Chapter 140 Have You Had Enough
Amelia's eyes turned bloodshot as she glared at Sophia furiously: "Say that again if you dare!"
"I could say it ten more times and it'd be the same. I don't have time to waste on you right now. Please move aside."
Amelia stood on the steps, looking down at Sophia with contempt.
However, Sophia lifted her head, her presence not the least bit weaker than Amelia's.
Infuriated by these words, Amelia raised her arm and swung it fiercely toward Sophia.
Sophia's pupils suddenly contracted as she instinctively dodged to the side.
Her arm suddenly meeting empty air, Amelia's body stumbled and she fell heavily toward the bottom of the steps.
She instinctively stretched out her arms, trying to grab onto something, but in the end only caught a handful of air.
Her body fell straight toward the floor with a dull thud.
A sharp pain shot through her. Amelia cried out, her face scrunched up tightly.
"Sophia!" Amelia roared furiously.
Sophia gave her a cold glance, then turned and went upstairs, leaving her only a cold and determined back.
Magnolia hurried over and helped Amelia up from the floor. "Amelia, are you okay? Does it hurt? Do you need me to call a doctor?"
Amelia frowned and waved her hand, firmly refusing: "No need."
Wasn't this embarrassing enough already?
Magnolia looked awkward and said angrily: "Sophia is so rude! How could she treat you like this!"
"When has she ever been polite? Ever since she married into this family, there hasn't been a moment of peace." Amelia clenched her fists, gritting her teeth.
Magnolia's eyes flickered, a hint of smugness flashing in them. "Auntie, Sophia seems to be wearing a man's jacket, and I don't think I've ever seen that jacket before..."
"What?" Amelia was stunned, not reacting immediately.
She had been too angry earlier to notice what Sophia was wearing.
Now thinking carefully about it, there did seem to be an extra jacket on her.
That jacket probably wasn't Benjamin's.
Amelia frowned. "Whose could it be?"
Seeing her lost in thought, Magnolia's lips curved slightly. "Amelia, I remember Sophia only came to Silverlight City recently. Does she have any male friends here that we don't know about? For her to be wearing his jacket, their relationship must be quite close."
Reminded by Magnolia, Amelia suddenly realized the seriousness of this matter.
Right, Sophia had only been here a short time. How could she possibly know any men besides those from the White Family?
Could she have a man on the side?
At this moment, the photo Celestia had shown her that day suddenly flashed through Amelia's mind.
Could it be that the man in the photo was the man Sophia was fooling around with?
Amelia's heart skipped a beat as she ordered Magnolia: "Come on, let's go upstairs and see."
Upstairs.
Chase helped Benjamin into the master bedroom and placed him on the bed.
"Mrs. White, what should we do now? Why did Mr. White pass out? Why hasn't he woken up after so long?" Chase asked worriedly.
Sophia gave him a reassuring look and said hoarsely: "Don't worry, he's just sleeping. Chase, stay here and take good care of him. I'm going to make the medicine."
"Mrs. White." Chase called out to Sophia.
Sophia paused and turned her head in confusion. "What is it?"
"Mrs. White, shouldn't you change your clothes first?" Chase reminded her in a low voice.
Benjamin's illness was certainly important, but Sophia's health was equally important.
Sophia shook her head weakly. "No need. Benjamin's condition is urgent."
Sophia didn't have much time left.
She had to hurry and make the medicine to give to Benjamin.
Watching Sophia's thin figure, Chase shook his head helplessly, a trace of admiration flashing in his eyes.
"Mr. White, being able to marry such a good girl as Mrs. White is truly your good fortune," Chase sighed to himself.
He hoped he could also find a girl as excellent as Sophia who would treat him well in the future.
With this thought, Chase felt a bit more hopeful.
Sophia took out all the tools for making traditional Chinese medicine from her suitcase and arranged them one by one on the kitchen's marble countertop.
Her face was somewhat pale and weak. If you looked carefully, you could see her hands trembling slightly.
However, except for Sophia herself, no one knew what kind of pain she was enduring at this moment.
Amelia walked to the kitchen doorway, looking at Sophia with disgust and mockery in her eyes. "Sophia, who gave you permission to enter the kitchen? And what are those things in your hands? They're filthy. Throw them out right now."
"If I were you, I'd shut my mouth right now." Sophia sneered.
Amelia laughed mockingly. "This is the White Manor. I can say and do whatever I want. Do I need your permission?"
Sophia's movements paused as she suddenly turned to look at Amelia.
Her clear eyes narrowed slightly, releasing a dangerous and cold light.
Amelia felt uncomfortable under her gaze and nervously swallowed.
"Why... why are you looking at me like that? Did I say something wrong?"
Sophia smiled and shook her head. "You didn't say anything wrong. I was just thinking that you really don't deserve to be Benjamin's mother."
Amelia was stunned. "What do you mean by that?"
"Exactly what I said. All of Benjamin's suffering was caused by you, and to escape responsibility, you blamed everything on a child still in his cradle, even using it as an excuse to hate him for twenty-four years."
Sophia spoke word by word, her tone full of sarcasm.
Amelia's heart skipped a beat, her eyes flickering. "I don't know what you're talking about! Sophia, if you know what's good for you, take those filthy things and leave right now! Preston isn't here, and no one's protecting you anymore!"
However, Sophia had no intention of letting her off.
She put down the medicine in her hands and slowly approached Amelia.
Amelia didn't know what she was planning, but her feet instinctively took a step back.
"You... I'm warning you not to do anything rash!"
Sophia scoffed and pointed at the medicine on the marble countertop: "Those so-called filthy things you're talking about can save your son's life. I advise you not to disturb me again, or if anything happens to Benjamin, I'll make sure you go down with him."
Sophia found it hard to imagine what kind of life Benjamin had lived for the past twenty-four years.
Even harder to believe that a mother would speak harshly to her own son, even harboring hatred and resentment.
"That disaster Benjamin doesn't deserve to live in this world at all! And you, you promiscuous woman, staying in the White Family will only bring shame to us." Amelia snorted coldly and reached out to grab Sophia's arm, wanting to drag her out.
Sophia forcefully shook off Amelia's hand, her eyes growing even colder.
"Get away! If you dare delay me from treating Benjamin again, don't blame me for being rude to you."
With that, she gave Amelia a cold glance and returned to the kitchen to make the medicine.
Seeing her like this, Amelia was instantly furious.
She bit her teeth hard, a venomous look flashing in her eyes.
However, just as she was about to barge into the kitchen, a cold rebuke suddenly came from behind her.
"Mom, haven't you made enough of a scene?"
