Chapter 143 Fainting
"Mom, what are you doing?"
Sophia accidentally bumped into the wall and had to lean against it for support to keep from falling.
She looked coldly at Amelia. "What? Can't handle it already? Even if Magnus really did cheat back then, you have no right to blame everything on Benjamin."
Amelia suddenly raised her eyes, which were filled with bloodshot veins.
She screamed hysterically, "You're lying! It's all because of him! If it weren't for him, Magnus and I wouldn't have grown apart! Benjamin has no right to live in this world!"
Alaric frowned and scolded coldly, "Mom, have you said enough? Sophia is right. If it weren't for Benjamin, you'd be dead already! The poison in your body - it was Benjamin as a fetus who absorbed it for you!"
Back then, if Benjamin hadn't absorbed part of the toxins, Amelia wouldn't have survived at all.
But Amelia acted like she'd gone mad, blaming everything on Benjamin, believing that his arrival had caused Magnus to cheat.
"Besides, Dad never cheated at all back then. You were just too sensitive," Alaric added.
In those days, Magnus and Amelia were deeply in love. Apart from his own wife, Magnus wouldn't even glance at other women.
Until later, when that woman Amelia called a "nightmare" appeared.
That woman had feelings for Magnus and was jealous of Amelia, so she secretly got close to her and brainwashed her.
Amelia had never doubted Magnus before, but under that woman's manipulation, she became increasingly sensitive.
She even suspected Magnus of cheating every single day.
She started doing extreme things, like hiring private detectives to follow Magnus and calling him dozens of times a day.
Once, when Magnus left his phone in the office during a meeting and didn't reply in time, Amelia rushed to the company like a madwoman to "catch him in the act."
She even threatened suicide, demanding that Magnus fire all female employees from the company.
Who could bear such possessive and obsessive love?
However, Magnus loved Amelia deeply, and to calm her emotions, he naturally did as she asked right away.
For a long time after that, you couldn't even see a female creature at the White Group.
But Amelia didn't calm down - instead, she got worse.
What really tore apart Amelia and Magnus's relationship was Benjamin.
That day, Magnus came home early from work and found his beloved Amelia viciously abusing Benjamin, who was still in his cradle.
She was taking all her resentment out on Benjamin.
Not even a year old, Benjamin's body was covered in bruises.
He even had numerous cigarette burn marks on his body.
Magnus was usually busy with work and had no time for such matters, but in his eyes, Amelia had always been a gentle and kind woman.
Seeing with his own eyes Amelia's twisted, hateful abuse of their biological son - you can imagine what a shock this was to Magnus.
It was at that moment he realized that what Amelia had been doing could no longer be described as just being unreasonable.
She had become a complete lunatic.
Hearing Alaric's account, Sophia felt waves of dull pain in her chest.
So Benjamin had suffered so much grievance and harm as a child.
He was so young then, couldn't even cry out in pain, yet was repeatedly abused and hurt by his own biological mother.
Alaric let go of Amelia, his voice ice-cold. "That night, Mom and Dad had a huge fight. And from that day on, Dad started having affairs with all kinds of women, living it up."
Amelia covered her face and slowly crouched down.
Tears streamed uncontrollably down her face, as if they would burn her.
Her heart felt like it was being slashed by a sharp blade - it hurt so much.
She shook her head desperately. "No, it's not like that! Yueming loved me! It's all because of Benjamin - it was after I gave birth to Benjamin that he stopped liking me!"
"Mom, even now, you're still deceiving yourself? Benjamin has suffered enough. Do you have to drive him to death to be satisfied?"
Alaric looked at Amelia with eyes full of disappointment.
"Alaric, how can you say that to your mother?" Amelia stared in disbelief, her eyes brimming with tears.
Alaric looked away, his eyes full of coldness. "Mom, all these years Grandpa was afraid of upsetting you, so he tolerated everything you did. But that doesn't mean everything you did was right."
Sophia agreed. "If it weren't for Benjamin, you'd be dead already. You're the last person in this world who has the right to hate him."
With that, Sophia turned and went downstairs without looking back.
Her chest felt like it was filled with burning rage. Sophia felt suffocated and uncomfortable.
The poison she had barely suppressed surged back like a tide. Sophia's vision went black and her body fell straight toward the ground.
Just as her body was about to hit the floor, she fell into a warm embrace.
"Sophia."
A deep, magnetic voice sounded above her head. Sophia's consciousness gradually blurred and she fell completely unconscious.
Amelia, who had just come down the stairs, saw someone break in and her expression changed dramatically.
She quickened her pace toward the man and asked coldly, "Who are you? Who let you in?"
Matthew stood tall and straight, his arms tightly holding Sophia, his deep eyes filled with bone-chilling coldness.
"We raised Sophia with love and care, and this is how you treat her?"
Matthew's icy gaze fell on Amelia, as if he wanted to tear her apart.
He had investigated everything that happened to Sophia after she came to the White Family and knew that Amelia treated Sophia poorly.
But he never imagined the White Family would be so ungrateful.
She gave them her life-saving medicine for Benjamin, and how did the White Family treat her?
She was soaking wet, yet the White Family didn't even give her time to change clothes.
Sophia's poison had flared up and no one even noticed.
Matthew felt like he was about to die of anger.
If it weren't for Sophia's condition being too critical right now, he definitely wouldn't let the White Family off so easily.
"I'm keeping track of this debt, and I'll settle it with you all another day." Matthew sneered and walked toward the door carrying Sophia.
But after just two steps, someone suddenly blocked his way.
Alaric rushed forward and demanded coldly, "Mr. Moore, Sophia is part of the White Family. You have no right to take her away."
"Leave her here so you can all watch her die from the poison?" Matthew sneered, his hawk-like eyes releasing a sharp gleam.
Alaric's body stiffened slightly. "Mr. Moore, what do you mean by that?"
"Alaric, you studied medicine too. Haven't you noticed that Sophia has the same toxins in her body as Benjamin?"
Alaric's gaze slowly moved down to the small, fragile figure in Matthew's arms.
