Chapter 66 Can You Forgive Me
After Lily sent the message, she didn't get a reply from Dennis.
She stared at their chat window, feeling like something had changed, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
She had gotten used to having Dennis around.
When she was reborn, at her most helpless and painful moment.
It was Dennis who appeared by her side, holding up an umbrella to shield her from the storm outside.
He was both a mentor and a friend, and her feelings for him had changed.
These past few days without him, Lily found herself feeling irritable and wanting to see him.
Feeling her emotions were off, she decided to go downstairs to buy some things to distract herself.
But just as she bought some snacks, a car honked at her twice from the side of the road.
Lily turned and saw Michael.
Her expression turned cold. "Are you spying on me?"
"Lily, this is New York City. Finding you was only a matter of time."
Michael's gaze was complicated. He had to admit, finding Lily had taken some effort.
That school nurse named Dennis wasn't simple.
But so far, he hadn't found anything.
Lily's eyes were wary. "What do you want to say?"
"Lily, I mean no harm. The results are coming out soon, and I'm just concerned about you. After all, picking a college is an important decision."
Lily remembered in her past life how Michael had agreed with Austin's suggestion, sending her and Sophie to a mediocre school.
She sneered, "No need, I can handle it myself."
"Lily, don't be stubborn at a crucial moment. Don't gamble with your future."
Michael blocked her path, speaking earnestly, "I even got someone to write recommendation letters for you and Sophie..."
"Enough, aren't you annoying?"
Lily couldn't take it anymore. "Michael, do you ever listen to what I say? Was that hard to understand? I hate it when you pretend to care about me, just to manipulate me!"
Michael looked hurt, his face pale. "I-I didn't mean it like that."
"Good, then stay away from me!"
Lily turned to leave, but then heard a thud behind her.
Michael had collapsed on the ground.
Lily hesitated, unsure whether to go back.
The driver helped Michael up and shouted to Lily. "Mr. Roberts has had stomach issues for a long time. He refuses to go to the hospital. I'm worried if this continues, it'll get serious."
Lily noticed the blood at the corner of Michael's mouth.
Annoyed, she walked over and helped the driver get Michael into the car.
As she was about to leave, Michael grabbed her hand tightly, weakly saying, "Lily, don't go. I really was wrong."
Lily's feelings were complicated: "You should go to the hospital."
"Lily, can you stay with me?"
Michael still wouldn't let go, his eyes pleading.
The driver urged, "Ms. Roberts, please go with Mr. Roberts to the hospital. His condition can't be delayed any longer."
Lily was finally pushed into the car by the driver.
She sat beside Michael, her face stern and silent.
Michael smiled faintly. "Lily, it's been a long time since you've talked to me like this."
Lily replied coldly, "Isn't Sophie always with you? You don't need me."
It had always been this way.
"It's not the same. You and Sophie are different. We're siblings. You're the most important to me."
Michael coughed up blood.
Lily couldn't stand to see Michael in pain, so she handed him a tissue.
Michael looked relieved. "I knew there was still a place for me in your heart."
Lily turned to look out the window, feeling the irony of it all.
She had once desperately sought her brothers' attention, wanting to be seen and recognized.
She had given everything in her past life and received nothing.
In this life, she didn't care anymore, yet Michael was the one clinging to her.
Humans were just like that, always wanting what they couldn't have.
When they arrived at the hospital, Michael was taken in for tests.
Lily intended to leave, but the doctor stopped her. "Are you a family member? You should persuade Mr. Roberts to keep taking his medication. His stomach issues could turn into cancer if untreated."
Lily's expression was cold. "If he doesn't care about his own health, who else can make decisions for him?"
"Lily, how can you say that? Michael's health is like this because of us!"
Austin and Sophie rushed over.
Lily threw the medical report at Austin. "Moral blackmail again? If you're so caring, how come you didn't know Michael's condition was this bad? How are you being with him every day but not noticing his worsening health?"
Austin was speechless. "That's because I didn't pay attention."
"Instead of making excuses, why don't you persuade Michael to see a doctor and take his medication?"
After her rant, Lily left the hospital.
Austin was furious. "Lily is getting more and more arrogant!"
Sophie was also frustrated. "Austin, Lily is a star on Crayfish Live now. She's great at gaming, so she has confidence."
"No matter how confident she is, she's still part of the Roberts family. Don't worry, I have a contract she signed. If she pushes me too far, I'll make sure she never succeeds."
Sophie's eyes lit up. "What contract?"
So there was something they could use against Lily?
"Austin, where's Lily?"
Michael came out after the tests but didn't see Lily, looking disappointed.
"Michael, that ungrateful brat just left. Why do you care?"
Sophie approached. "Michael, are you okay? I was so worried. Why didn't you tell us your stomach issues were getting worse?"
"It's nothing serious."
Michael couldn't hide his disappointment. He thought Lily would stay, but she left.
Sophie saw Michael's disappointment and felt a sense of crisis.
Despite all her efforts recently, Michael still cared a lot about Lily.
At that moment, Michael's secretary hurried over. "Mr. Roberts, the partner, wants to terminate the collaboration. They say our software's firewall has issues."
Sophie said, "Then get the tech team to fix it."
"They haven't been able to, which is why the partner wants to terminate."
Michael smiled bitterly. "Lily was responsible for that part of the firewall."
He couldn't bring himself to ask Lily, so he had been delaying it.
Austin snorted. "I don't believe we can't solve this without Lily. Michael, leave it to me."
Sophie felt jealous and said, "Michael, if only I could help. I'd definitely solve it for you."
Michael sighed. "I only realized how important Lily was after she left."
Sophie could barely keep her fake smile.
What about her?
