Baby time
Draven
Nothing seemed to have changed over the day time hours. Shannon had gotten to the lab by night fall, which was great but they didn't have all the equipment they needed. She had tol us that we had to keep blood going all the time by this point. Most vampires didn't carry a child to the full four months, that they are almost always premature. The fact that Natalia was still pregnant wasn't a bad sign but not good either. Taking the time to check her over she sighed, the baby was still moving and the heart rate was within the norms. Trouble was Natalia's heart rate was really low for the normal and she didn't look good at all. Dark circles around her eyes, her skin was yellowing and almost see thru in some areas. Since they had gotten to the lab she hadn't woken back up.
"What do you need to help her?" I asked as we walked out of the room.
"In truth an ultra sound machine would be great. Trouble is she is so far along now that it won't really matter much. The baby should be on the move by now." Shannon looked from Draven then to Elysium.
"I'm not sure if we can get a machine fast. Unless we steal one." Elysium was partly joking but she knew she would if it was called for.
"We have one on order for the clinic. Trouble is it won't be here for a while. the building is getting there." I speak to them in almost a whisper, fear lacing my words.
"Trying to induce her would be the best bet. Trouble is if she is alright going into labor on her own we wouldn't want to mess with that. Did she say if her water broke?" Shannon looked toward me when she spoke.
"Not that I know of." I couldn't recall her saying that it had. "When she said to come here we came right away. Natalia has been like you see her for most of the last two weeks. On and off in a coma like sleep"
"That is actually pretty normal for vamp moms." Shannon sighed thinking it over. "I have a feeling she is in labor, but it isn't active just yet."
"What do we do then?" Elysium asked wanting to be sure they where ready.
"Wait, it is all we can do. Make sure that you have blood on the ready. Even the synthetic stuff would work. She isn't going to be drinking it, it will go right into her system." Shannon turned to go back to Natalia. "I would call any family you want here. Sometimes the mom doesn't make it."
That sent a jolt of fear thru me. No one had told me that I might lose Natalia if she got pregnant. Fear was running thru my mind as I turned to look at Elysium. She looked just as worried when a bell ran in the lab. I knew that was the front door to the house. Grabbing one of the nurses I asked for them to go and let my mother in and bring her down here. The hurse ran off heading toward the elevators.
"Did you know?" I asked looking into her eyes to see the truth.
"No, I knew there were risk. Not that she might die." Elysium excused herself to go and make sure they had blood to give to Natalia if needed.
I found a chair falling into it as I looked down the hall. The rooms light was off, but I knew she was in there. Foot steps sounded a few moments later as my mother entere the room she looked down at me with worry in her eyes.
"I came as fast as I could. Your father is up stairs putting the stuff in the room. How is she?" She asked looking me over seeing the worry on my face.
"Not good." I told her as I stood taking her toward the room where Natalia was laying.
"My god!" She whispered as she looked down at Natalia. "Why didn't you tell me it was this bad?"
"I didn't know this wasn't right, there is nothing about how to deal with a vampire pregnancy. I tried to get you to come over sooner." I almost yelled at her when Natalia groaned in pain.
Shannon ran into the room to check on her. My mother looked Shannon over then smiled brightly. Did they know one another?
"Well you have an expert right there." My mother waved a hand toward Shannon.
"What? You didn't tell me that you knew there was some one in the states that could help us." I screamed at my mother seeing her small fall.
"I did apply for the job." Shannon told him with a half glare.
"Yes and we couldn't confrim any of the information. If you had just told us that you had been around a while or that you had helped others then you would have been hired monthes ago." I screamed at her my anger flaring in my eyes.
At that moment Natalia let out a blood curddling scream. Water gushed onto the bed, blood leaking with it. Shannon turned away from me to go to Natalia. I grabbed Natalia hand but she didn't seem to notice. Elysium came running in with two more bags of blood. Switching out the empty one and hanging the other on the pole, knowing that it would be needed very soon. I had been alive a long time and I can say that I had never seen that much blood come out of a vampire and they live. I looked from Shannon to my mother then to Elysium. They all looked worried but didn't say a thing.
"She is in active labor. Unlike humans, it doesn't take as long for the baby to be born." Shannon grabbed a gown, gloves and then asked Elysium to grab a bed or something to put the baby in. "The only trouble we are going to have is getting her to push."
Natalia groaned again as her belly moved, it was like it had been shocked. Contraction is what I figured, but I held her hand trying to get her to hear me. It would seem that her body knew what to do, but her mind was out of it. Elysium brought in a hospital baby crib. It was one of the few things we had already gotten. The warmer was on order, but wouldn't get here in time for the baby. Shannon put Natalia's legs in a bent postion to try and see how far along she was. With a nod she looked toward me and smiled.
"Baby is coming fast." Shannon told me as I held Natalia's hand.
Less then twenty minutes later our little boy was born, he had a head full of red hair with pale skin. Shannon handed him over to Elyisum as she checked on Natalia. A confused looked showed on her face for a moment. Then she looked to me not saying anything just shocked.
"What's wrong?" I asked scared that she would bleed to death.
