Chapter 257 Waking Up
Everything was ready. Sophia lay on a hospital bed with Benjamin sitting beside her, tightly holding her hand.
Alaric drew the antidote into a syringe and skillfully injected it into Sophia's body.
Alaric checked on her condition at regular intervals.
Various instruments were connected to Sophia, monitoring changes in her physical condition.
The mechanical sounds of the equipment kept beeping in the quiet laboratory. With each beep, everyone's hearts tightened.
After the injection, Sophia fell into a coma. For three whole days, she showed no signs of waking up.
Benjamin stayed by her bedside without leaving for three days and nights.
He had always been particular about cleanliness, but this time, he wouldn't even change his clothes.
Alaric, Joshua, and Matthew also stayed there, going nowhere.
"What's going on? It's been three days and nights, why is there no movement at all?" Joshua spoke his first words in three days. His voice was hoarse from not speaking for so long.
But it couldn't hide the worry and anxiety in his tone.
Alaric shook his head. "I wasn't involved in the research process, so I don't know exactly what Sophia meant by side effects. All we can do now is wait."
"How long do we have to wait?" Joshua pressed his forehead and let out a deep sigh.
Matthew patted his shoulder but said nothing, his eyes fixed on Sophia sleeping on the hospital bed.
He only looked away when he met Benjamin's sharp gaze.
On the fourth day, Sophia's body finally changed.
Her skin all over began to burn hot, and a layer of redness appeared on her fair cheeks.
Sweat quickly formed on her forehead, with crystal beads of sweat rolling down from her temples and disappearing into her hair.
But Sophia lay there as if she had lost all sensation, completely unresponsive and motionless.
Benjamin started to panic.
He held Sophia and looked up helplessly. "Alaric, what's happening to Sophia?"
Alaric was also sweating with anxiety. He had never seen this kind of situation before and didn't know how to answer for a moment.
But Sophia's vital signs were still there, and all her bodily functions were normal.
At this moment, Matthew suddenly stood up from the sofa and walked toward the bed.
"Let me examine her."
Alaric immediately stepped back, making room for Matthew.
But Benjamin held Sophia motionless, not even looking at Matthew.
Matthew ignored his coldness and began examining Sophia.
"There are two forces clashing inside her body, but it should be nothing serious."
"Then why isn't she waking up?" Benjamin asked worriedly.
"Let's wait a bit longer. If she's still not awake by tomorrow morning, I'll send someone to find Robert." Matthew looked at Sophia with a serious expression.
Benjamin's heart jumped to his throat.
When Sophia woke up, she felt weak all over, dizzy and heavy-headed, unable to muster any strength.
She moved slightly and noticed her hand was being held tightly. She instinctively turned her head and saw Benjamin lying by the bedside with his eyes closed.
His tall frame was curled up uncomfortably by the bed, his brow furrowed.
Sophia wanted to sit up but was afraid of waking him.
"Sophia, you're awake?"
Alaric came back from outside, immediately overjoyed.
Hearing this, Matthew and Joshua immediately stood up from the sofa and walked to the bedside.
Benjamin had been sleeping lightly and woke up instantly at these words.
"Sophia, you're awake? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" Benjamin grabbed Sophia's shoulders and pulled her forcefully into his arms.
During the days Sophia was unconscious, he deeply felt a sense of helplessness.
He wished he could bear all of Sophia's suffering for her.
Sophia could clearly feel his body trembling.
He was worried about her.
"Don't worry, I'm fine now." Sophia weakly raised her hand and patted Benjamin's back.
Matthew examined Sophia and breathed a sigh of relief. "She's fine now. The remaining poison in her body has been completely cleared."
"That's good, that's good."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, their tense nerves gradually relaxing.
"That's great! Sophia's poison is finally cured!" Joshua clenched his fists excitedly, his eyes reddening.
They had been waiting for this moment for over ten years.
Now, they had finally reached it.
"Honey."
"I'm here, I've always been here."
"I'm hungry." Sophia embarrassedly rubbed her empty stomach.
Sophia had been asleep for so long, her stomach was already starving.
Benjamin reluctantly let go of Sophia, his palm gently stroking her cheek. "I'll order food right away."
"Alaric, did you record all the data from these past few days?" Sophia leaned against the headboard, looking at Alaric.
"I recorded it. Take a good look." Benjamin handed the recorded data to Sophia.
Sophia took it and looked through it, then nodded. "Alaric, thank you for helping me complete the final experimental data."
Curing Sophia's poison had always been Robert's greatest wish.
These things would be left for Robert's reference.
At this moment, an alarm suddenly sounded outside the door, and red lights flashed in the laboratory.
This sudden situation startled everyone.
Before Alaric knew what was happening, he heard Matthew say, "This is bad. Someone is attacking the laboratory's security system."
Sophia's eyes sharpened, and she squinted slightly.
She threw off the covers and forced herself out of bed.
Because she hadn't eaten for so long, her whole body felt weak, and she almost fell when getting out of bed.
Fortunately, Benjamin, who had just finished his phone call, came back and caught her in time.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you staying in bed?"
Benjamin bent down, picked up Sophia, and comforted her softly, "Don't be nervous. I've already told Eldon to help them."
Eldon was one of the top hackers in the country. The opponent shouldn't be able to stump him.
Sophia's face was fragile and pale. She leaned weakly in Benjamin's arms as he carried her back to bed.
"I'm fine. Why would someone suddenly attack the laboratory? This is my personal laboratory. I guess they're coming after me."
But Sophia couldn't figure out who would have such capability.
The firewall and security system she built were absolutely top-notch and wouldn't be breached so easily.
But who would do such a thing?
Benjamin reached out and gently smoothed Sophia's furrowed brow with his fingertips.
"Stop thinking about it. Rest a bit more. The food will be delivered soon."
"Okay."
About ten minutes later, the alarm was lifted, and Eldon stood outside the door carrying a food container.
Hearing the knock, Benjamin tucked in Sophia's covers and got up to open the door.
"Mr. White, the laboratory's security system wasn't breached, but the opponent is also very skilled. I couldn't trace their IP address."
