Chapter 104 CHAPTER 104

Chapter 104 CHAPTER 104
Aurora’s POV

The taxi drops me right in front of Jayden’s daycare and as I walk there, my heart rate increases. The day before yesterday, I had gone to the same place only to get ‘but you didn’t bring him in today’. As I walk closer, I try to smile to show I was relaxed even though I wasn’t. I can see Mrs. Chen right in front, bidding farewell to a kid and his father.

“You are here,” she says when I get to her. “Let me get Jayden for you.”

Oh thank God. I take a deep breath of relief. Soon, Mrs. Chen was out with Jayden who was chuckling. I hold him now, laughing. My boy is safe and sound, not kidnapped. Trauma has a way of staying with you.

As I walk away, a young lady joins me. She seems oddly familiar but I don’t know where I saw him from.

“Your kid goes to the daycare,” she comments. I stare at her for a moment before I reply. It is obvious that Jayden goes to the daycare, is she trying to start a conversation with me? I hold Jayden more possessively. Wasn’t it a woman who kidnapped him two days ago?

“Yeah, he does,” I manage to reply, looking around to see if I’m still safe.

“I have a baby boy. He is twenty months old and I was looking for a nursery for him. I think I might go with the daycare. How good are they?” she asks curiously.

“Well, my boy joined the daycare at twenty four months. They don’t have bad service and their prices are affordable. The owner, Mrs. Chen, is particularly good with kids. I think you can trust them,” I say casually.

“Really?” she asks excitedly.

I nod weakly, “But you could have talked to them yourself? Why did you come to me?”

“Isn’t that obvious? They can lie to me but a mother will never do that. Since you have recommended them, I will trust you and have my baby boy join the daycare. Who knows? My kid might end up being friends with Jayden,” she says excitedly.

I nod and then I stare at her. I have stopped walking by now.

She turns to me, “Is there a problem?”

I take a step back, ready to run away, “I didn’t tell you my kid’s name.”

“Ah, that,” she mutters with a smile. “I heard the owner of the daycare say it to you. Her name is Mrs. Chen, isn’t she? I was close by and I heard her say she would bring Jayden to you.”

“Oh,” I say in realization. “Erm… What's your child’s name?”

“Kevin,” she replies. Both of us begin to walk again. Somehow, we seemed to be headed the same way. When I get to my house, we stop. I did not invite her in, it seemed too early even though we had a nice conversation.

“Do you live around here?” I ask curiously.

“Yes,” she nods. “My place is a few houses from here.”

I nod, “You look oddly familiar by the way. Have we met before?”

“I don’t know,” she mutters. “I could have run into you since we lived in the same environment. What is your name?”

“Aurora,” I reply with a smile. “How about you?”

“Flora.”

I took a nap with Jayden that afternoon as I was exhausted with nothing better to do. I wake up to the sound of someone knocking on the door. Jayden has his eyes wide open and I can’t tell if he was also woken up by the knocking or he has been up since. You know the feeling of being exhausted even though you just woke up from sleep… that’s how I feel right now. There must be a scientific explanation for that condition.

I open the door and find none other than Cassandra outside. She is wearing what appears to be a trendy fur jacket, an extremely short skirt, leggings, and high heels. She is chewing gum and I think that already gave me insight on her mission here. Rather than let her in, I step outside to talk to her.

“Are you ashamed of your apartment?” she asks.

“Yes, I am,” I replied naturally. “Let’s talk out here.”

“No,” she shakes her head sideways. She enters my house without my consent and begins to say ‘ewww’ repeatedly upon gaining entry. As she walks in, she kicks away things that stand in her way and then her eyes fall on Jayden who stares at her back.

She turns to me and asks, “Are you a part time nanny?”

“No,” I reply. “You should leave now.”

I try to push her out but she resists strongly. She tries to hold in her laughter but she fails. She looks at me in a demeaning manner as she asks, “The kid is yours, isn’t he?”

“Yes, he is,” I replied firmly. “Is there a problem with that?”

“No, of course not,” she says, still laughing. “I just realized that I didn’t need to visit. I was going to tell you about acting sensibly while you work with Andrew but then, it’s not as if he will want to have a single mother.”

“A single mother, you say,” I say after her.

“Isn’t that the case?” she asks sarcastically. “This is a one room apartment and clothes are everywhere. I can see yours and the kid but… I can’t find even one shirt belonging to an adult male. Tell me the truth, Aurora, do you even know the father of the child?”

I raise my hand to slap her but I stop halfway. She is trying to trigger me but I have to keep my anger inside. I have a child to raise, I shouldn’t be arrested for assault.

“Go on!” she urges me, coming even nearer. “Slap me, you slut. How many men did you sleep with for you to not even know your kid’s father? Poor kid, he has a mother like you. Go ahead and slap me. Do it, Aurora.”

“Get out of my house!” I tell her, my voice firm.

“You call this slum a house?” she asks.

“So fuck off!” I scream at her angrily. By now, I have begun to breathe furiously. I am trying so hard to hold back but it’s only a matter of time before I go wild.
