corridor, glancing at the door from time to time.
Although he didn't say a word, his nervous emotions were obvious.
In comparison, Francis was much calmer.
He reassured him, "Thaddeus, don't worry. I have confidence in Sophia's medical skills."
"This isn't just any minor surgery, and it involves our relationship with Celestria. It's a major matter." Thaddeus's expression was grave.
Francis let out a deep sigh, silently praying in his heart that the surgery would be completed smoothly.
As for Finnley, he leaned silently against the corridor wall, eyes downcast, his expression unreadable.
Soon, the operating room door was pushed open from inside, and Sophia was the first to walk out.
Francis immediately walked over, "How did it go?"
"The surgery was very successful, but we still need to observe for a while." Sophia removed her mask and looked at Thaddeus. "Now, can you fulfill your promise?"
"Sophia, child, what's the rush? Would Thaddeus go back on his word?"
Thaddeus smiled warmly and waved his hand. "It's fine. Sophia, you can tell us your conditions now."
The expression on Sophia's face remained calm, making it impossible to read her emotions.
Her red lips parted slightly, about to speak, when suddenly her expression sharpened, her eyes becoming fierce as she looked toward the end of the corridor.
Before anyone else could react, she pulled something from her pocket and flung it toward the corner of the corridor.
Flashes of silver light streaked through the air, carrying a gust of wind.
Immediately after, screams and dull thuds of bodies hitting the ground rang out.
The group rushed over quickly to see four or five young men collapsed on the ground.
They lay there moaning in pain, looking quite miserable.
Sophia walked up to these men first, grabbed one by the collar, and demanded sharply, "Speak! Who are you? Why are you spying on us?"
The young man Sophia had grabbed felt dizzy and his whole body was in excruciating pain.
When they were discovered earlier, he had wanted to hide with the others, but in that critical moment, something seemed to pierce his forehead.
In that instant, he felt his whole body go weak and collapsed to the ground.
His internal organs felt like they were being ground in a meat grinder, the pain almost suffocating.
When he saw Sophia's face, he knew he was done for.
He struggled to open his mouth, wanting to explain, but found he didn't even have the strength to make a sound.
What had Sophia done to them?
Damn it!
Sophia's red lips curved slightly. She slowly released her grip on the man's collar, stood up, dusted off her hands, and stated directly, "Thaddeus, he says he was sent by Wilford's rival to assassinate Wilford."
Thaddeus: "..."
Francis: "..."
Wait, the guy hasn't even spoken—how did she figure that out?
"I saw it in his eyes. He wanted to kill me." Sophia lifted her chin and explained with a smile.
Thaddeus looked at the people lying on the ground and couldn't help asking, "They wanted to kill you, so that means they wanted to kill Wilford? Not that you made some enemies yourself?"
Sophia blinked her big innocent eyes, her expression full of smiles. "Enemies? How could a sweet and kind girl like me make enemies? The only thing that could make people hate me is my medical skills. But I've only performed this one surgery recently."
Thaddeus was amused by her playful manner, but then looked deeply at the people lying on the ground, his expression becoming serious.
If they really were sent to assassinate Wilford, this was no small matter.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, the news of Wilford coming to this hospital for treatment had been strictly sealed. Logically, no one should have known.
Thaddeus fell into thought and immediately made a phone call, asking his subordinates to come over.
Sophia bent her leg and kicked one of the men, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
"Thaddeus, I don't think these guys look like they're from Celestria. They look more like they're from Novaria."
Celestria was about half the globe away from Novaria in a straight line, so the physical characteristics were quite distinct.
But these men were clearly from Novaria.
This made the matter even bigger.
Celestria's executive being targeted for assassination by Novarians on Novarian soil...
Thaddeus's face darkened. When his subordinates arrived with their men, he immediately ordered, "Take these people away and lock them up for thorough interrogation."
They glared at Sophia unwillingly, threatening through gritted teeth, "You just wait, I won't let you off!"
"I'm so scared!"
Sophia buried her face in Finnley's chest, putting on a frightened act.
Caught off guard by her embrace, Finnley's thin lips curved slightly upward. He naturally raised his arm to gently stroke her hair, his deep eyes filled with tender affection.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here."
