Chapter 198 I Can Heal
"Alfonso."
"Sophia, you're finally here. You need to check on this old man too. They keep saying he ended up like this because of medicine from our hospital."
Seeing Sophia appear, Alfonso instantly looked like he'd found his savior and rushed over to pull her closer.
Sophia nodded and said softly to comfort him, "Alfonso, don't panic. Let me take a look first."
But before she could get close, the old lady charged over. "Who said you could help him! What if you make things worse? Who's going to take responsibility? I'm telling you, if anything happens to my husband, none of you are leaving here today."
Sophia frowned, feeling something was off about the old lady's attitude.
Under normal circumstances, a patient's family should put the patient first.
When she offered to examine the old man, the old lady's eyes clearly showed a flash of panic, and she even blocked Sophia's way.
But Sophia knew she shouldn't jump to conclusions about others, so she pushed all those doubts to the back of her mind.
She softened her tone and said, "Please don't worry. Let me examine your husband first. If there's a problem with our hospital's medication, we're willing to take full responsibility."
"You know how to treat patients? You look so young, you don't look like a doctor. Get out of here and stop causing trouble!"
The old lady looked Sophia up and down, her eyes full of contempt.
All the doctors in this hospital wore white coats, and Sophia looked more like a college student who hadn't graduated yet. How could she be a doctor?
Besides, she wasn't really here to get treatment anyway.
Sophia's face darkened as she took out her phone from her pocket. "In that case, I have nothing more to say. If you insist on causing a scene at the hospital, I'll have to call the police."
When she heard the word "police," the old lady immediately panicked and rushed forward, trying to snatch the phone from Sophia's hand.
Sophia caught the approaching figure out of the corner of her eye and quickly stepped back two paces.
The old lady missed and looked unwilling to give up, staring at Sophia with anger in her eyes.
Benjamin walked in front of Sophia, blocking the old lady's fiery glare, his deep eyes ice cold.
"Chase, hold this person back."
Following Benjamin's order, Chase immediately waved his hand behind him, and several bodyguards in black clothes rushed out, surrounding the old lady.
The old lady had never seen anything like this before and was thoroughly frightened.
Sophia took the opportunity to walk over to the old man lying on the ground, crouched down, and checked his pulse.
"This gentleman has cardiovascular disease. He's just having an episode. It has nothing to do with our hospital's medication."
Hearing Sophia's conclusion, the doctors and nurses all breathed a sigh of relief.
If there really was a problem with the medication, their hospital would be in serious trouble.
Thank goodness...
Alfonso rushed up to the old lady and demanded coldly, "Tell us, why did you try to frame our hospital?"
The old lady's eyes also showed a flash of panic, but then she became self-righteous again. "I don't know what you're talking about. My husband got sick because of the medicine your hospital prescribed!"
Sophia thought for a moment, then instructed a nearby nurse, "Do we have this gentleman's medical records?"
The nurse immediately handed her a medical record book. "Yes, they did come to the hospital yesterday. The old man's name is Xavier Perez, and the old lady is Calista Day."
Sophia continued asking, "Xavier has serious cardiovascular disease. Has he come to our hospital for checkups before?"
The nurse immediately walked toward the front desk. "I'll check right away."
After a while, the nurse came running back. "I checked, and yes, there are examination records. Xavier was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease six months ago, and the doctor prescribed medication. But I didn't find any record of them picking up the medicine."
Under normal circumstances, after a doctor prescribes medication, the patient's family would go to the pharmacy to pick it up.
Some medications are only available at the hospital and aren't easy to buy at other pharmacies.
So getting medicine from the hospital is usually the first choice.
Sophia suddenly laughed softly. "This is interesting. He was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease six months ago. If he'd really been receiving treatment for the past six months, his condition should be under control."
Alfonso was a bit confused and asked, "Sophia, what do you mean?"
"I mean... Xavier's condition worsened because he didn't take medication for treatment. It has nothing to do with the medicine our hospital gave out."
Soon the police arrived and got the full story.
When Calista saw the police, she immediately panicked.
Under the police's skillful questioning, she quickly confessed everything.
It turned out that after being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease six months ago, Calista didn't have money to treat Xavier, and kept putting it off until things got out of control.
Yesterday, her husband's condition worsened.
She took all their savings and came to the hospital for treatment.
When she heard she could get free medicine, Calista went to pick it up first.
After getting the medicine, there was still a long line to wait in. Calista got impatient and decided to go to another hospital in town.
There, a doctor suddenly told her that if she helped him with something, he would treat Xavier for free.
She wavered and quickly made up her mind that no matter what, she had to take this gamble.
And that's how today's incident happened.
Calista cried bitterly, sobbing uncontrollably, kneeling in front of Alfonso and begging, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. Please forgive me..."
Alfonso looked away with difficulty, remaining silent.
He was the director of this hospital, carrying great responsibility. If he forgave her this time, what should he do when the same thing happened again?
Some precedents absolutely cannot be set.
"Considering you've admitted your mistake, if you trust me, I can treat your husband." Sophia suddenly spoke up.
Everyone turned their attention to Sophia, their eyes showing disbelief.
But cardiovascular disease—could Sophia really cure it?
Francis, who had been watching from the crowd for a while, suddenly stepped forward and reminded her, "Sophia, don't act impulsively. Cardiovascular disease isn't an ordinary illness."
Sophia laughed lightly and explained, "I only said I could help treat him, not that I could definitely cure him. His current physical condition is too poor. He probably can't hold on much longer. I can only guarantee that I'll enable him to get out of bed and walk around healthily, and live a normal life."
Hearing this, everyone gasped in shock.
What?
Guarantee he could get out of bed and walk healthily? And live a normal life?
Was she joking?
Alfonso nearly dropped his jaw and couldn't help coughing several times before reminding her, "Ms. Brown, this is no time for jokes!"
"I'm not joking. I'm serious." Sophia's gaze was calm, her tone serious and firm.
