Chapter 79 Lost the Trail

Chapter 79 Lost the Trail

Lily fell silent.

Thinking back to the chase just now, that car's driving route was really strange—speeding up and slowing down, turning and going straight—nothing like how a normal person would drive.

"Could it be intentional? Did he realize we were following him, so he deliberately led us here and then ditched us?"

"Very likely." Olivia glanced at the pitch-black surroundings. "But that's not the point anymore. The key question now is, where are we? This place is so desolate..."

Lily also noticed their surroundings.

It really was remote—nothing but wasteland and sparse woods all around, barely any streetlights, only their headlights for illumination.

"Let's use GPS to find our way back," she said.

Olivia pulled out her phone, only to find the signal was very weak. "Oh no, the signal's terrible here. The GPS won't load..."

Lily took out her phone too—sure enough, only one bar of signal, and the map page just kept spinning.

The two looked at each other.

Now they were really in trouble...

Just then, the sound of a car engine suddenly came from not far away.

Both of them immediately tensed up.

"A car's coming!" Olivia said.

"Quick, turn off the lights!" Lily said.

Olivia hurriedly turned off the headlights, and the two hid in the darkness, nervously watching the car gradually approaching in the distance.

The headlights got closer and closer, finally stopping beside them.

The window rolled down, revealing a familiar face.

"What are two beautiful ladies doing out here in the middle of nowhere at night? Need help?"

"Andrew?" Lily and Olivia exclaimed in unison.

"That's me."

Andrew elegantly opened his car door and got out, walking over to their car. "Looks like you've run into trouble?"

"What are you doing here?" Olivia asked suspiciously.

Andrew said casually, "I just happened to be passing by. Saw a car stopped here and got curious. Didn't expect it to be you two."

Lily felt this was too much of a coincidence, but right now they really did need help.

"We got lost. The phone signal is bad, can't use GPS."

"I see. Then follow me, I'll lead you out."

"Really? That's great!" Olivia breathed a sigh of relief.

Andrew looked at Lily, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes. "Lily, coming to a place like this late at night—aren't you worried Samuel will be concerned? Or are you two doing something interesting behind Samuel's back?"

Lily's face instantly turned red. "I was just..."

"Stargazing?" Andrew said with a smile.

"Yes! We were just stargazing!" Olivia jumped in to answer.

This Andrew was on Samuel's side—they couldn't let Andrew discover their real purpose. Otherwise, if Samuel became guarded, their mission would be pointless.

"Let's go, I'll take you back. Otherwise, Samuel will start worrying."

Lily said nothing, pulling Olivia back into the car. "Olivia, follow his car."

"Okay."

The two cars drove one after the other toward the city center.

Meanwhile, at a café in the city.

David sat by the window, holding a coffee cup and looking out at the night view.

Willie stood beside him, saying respectfully, "Mr. David Jones, Mr. Anderson has found Mrs. Lily Jones and the others. He's taking them back to the city now."

"Good. Tell Andrew to be careful and not let them discover anything."

"Yes." Willie responded, then couldn't help asking, "Mr. David Jones, why are you doing this? Wouldn't it be better to just tell Mrs. Lily Jones the truth directly?"

David put down his coffee cup, his expression complex. "Now isn't the time yet."

"But Mrs. Jones has already started to suspect. Rather than letting her investigate on her own, why not come clean yourself..."

"I know." David interrupted him. "But if I reveal my identity now, it will bring her a lot of trouble. Besides, I want to see how far she can actually investigate."

Willie detected the playfulness in David's words and couldn't help but laugh. "Mr. David Jones, you're teasing Mrs. Lily Jones, aren't you?"

The corner of David's mouth lifted in a smile. "This is called... a little fun to enhance the marital relationship."

Willie was speechless.

Well, he could see it now—David was getting addicted to this game.

"By the way, have Andrew clean up tonight's events thoroughly, don't leave any traces. Also, I'll be more careful these next few days. You be careful too, don't let her track us again."

"Understood," Willie responded.

David looked out the window, the image of Lily fully equipped and tracking him floating through his mind, and he couldn't help but laugh out loud.

His wife was really... both adorable and stubborn.

However... it was time to make her back down.

After all, he didn't really want her to discover the truth.

In the car, Lily and Olivia followed Andrew's car toward the city.

The whole way, Lily kept thinking about tonight's encounter.

Samuel had clearly been playing with her on purpose, and then Andrew just happened to show up—it was all too coincidental.

"Lily, do you think Samuel arranged Andrew to pick us up?" Olivia was thinking about the same question.

"Probably. Otherwise, how do you explain him happening to appear in such a remote place?"

"Then Samuel is really..." Olivia didn't know what to say. "Although it is kind of annoying, I have to say, he does care about you. At least he didn't let us actually get stranded in the middle of nowhere."

Lily didn't speak, but a complex emotion welled up in her heart.

Just then, she suddenly spotted a familiar license plate number not far ahead.

"Olivia, look at that black sedan up ahead!"

Olivia followed her gaze. "What about it?"

"That's my dad's car! I remember the license plate number clearly, absolutely can't be wrong!"

Olivia was also surprised. "Your dad? What's he doing here this late at night? Don't tell me he's out with Elodie?"

"Who knows, let's follow and see. If there's drama, I don't want to miss any of the Martin family's jokes."

"My thoughts exactly!"

Olivia immediately changed direction and followed Zane's car.

"Lily, what do you think your dad is doing here this late at night?" Olivia asked quietly.

"No idea." Lily stared intently at the car ahead, a vague sense of foreboding in her heart.

This direction seemed to lead toward an upscale villa district.

But the Martin family didn't have any property here.

Before long, Zane's car entered an upscale villa district. After showing a pass at the entrance, it went in smoothly. Olivia happened to have property here, too, so the two of them got in easily.

Lily quickly found Zane's car, parked in front of a villa.

"Let's get out and take a look."

"Isn't that too risky? What if we get caught?" Olivia was a bit worried.

"We won't, we'll be careful," Lily said, already pushing open the car door and getting out.

Olivia followed cheerfully.
