Chapter 106 CHAPTER 106
Chapter 106 CHAPTER 106
Andrew’s POV
I do not drive home by myself. In the car, I have both my personal driver and Taylor. I hold an iPad, checking the general report sent to me by Taylor. That was personal information about the group of people who sued us. Five different organizations and two prominent people joined forces for that joint action.
“Did you find out the person behind them?” I ask calmly.
“It’s not a single person. It is…” Taylor says but I didn’t let him finish.
“I know it is a group of people!” I interrupt angrily. “My question is, do you know who they look up to in that group?”
“Ah, right,” Taylor mutters uneasily. “Upon request, I had it investigated and I think it’s this man.”
Taylor passes me his iPad and I look at the image before. Roberto Greene, I know him very well. He is Spanish-American and he owns a prominent law firm which is active in Europe, especially here in Paris. His clients are the big people in the society and he definitely has some clout when it comes to matters that matter.
“Are you certain?” I ask, skeptical about his findings. “I know Roberto has power but is it possible for him to lead that group? I can see more prominent organizations on the list.”
“I was surprised when I found out as well,” Taylor says. “However, my source is trusted. If he says Roberto is in control, that means he really is.”
I sigh.
“Whether Roberto is the leader or not, we are in a tough spot right now,” I mutter. “Roberto’s law firm is known for its efficiency. From the rumors, they have a lot of people in their pockets… prosecutors, judges, even politicians in high places.”
“The firm represents a lot of politicians. They will have his back,” Taylor contributes. “I… I think this will be harder than expected.”
I sigh one more time. I don’t know why dad always wants me to prove myself with cases so hard to solve. The fact that the accusation might be true puts me in a pickle. It’s hard already, it will be way harder if we defend a lie.
“Did you call Mr. Scott already? He is the one I put in charge of the app’s management,” I ask calmly.
“He has been out of contact for thirty-six hours, sir. He hasn’t showed up in the office and he isn’t picking up his phone either,” Taylor says calmly.
I shift in my seat uncomfortably.
“Do you mean you don’t know where he is right now?” I ask sharply.
“No, I do. He was confirmed to be inside his house but he hasn’t come out yet. I have men waiting outside secretly. Don’t worry, he won’t be able to escape,” Taylor tells me confidently. I smile at him. He has done a good job with that.
“We are here, sir,” the driver reports as he drives inside the mansion.
“Taylor, set up a personal meeting with Roberto Greene. I must meet with him and find out what’s going on in his head,” I ordered him. “Make it as fast and discreet as possible, okay?”
“I will try my best, boss. I always do,” Taylor mutters.
The driver brings the car to a halt. We are here.
I enter the living room only to find dad and mom there. Dad is seated on one edge of the sofa and mom lays down, her head resting comfortably on his thighs. From the way they are laughing, you can tell they are having the time of their lives. I greet them simply and turn to leave. The last thing I want is to ruin their romantic evening.
“Right, son,” dad clears his throat.
I turn to him and ask, “What is it?”
“Tomorrow, we will visit your fiancee’s home. You should get ready. You should put on your best behavior while we are there. Your future in-laws will be there,” dad tells me calmly.
“Why must I go there?” I ask out of confusion.
“They will have a welcome party for your future father-in-law tomorrow. He spent a few months in Africa volunteering and now that he is back, he is going to be celebrated as a hero,” Mom chirps in.
“Hero?” I ask, holding back my laughter. “Doctors go to the most remote parts of the world every time. It’s nothing special.”
“You’ve had life so easy so you don’t know how hard it is to survive in Africa. Even the bravest people crumble to diseases like malaria and…” Mom was saying passionately.
“Have you ever been to Africa, mom?” I ask her carefully. I watch her jaw drop and then she looks away. I continue talking, “You haven’t been there, mom. People might have died a lot there some years ago but things have changed. It’s more developed now.”
“You speak like you have experience…” Mom hisses.
“He does,” dad interrupts. “He followed me on my last trip to Morocco. Don’t you remember?”
“Ah!” Mom exclaims in realization. “I just remembered.”
I can bet my ass that mom doesn’t remember. She never remembers such details. Anyway, dad starts to talk about the things he saw there and how fun it was. I see this as my best chance to escape and I take it. I begin to walk away slowly, hoping they wouldn’t notice.
“You will go to the party, Andrew!” I hear dad say. “And be dressed properly. Don’t let it be like today’s meeting.”
I turned to him, frustrated, “Dad, I’m a busy man. Didn’t you give me a task today? Do you think I really have the time to go to a party? I should be focused on only work right now.”
“How many times must I tell you?” he snaps at me. “A man must balance love and family. Stop whining, boy, you’ll attend that party. Just come, greet your future in-laws, interact with a few people and disappear. I’m not telling you to stay from the beginning to the end.”
I guess I will end up going.
