Chapter 142 He Took All the Pain for You
Sophia gripped the syringe tightly, her vision starting to blur.
She was almost at the end of her rope.
In the past, even the slightest pain would make her cry out.
But now, she could only endure it.
Because she knew someone needed these medicines more than she did.
Sophia had never been a particularly kind or generous person.
If it were anyone else lying here instead of Benjamin, Sophia would have refused to treat them without hesitation.
Why should she care about other people's lives?
She could help countless people, but only if her own safety and life were guaranteed first.
But Benjamin was different.
He was the only person in this world who haunted her dreams.
And the only person Sophia wanted to see live a peaceful, safe, healthy life forever.
An hour passed quickly, and Chase brought over the prepared medicine.
"Mrs. White, the medicine is ready."
Chase walked over carefully, afraid of spilling even a drop from the bowl.
This medicine was so hard to come by—wasting even a single drop would be terrible.
This was Benjamin's life-saving medicine!
He didn't dare lose focus for a second.
"Why has Benjamin been unconscious for so long? Is something wrong with him?" Alaric asked worriedly.
Sophia sat by the bed and touched his forehead with her hand.
The next second, Benjamin, who had been unconscious on the bed, suddenly let out a muffled groan and slowly opened his eyes.
Benjamin's normally calm eyes were now completely bloodshot, filled with fine thread-like red veins.
Deep in his eyes was a mixture of unbearable pain and restraint.
"Benjamin, are you okay?" Alaric rushed forward, asking nervously.
"I'm... I'm fine." Benjamin frowned, reaching up to rub his heavy, aching chest.
"Honey, drink the medicine quickly."
Sophia scooped up a spoonful of medicine, blew on it gently, then brought it to Benjamin's lips.
Benjamin didn't ask what it was—he just opened his mouth and drank it down.
After finishing the bowl, his mouth was filled with the bitter taste of Chinese medicine. Benjamin frowned in distaste.
After he drank the medicine, Sophia pulled out a tissue and wiped the moisture from Benjamin's lips.
Then she picked up the syringe and said softly, "Honey, bear with it. This might hurt a little."
Benjamin's pale lips slowly curved into a smile. "This little bit of pain is nothing. Go ahead."
Sophia's lips curved slightly as she aimed at Benjamin's arm and inserted the needle.
A sudden sharp pain came from his arm. Benjamin's eyebrows twitched slightly, but his expression didn't change.
This pain was nothing compared to when the poison flared up.
Sophia pulled out the needle and asked worriedly, "Are there any changes happening inside your body?"
Benjamin looked down, thought carefully for a moment, and said, "There seems to be a warm current inside, flowing toward here."
Sophia looked in the direction Benjamin was pointing and nodded slowly. "These are all normal reactions, but we still need to keep watching. If you feel any discomfort, you must tell me right away."
"Okay." Benjamin lay back down on the bed with Sophia's help.
His eyes fixed on Sophia without blinking, asking worriedly, "Sophia, why are you wet?"
Sophia looked away and said vaguely, "It's nothing, I just accidentally fell in the water. Stop talking now and rest well."
Sophia tucked in the corners of Benjamin's blanket, then left the bedroom.
Benjamin, bearing tremendous pain and suffering, felt dizzy and couldn't muster any strength.
Soon he fell back into unconsciousness.
Before leaving, Sophia checked his body, and only after confirming he was okay did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The two medicines hadn't caused any adverse reactions in Benjamin's body, which meant the poison would soon be completely eliminated.
Sophia left the bedroom with difficulty.
She needed to rest now.
She needed to find a place with no one around and rest quietly.
So tired...
Exhaustion and pain intertwined, almost crushing Sophia's chest.
Alaric and Chase were both immersed in joy and didn't notice anything wrong with Sophia.
When Amelia heard the news that the poison in Benjamin's body would soon be eliminated, her face changed dramatically.
She rushed upstairs in her high heels.
But before she could enter Benjamin's bedroom, Sophia walked out.
"Sophia, the poison in Benjamin's body is cured?" Amelia asked anxiously.
"Yes." Sophia gave her a lazy glance and headed downstairs.
Meeting Sophia's cold eyes, Amelia suddenly felt a huge sense of panic.
She hurried forward and grabbed Sophia's arm, demanding coldly, "Explain yourself! Wasn't his poison very serious? How could it be eliminated so easily?"
Sophia stopped, her eyebrows furrowing slightly, a flash of disgust and mockery in her eyes.
"Mrs. Amelia White, your biological son is going to live a long, healthy life. Aren't you happy?"
Amelia froze, her expression stiffening. "I... of course I'm happy, it's just..."
"Are you happy? Because I can't tell!" Sophia laughed coldly, slowly moving closer to Amelia and saying coldly, "Before, I kept wondering why a mother would hate her own son so much. Now I finally understand."
Amelia's eyes flickered, her heart skipped a beat, and she held her breath nervously. "I don't know what you're talking about."
She lowered her eyes, not daring to look into Sophia's cold eyes.
Sophia scoffed and exposed her bluntly: "Because... you've been a coward and a selfish person all along."
Amelia flew into a rage, shouting coldly, "Sophia, I'm Benjamin's mother! Is this how you talk to your elders?"
"Elder? Do you deserve that title?" Sophia found it ridiculous. "You resent Benjamin, thinking that Magnus had affairs with other women back then because you were pregnant and couldn't satisfy him. But is that really true?"
Amelia hadn't heard the name "Magnus" from anyone else in a long time.
That name had once been the love of her life, her everything.
But later, she didn't know when it started, everything changed.
Their love was once envied by everyone, but later... they became a bitter couple.
Amelia opened her mouth, her mind suddenly going blank.
Sophia continued, "Amelia, you wish Benjamin would die, but do you know that if you hadn't been pregnant with him back then, the one who died would have been you! You wish he would die, but he's borne all the suffering for you!"
Sophia's words struck like a thunderbolt in Amelia's mind.
She stared in disbelief, grabbing Sophia's shoulders, her eyes red. "What did you say? Say that again? I don't believe it!"
Sophia's body was shaken violently by her and nearly fell to the ground.
Fortunately, Alaric rushed over in time and pulled Amelia away from Sophia.
