Chapter 50 Tearing Off the Mask
Lily stared intently at Austin, her curiosity piqued.
She really wanted to know the truth, too.
Austin noticed the mocking look on Lily's face and suddenly had an inkling of what was going on.
He'd already suspected it, given Lily's high gaming skills.
The girl who could pull off a twelve-hit combo was no longer the Lily who used to follow him around.
She had grown up and become even more skilled than him.
Sophie watched from the sidelines, feeling a surge of jealousy.
She stepped forward, feigning concern. "Lily, if you really are SweetLemon, that would be incredible!"
Lily raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really?"
"Yeah, you've become so amazing. Our Titan Team would definitely win the championship in the finals. Right, Austin?"
Austin's expression turned awkward. Of course, he wanted Lily back on the team!
He turned his head and coughed. "I don't really care."
Lily smirked. "I never said I would join the finals!"
Austin's face froze. "What do you mean?"
"Austin, did you forget what you said? You claimed someone like me is replaceable, and you've already found excellent teammates. I don't matter at all."
Lily reminded Austin of what he had said at the Roberts Mansion.
She wasn't the same Lily anymore.
She had been hurt and insulted, and a simple sentence wouldn't bring her back!
No way!
Lily left the school decisively.
Austin watched her leave, remembering the words he had said that day.
Back then, he thought he could really recruit SweetLemon. So he had spoken that way.
But now, Austin realized that the account might just be Lily's.
The thing he least wanted to see had happened.
Sophie intentionally said, "Austin, do you think Lily could be SweetLemon? After all, the voice is identical, and she didn't deny it."
Austin gritted his teeth. "I'm not sure."
"But Austin, even though this is good news, it means Lily knew all along but didn't tell you. She was just watching you make a fool of yourself!"
Sophie emphasized the word "fool."
Austin's expression darkened. "But I don't think it's her! Based on what I know about her, if it were really her, she would definitely admit it and show off."
But Lily didn't admit it directly, so it wasn't her!
Austin could only comfort himself like this.
Sophie secretly breathed a sigh of relief. "I think so too."
Lily hadn't admitted it directly, which meant she was guilty. SweetLemon was definitely not her!
After getting into a cab, Lily thought for a moment and decided to go to the hospital.
Although Austin hadn't told her which hospital, she knew where Michael would be treated.
At the hospital, she quickly found out Michael's room number.
She got off the elevator, hesitating whether to go in.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Barry spoke in surprise. "Ms. Roberts, you finally came!"
Lily glanced into the room, but Michael wasn't there.
Barry coldly said, "Mr. Michael Roberts went for treatment. The doctor said he was too stressed and needed to recuperate. Follow me."
Lily hesitated for a moment but followed Barry.
"Miss Scott has been here at the hospital, bringing meals. You didn't even ask. Isn't it natural for Mr. Michael Roberts to treat Miss Scott well?"
Lily lowered her eyes, feeling a wave of self-mockery. "As long as he's okay," She muttered.
She turned and left the hospital, wondering why she had even come. Maybe she shouldn't have.
Barry was right. With Sophie there, she wasn't needed.
In her past life, hadn't Michael liked Sophie's cooking?
Not long after Lily left, Michael returned to his room after his check-up.
Seeing the flowers in the trash can, Michael asked, "Who was here?"
Barry replied calmly, "Just some random person. I sent them away so they wouldn't disturb your rest."
Sophie walked in with a thermos. "Michael, try the medicinal soup I made. Is it better than before?"
Michael took a sip. "Yeah, it's much better. Thanks, Sophie."
But he couldn't help thinking about the medicinal porridge Lily used to make.
He had always enjoyed Lily's care.
Unfortunately, he had taken it for granted and overlooked Lily's efforts!
He regretted all the hurtful things he had done to Lily.
Sophie, seeing Michael's expression, felt a bit aggrieved. "Michael, I need to tell you something. Lily has been streaming lately."
"Is she streaming to make money?" Michael asked, feeling uncomfortable.
Lily should have been well-off, not needing any part-time jobs, let alone streaming for money.
Streaming was a messy business.
Sophie nodded. "Yeah, but she's streaming on the Crayfish platform, which is a competitor to Austin's GreenFruit. If Austin finds out, he'll be furious."
Michael's expression turned cold. "If he's angry, it's his own fault! He drove Lily away!"
Sophie was surprised by Michael's attitude.
She thought Michael would side with Austin, condemn Lily for going to a rival platform, and even hassle Lily to quit streaming!
That was the outcome she wanted.
But Michael didn't follow her script.
Sophie didn't want Lily to surpass her. She continued, "Michael, even though Lily has the right to choose her platform, isn't she embarrassing the Roberts family by streaming on Crayfish? If we could get her to quit..."
Michael interrupted, "Lily can stream wherever she wants. It's her choice."
"But..."
Seeing Michael's expression, Sophie didn't continue. She didn't want to risk his displeasure.
She felt uneasy. Michael had changed.
She had worked so hard to secure her place in Michael's heart.
But Lily, without doing anything, could still get Michael's forgiveness.
After what Austin said today, Sophie was hit with a harsh reality.
She was not a real Roberts!
She needed to look out for herself.
Lily returned to her apartment.
The servant had prepared a single meal for her.
Clearly, Dennis and Eric wouldn't be coming home for dinner.
After eating, she logged into her game account to repair her gear.
She had a PK match later that night.
But as soon as she logged in, she received a message.
It was from Austin.
[Who are you really?]
Lily glanced at it, knowing it wouldn't be long before the truth came out. But she didn't plan to explain.
Ignoring the message, she went to farm a dungeon solo.
Because of her streaming, many people knew her ID.
She received numerous invites to join teams.
Lily randomly picked one.
As she joined, she noticed a familiar ID.
It was Austin!
Soon, Austin's voice came through the team channel. "You have time to farm dungeons but not to reply to my messages?"
His tone was accusatory.
