Chapter 248 Attempted Murder
Isabella froze, not expecting that Benjamin's favoritism and indulgence toward Sophia had reached such an extent.
She started to panic.
At first, Isabella had come here hoping to score some points with him.
But who knew Sophia would follow along too.
Like a ghost that won't go away!
Sophia was so shameless, always clinging to Benjamin, only knowing how to depend on men, with no sense of self at all.
Just wait—sooner or later, Benjamin would get tired of her!
"Don't touch me, I... Sophia, I need to talk to you!" Isabella screamed and struggled.
Sophia frowned and said to Isabella, "I can talk with you."
Hearing this, Benjamin immediately grabbed Sophia's arm, his lips pressed tight, his face full of disapproval.
He didn't want Sophia to be in the same place as this crazy woman—it was too dangerous.
Who knew if Isabella, backed into a corner, would do something to hurt Sophia again?
Sophia smiled to reassure him, "It's fine. With so many people watching, what can she do to me? Besides, this is your territory."
Benjamin had no choice but to give in. He instructed the bodyguards, "Stand guard right there. If anything happens to Sophia, I'm holding you responsible."
Benjamin looked down at Sophia, "Are you sure you'll be okay?"
Sophia nodded, "Don't worry. Go get your documents, and we'll go to the lab together afterward."
Benjamin shot Isabella a cold look, then reluctantly left.
After Benjamin left, Sophia and Isabella sat down on the sofa in the hall.
Without Benjamin present, Isabella couldn't be bothered to keep up the act and showed her true colors.
She spoke sarcastically, "You really have some skills, getting Benjamin wrapped around your finger like that."
"Thanks for the compliment." Sophia's lips curved slightly as she shot back, "But not as impressive as you—getting out of the police station even with solid evidence against you."
Bringing this up made Isabella even more smug. She lifted her chin proudly, "Of course, because I have a good uncle. What a shame—if you hadn't cut ties with the Brown family, you'd have such a powerful and influential uncle too."
As Isabella said this, her eyes stayed fixed on Sophia.
She wanted to see sadness and pain on Sophia's face.
However, not only did Sophia show no trace of sadness, she remained calm and composed throughout.
As if she didn't care about this at all.
This left Isabella feeling somewhat defeated.
Sophia found Isabella's provocation rather amusing.
Because Isabella didn't know that Tyrell had already come to see her.
And Sophia didn't care at all about the Smith family's money and power.
In terms of power, her senior brother was Matthew, her husband was Benjamin, and her mentor was a renowned doctor famous both domestically and internationally.
Any one of these connections would be enough to shock people.
She looked at Isabella calmly and asked directly, "What do you actually want? If there's nothing, I'm leaving."
Isabella dropped all pretense and sneered coldly, "Actually, I've never taken you seriously. In my eyes, you're nothing but an ant I could crush at any time."
"So?" Sophia raised an eyebrow.
Isabella clenched her fists, anger nearly bursting from her chest.
She growled through gritted teeth, "But I never imagined that a tiny insect like you would have a day to turn things around."
Looking at Sophia, her heart filled with jealous hatred.
Sophia used to be nothing but insignificant dust beneath her feet.
But when exactly did things change?
It seemed to be after she left the Brown Villa.
After she had Benjamin backing her up.
Sophia suddenly leaned in and whispered in Isabella's ear, "Want to know what it feels like to be crushed by an insect?"
A bolt of lightning struck Isabella, leaving her speechless for a moment.
When did Sophia become so assertive?
In her memory, Sophia was still that girl who kept her grievances to herself and endured even when hurt by her own family.
But now... she could actually see Benjamin's shadow in Sophia!
How was this possible!
Isabella forced herself to stay calm and laughed coldly, "Are you joking with me?"
Sophia didn't answer.
The next second, footsteps came from outside the door.
"Hello, which one of you is Isabella?"
Isabella looked up and saw several people in police uniforms walking in.
Because of her previous experience being held at the police station, Isabella instinctively felt afraid seeing them.
She reflexively pointed at Sophia beside her, "Her, she is!"
Sophia looked at her in surprise, then laughed out loud.
She lowered her head, took out her ID from her bag, and handed it to one of the officers. "How come I didn't know I changed my name?"
The officer looked at Sophia's ID, then at Sophia, and after confirming everything was correct, returned it to her.
"Isabella, please come with us." The officer's gaze quickly fell on Isabella.
Isabella's eyes widened in disbelief. "On what grounds are you taking me away?"
The officer said, "Here's the situation—after verification, all the evidence Sawyer provided is valid, so we need to detain you again. Also, the White Group's legal team is preparing to file charges. Please come with us."
Isabella looked panicked and shook her head frantically, "No, that's impossible! It can't be!"
She instinctively turned to look at Sophia and found her eyes calm, as if everything was under her control.
She instantly understood—Sophia had arranged all of this!
As the police approached, Isabella frantically tried to hide in the sofa, covering her face and screaming wildly.
"Isabella, please don't obstruct official business. Come with us," the officer repeated sternly.
Isabella struggled desperately, looking at Sophia with eyes like cold knives, wishing she could tear her to pieces.
"Sophia, you just wait! I'll never let you off!"
Sophia's lips curved slightly as she said, "Okay, we'll talk when you get out."
What Isabella had done would get her at least three or four years in prison.
The things Isabella did before had no concrete evidence, so she couldn't be convicted, but this time was different.
The surveillance footage was clear—Isabella had clearly attempted murder.
Plus, the White Group's legal team consisted of the country's top lawyers, so the chances of winning the case were high.
Hayden had always been a practical person. With a daughter like this who'd been in prison—and not even his biological daughter—how long could this so-called family affection last?
Actually, Sophia didn't want things to come to this, but she really didn't want to keep getting tangled up with Isabella anymore.
Time after time—Isabella might not be tired of it, but she certainly was.
