Chapter 199 Unable to Live Alone
Francis stared at Sophia for quite a while, then nodded to himself. "I think if Sophia can say these words, she can definitely follow through. I trust her."
"Francis, this is no joke!" Alfonso shot Francis several "please stop talking" looks.
Young people are just too confident in themselves. No, this should be called arrogance, right?
Even the top hospitals in the country wouldn't dare guarantee they could achieve this level of success.
Sophia had only studied medicine for a few years - how could she possibly do it?
It was impossible!
Alfonso still didn't believe it.
Francis naturally had his doubts about Sophia's words too, but he had witnessed Sophia's abilities, so he was willing to trust her.
"Why not let her try, Alfonso. Sophia is a student I taught. Since she's made this promise, she'll definitely be able to keep it."
Under Francis's insistence, Alfonso had no choice but to compromise.
Calista was so moved that tears streamed down her face as she knelt before Sophia. "Thank you, thank you..."
"You don't need to do this. It's what I should do."
Sophia's willingness to treat Xavier wasn't about forgiving her for causing trouble at the hospital.
She had made a mistake, and naturally the police would deliver fair punishment, but the patient was innocent.
As a doctor, Sophia couldn't just stand by and watch a patient suffer harm right in front of her.
Sophia had Xavier sent to a hospital room, prescribed medicine for him, and began treatment.
Soon, Xavier woke up.
Then Sophia went with Francis to the countryside to treat patients in remote mountain villages.
After several days, Sophia had lost a whole circle of weight, which broke Benjamin's heart.
Sophia was exhausted too. She slept for three whole days and nights, which worried Benjamin so much that he went knocking on Joshua's door in the middle of the night.
Joshua came out with messy hair, yawning while complaining like crazy. "In the middle of the night - are you sick! I was sleeping so well. Can't whatever it is wait until tomorrow?"
"Why hasn't Sophia woken up yet? She's been sleeping for days now." Benjamin's face was anxious, with dark circles under his eyes - clearly he hadn't slept well these past few days.
Joshua froze for a moment, his sleepiness instantly gone. "What? Still not awake? How can this be?"
"I don't know. The day we came back, she fell asleep in the car, and hasn't woken up since."
Benjamin was going crazy with worry. Sophia clearly had no physical abnormalities, her temperature was normal, even her breathing was steady, but no matter how he called her, she wouldn't wake up.
Joshua took a deep breath and tried to comfort him. "Don't panic yet. Let me come take a look with you."
He followed Benjamin into the hotel and saw Sophia sleeping, then checked her body.
Benjamin stood to the side, his brow tightly furrowed. "How is it? Is there any problem?"
"She's fine, she's just too tired. Just let her sleep. If you're really worried, call a doctor over..."
Before he could finish, Benjamin panicked. "Call a doctor? Didn't you just say she's fine?"
"Don't panic, I haven't finished talking!" Joshua rubbed his hair and added in a low voice, "Call a doctor over to give her an IV of glucose. Being unconscious for days without eating isn't good for the body."
"That's it?" Benjamin asked uncertainly.
Joshua nodded.
"That's it."
Joshua yawned, tucked the blanket around Sophia, and stood up. "Alright, you don't need to worry. It's nothing serious. Sophia's constitution has been different from ordinary people since she was young. You don't need to be so nervous."
Benjamin's thin lips pressed into a tight line, his deep eyes staring straight at the sleeping Sophia, full of worry.
Until Sophia woke up, Benjamin couldn't rest easy.
His heart felt like it had a heavy stone in it, pressing down so hard he could barely breathe.
After Joshua left, Benjamin sat by the bed, gently stroking Sophia's cheek.
She had been too busy these past few days, barely closing her eyes.
The conditions in the countryside were even worse.
And there were many people with evil intentions who wanted to touch Sophia inappropriately.
If he hadn't been there watching over her, he didn't dare imagine how much grievance Sophia would have suffered.
Just thinking about those people's disgusting, lustful gazes falling on Sophia made Benjamin so furious he wanted to kill someone.
A suffocating feeling seemed to be stuck in his chest that wouldn't dissipate.
He lowered his head, gently kissed Sophia's forehead, then stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to make a phone call.
"Chase, I need you to do something for me..."
When Sophia woke up, she found herself sleeping in the hotel bed, beneath her were soft sheets and blankets.
Completely different from the hard kang she had slept on in the countryside.
Only then did she realize she had really come back.
"Awake?"
A low, husky, magnetic voice came from above her head. Sophia's gaze slowly moved up and met Benjamin's long, deep eyes.
"Honey!"
Sophia opened her arms and threw herself into Benjamin's embrace.
Benjamin pulled her forcefully onto his lap, a slight smile slowly appearing at the corner of his mouth.
"You're finally willing to wake up. Do you know how long you've been sleeping?"
"How long?" Sophia asked curiously.
"Today is the fourth day." Benjamin lowered his head and kissed her soft lips, his tone carrying some lingering fear. "Sophia, don't scare me like this again. I can't take it."
When Sophia was unconscious, Benjamin really almost thought she would never wake up again.
Sophia was stunned.
She felt Benjamin's body trembling slightly, and the wetness on her neck.
He was crying?
Sophia slowly reached out her hand, wrapped it around Benjamin's waist, and gently patted his back. "Don't be afraid. I'm fine now."
Benjamin buried his face deep in Sophia's shoulder, gently nuzzling against her.
He had originally thought he had long since seen through life and death, become indifferent to everything.
But when he saw Sophia lying in bed, unable to wake up no matter how he called her, he started to panic.
He held her helplessly, calling her name over and over, kissing her forehead, cheeks, lips...
He wanted to use every method he could think of to wake her up.
He was afraid of losing her.
Feeling the warmth from Benjamin's body, a warm current flowed through Sophia's heart, and she couldn't help but smile.
"Benjamin."
"I'm here."
"I'll never leave you."
"I know." Benjamin chuckled softly, tightening his arms around Sophia. "Wherever you are, I'll be there."
If you live, I live.
If you die, I won't live alone either.
So we'll never be apart again.
Just then, there was suddenly a knock at the door.
Sophia patted Benjamin's back, signaling him to let her go.
Benjamin looked toward the door with displeasure, reluctantly releasing Sophia.
Who was so clueless to interrupt their intimate moment?
Sensing Benjamin's resentment, Sophia couldn't help but laugh. She raised her hand and patted his face, then called out to whoever was outside, "Come in."
