Chapter 105 CHAPTER 105
Chapter 105 CHAPTER 105
Cassandra’s POV
“So fuck off!” she shouts at me angrily. She is breathless right now and I know she will fall for the temptation if I push her further. All I need to put her behind bars is not much. Her prints showing on my face after she slaps me, a bloody nose, bruised lips… any of the above and her life will be in my hands.
“So the boy is a bastard, right?” I continue to provoke her. “Maybe he isn’t entitled to the word ‘bastard’. Only kids with present fathers can be bastards. I hope he doesn’t grow up only to marry a whore like his mother. If he does, he will have a lot of kids, all of them bastards.”
Aurora doesn’t react to me anymore. She begins to take deep breaths and then she lies down on the bed, right beside her kid.
“When you are done ranting, please leave. Make sure you close the door,” she tells me, acting unconcerned.
That isn’t a good sign for me.
I walk to the part of the room that serves as her kitchen. I take one of the mugs and smash it into pieces. That should infuriate her.
“You evil woman! What have I done to you!” she screams at me. I smile, seeing that I have succeeded. I hope she takes one of the pieces and stabs me with it. Not to death, please. Just enough to make her end up behind bars.
But she doesn’t get up from her bed. She begins to make a call and I wonder who she would call. Andrew, maybe?
“Hello, is this the police?” she says over the phone. “A crazy woman is in my room destroying my things. The address? Number 116, the…”
“Hey, stop it!” I shout at her, trying to get the phone from her. She gets away from my grasp successfully and continues to make the call. I stare at her, filled with rage but there’s nothing I can do. I can’t afford to be the oppressor.
“The police are only ten minutes away. Today, you will be arrested for destruction of property,” she tells me confidently, her hands on her waist. Even if I’m arrested, I will probably be released in an hour. However, I do not take the risk. I run out of her room before the police will catch me in there.
She mocks me as I drive off and I feel so humiliated. Even though I’m ashamed, I still have to preserve myself.
But Aurora will pay for that, she definitely will.
As I drive right through the gate, I get out of the car and one of the on-duty drivers runs to me, takes my key, and drives the car to the garage. I walk into the main building and I can sense the house bubbling with activity. There are people repainting and decorating places in the house. I find my mother among those people and her face lights up the moment she sees me.
“Come here, baby,” she urges me. I hug her and it’s her same old scent. I didn’t like it when I was a kid. Growing up, that changed.
“What’s happening here?” I ask curiously, looking around for myself.
“Your dad’s coming home,” she tells me excitedly. “He has spent the past three months in Africa, you know that too. He wants to throw a banquet… no, that’s such an uncivilized word.”
“Feast,” I suggest.
“Even more uncivilized…” mom tells me. “It’s just dinner and drinks but it’s going to be more elaborate than that. A lot of people are coming; his co-workers, seniors and juniors in the industry, friends and families. Since we will use this floor, we ought to make an effort to redecorate.”
“When will dad arrive?” I ask.
“According to his flight, they should land by nine tomorrow morning. We will have a party here in the evening,” mom tells me. She turns to someone beside and gives the person instructions about a background color.
I sigh, “Mom!”
She turns to me sharply, “Is there a problem, baby?”
“Why am I just finding out now?” I ask firmly.
“About what?” she asks, pretending to not understand me.
“About dad’s arrival date and tomorrow’s party,” I answered.
“It’s not my fault,” mom replies carelessly. “If you talk to your dad more often, he would have told you about his travel plans. I wonder why you’ve always been cold with me.”
“I’ve never been cold with that! It’s just that…” I argue.
“Fine, if you say so,” she interrupts. “As for the party, I didn’t tell you since you wouldn’t contribute much even if you knew. Just make some time for tomorrow. You should get a new dress. There will be lots of people. As the host’s daughter, you must sit beside your dad and get a lot of attention.”
“I don’t need the attention of those people,” I tell her, my voice firm. “Also, I won’t be attending the party. Since I won’t be needed much, I doubt I will be missed either.”
“Cassandra!” Mom calls me sharply. “You will attend the party.”
“No, I will not,” I reply flatly. “You should know me very well, mom. What I say I will do, I will definitely do. You won’t be able to convince me to attend no matter what you do.”
I begin to walk away from her.
“Andrew is coming,” Mom throws in gently.
I turned back skeptically, “What did you just say?”
“You heard me right,” she tells me. “The party is for the family’s friends and families. Andrew will soon be a member of our family. Isn’t it only right that he attends?”
“Really? Will he?” I rushed to her excitedly.
“Of course. His parents will come as well,” Mom tells me confidently. “It’s been a while since both families met and I was thinking of getting the families to choose a wedding date now that both of you are of marriageable age. It’s too bad I won’t be able to do that since you won’t attend.”
I hold her hand and give her a big smile.
“You know I will attend, mom.”
