Chapter 256 What is the Reward for Guessing Correctly
Flowers, lawn, candlelit dinner...
Everything had been carefully arranged.
Sophia's heart skipped a beat uncontrollably. She slowly turned around, facing Benjamin directly.
She looked up at him, her bright eyes reflecting the lights and his shadow.
"When did you prepare all this? Haven't you been with me the whole time?"
Benjamin helplessly tapped her nose, "Do I have to set everything up myself? But I did provide the inspiration for the decorations."
Benjamin was worried about Sophia being alone in the lab. Once she got busy, she forgot about everything.
She even needed reminders to eat. If no one called her, she'd probably work herself to exhaustion before stopping.
Since it happened to be Valentine's Day, Benjamin specially arranged for someone to set up a candlelit dinner.
He walked to the table, picked up the roses that had been placed there, and walked toward Sophia.
"Mrs. White, happy Valentine's Day."
Sophia stared at Benjamin in a daze. By the time she came to her senses, the bouquet was already in her arms.
The fragrance filled her nose. Before her eyes was a passionate red, vivid and fresh, each flower telling a story of deep, lingering love.
"Honey, thank you."
Benjamin smiled softly and wrapped his arm around Sophia's slender waist, pulling her into his embrace, then lowered his head and kissed her smooth, full forehead.
The melodious sound of a violin drifted over, the romantic melody and sweet, warm atmosphere bringing the holiday feeling to its peak.
Sophia suddenly realized that there didn't seem to be any other customers in the restaurant today.
Just the two of them.
Benjamin led Sophia to their seats. The surrounding lights were dim, adding an intimate atmosphere. Not far away was a large artificial lake.
Looking up, she could see stars twinkling all over the sky.
Soon, a waiter pushed a cart over and placed the dishes on their table.
"Mr. White, Mrs. White, enjoy your meal."
Benjamin lowered his eyes, picked up his knife and fork, and cut his steak methodically. The candlelight softened his facial features, making him seem less cold and distant than usual.
"Honey, I also have good news to tell you."
Benjamin looked up at her, "What good news?"
"Guess." Sophia propped up her chin, her eyes turning playfully.
Benjamin's hand paused slightly as he cut the steak. His thin lips curved up as he teased, "What do I get if I guess right?"
Sophia tilted her head and thought for a moment, then shook her head seriously, "Nothing."
"No reward? That won't do." Benjamin smiled lightly, his eyes deep. "I'm a businessman. I never make losing deals. Think it over before asking me to guess."
Sophia huffed and muttered, "No fun." Then she said, "If you guess right, you can make one request of me. As long as it's not too much, I'll agree. How about that?"
Benjamin immediately became interested and asked back, "What counts as not too much?"
Sophia was stumped by the question. She really hadn't thought about it.
Benjamin wasn't in a hurry, quietly waiting for her answer.
"As long as it's not illegal."
Benjamin suddenly laughed softly.
Sophia was so adorably naive. How could she set such a trap for herself?
How could he possibly make any illegal requests?
"Okay, let me guess."
Benjamin got halfway through his sentence when he suddenly paused, putting on a look of serious contemplation.
Sophia held her breath, looking at him expectantly, not daring to even blink.
After about half a minute, Benjamin finally spoke, "Your experiment should be almost done?"
"How did you know?" Sophia's eyes widened suddenly, full of shock and surprise.
She hadn't told anyone about this.
Benjamin smiled mysteriously and beckoned Sophia with his finger, signaling her to come closer.
Sophia obediently leaned in, and heard Benjamin say in a low voice, "Because your emotions are written all over your face. It's hard not to guess."
"..."
Was it really that obvious?
Sophia touched her face doubtfully, finding it hard to believe.
While Sophia was doubting herself, Benjamin passed his cut steak to Sophia, took the steak in front of her, and continued cutting.
Actually, Sophia's thoughts were easy to read.
A few days ago, Sophia could skip meals and sleep to do her experiments. When he called her to eat, she was reluctant, wishing she could live at the lab bench.
But today was different.
When he asked Sophia to eat, she agreed right away.
And today was the first time since coming here that Sophia voluntarily looked away from the lab bench and at him.
So he guessed that Sophia's experiment must have made significant progress.
As it turned out, his guess was right.
Sophia, whose thoughts had been seen through at a glance, glumly held her knife and fork, constantly poking at the steak on her plate, occasionally glaring at Benjamin.
She had wanted to surprise Benjamin, but didn't expect to be exposed so quickly.
No fun!
"A deal's a deal. So, what request do you want to make?"
Sophia's tone couldn't have been more aggrieved.
Benjamin laughed helplessly, "I haven't decided yet. I'll save this chance to make a request for later. It'll come in handy eventually."
Early the next morning, Matthew and Joshua both rushed to the lab.
Even Alaric and Tyrell came.
Everyone gathered around Sophia, asking her about the drug.
"Did the clinical trial pass? How was it? Are there any side effects?" Matthew was the first to ask.
"Based on the experiments, the probability of side effects is about one percent." Sophia answered honestly.
Hearing Sophia's answer, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
But the next second, Sophia changed her tone, "Right now, the biggest problem is that I need someone with extensive medical knowledge to stay by my side at all times, observing my condition."
"That's easy. Alaric and I can stay with you the whole time." Benjamin gripped Sophia's hand tightly. Although he appeared casual on the surface, his voice was particularly tense.
Sophia shook her head and explained, "If that one percent probability really happens, I need someone who can think on their feet and help me."
Alaric's medical skills were quite advanced in the country, but Sophia wasn't sure if he could stay calm and handle everything properly in case of an emergency.
"Should I call Elijah over?"
Alaric asked with a frown.
He knew his own abilities and knew that Sophia's situation required absolute caution.
Elijah was obviously the best choice.
"The fewer people who know about this, the safer Sophia and Benjamin will be." Matthew, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke up. "It's not that I don't trust you, but I don't know this Elijah you're talking about. I absolutely won't let Sophia take risks."
Alaric understood the seriousness of the situation, so he didn't argue with Matthew's words.
The lab instantly fell into silence.
After a long while, Sophia took a deep breath and said, "Forget it, we'll take it one step at a time. What are the chances I'd be unlucky enough to hit that one percent probability?"
She spoke lightly, but everyone present felt heavy-hearted.
